  1. Here are some of my opinions: Subdivision A: - 7th Avenue Local: · I personally wouldn't want to be stuck working this line during the AM or PM rush; too chaotic. - 7th Avenue Express: · Too much cab-time for my liking; especially those overnight trips from Flatbush to Wakefield and vice versa. Also, don't forget those G.O.'s that'll weigh you down even further. To me, it's one of the worst assignments that I can think of. - 7th Avenue Express: · A sweet gig to work during the day and overnights isn't too shabby either as it remains an express line and only operates as a shuttle. - Lexington Avenue Express: · Working this line during the day might be OK, but Jerome Avenue tends to drag along like the does on Westchester Avenue or White Plains Road. Not only that, but all it takes is something minor to transpire and Jerome Avenue takes the hit. That stint in The Bronx is infamous for that. Just like the , an overnight pick on the results in suffering. I view the line as marginally better than the overnight , but only because Lexington Avenue saves it some runtime. - Lexington Avenue Express: · A pick that includes an express trip is probably one of the best jobs in my opinion. (Not including those trips that terminate at Nereid Avenue.) Midnights, the shuttle between E. 180th Street and Dyre Avenue isn't that bad. It's less than 15 minutes if I recall correctly. - Lexington Avenue Local · See my reasoning for not wanting to work the line. - Flushing Local/Express · Due to this line's length, expect to be thrown back and forth several times everyday. Unless I'm able to pick a job with satisfactory recovery time in between trips, I wouldn't choose working the if I were able to avoid it. - 42nd Street Shuttle · I wouldn't do this to myself if I had a choice. 2 stations. 8 hours. No, thank you. In addition to these, how do you guys feel about terminal switching jobs? Yard jobs?
  2. The employment section of this online transit forum is dedicated to the civil service exam process, administrative/medical follow-up, and any other related pre-appointment questions that prospects may have. This topic addresses T/O's and C/R's with seniority sufficient enough to pick jobs with a steady schedule.
  3. All this speculation is moot as there aren't going to be any R211s for the foreseeable future. The COVID-19 pandemic has effectively put all planned projects and deliveries on indefinite hold.
  4. What are some of the best and worst jobs that a T/O or C/R can pick in Subdivisions A and B?
  5. Reread what I've emboldened aside the asterisks and do some long, hard thinking. I couldn't bare to read more.
  6. What are some of your thoughts in fixing that mess? Also, I can't picture an Addisleigh Park resident needing anything north of Union Turnpike. Demographics and ridership patterns just don't support that.
  7. I'm not sure if this has been brought up yet, but the proposed Q65 is possibly one of the worst ideas I've ever seen. The real Q65 isn't without its weaknesses, but the whole "straighten it out" and "convert to LTD" philosophy as some magical potion to solving all problems has bothered me the most about this whole "draft" crap. Neutering the Q65 in Jamaica by having it serve just one measly station along the for it's entirety, severing it's access to Flushing, and abandoning College Point, for WHAT? Just to have the whole thing die by serving residential neighborhoods in Queens that are not dependent on public transportation at all which have close to 0 potential in promoting ridership growth??? F*** out of here with that nonsense.
  8. Negative. The 's R68A's sometimes appear on the from time to time. It's not unheard of.
  9. Here's some advice to you: Know who you're talking to before lecturing them next time.
  10. Most of these failures are isolated incidents and don't reflect the reliability of the R179s as a whole. Careless errors in assembly come to light when the cars are put under stress.
  11. "Failure to comply." That phrase perfectly describes what I've been witnessing lately. I go outside only when absolutely necessary, and when I do, I'm frankly annoyed by the number of complacent individuals who walk about without any form of disease control gear. No masks. No gloves. NOTHING. You already know this, but I'm going to say it anyway. There are many other states experiencing a spike in new infections due to premature reopenings, protest gatherings and riots that toss the whole social distancing rule out the window, and as you said it, "failure to comply" by choosing not to wear a mask and gloves when out in public. It's the whole "I don't care/I don't want to/I don't have to" attitude that many New Yorker's have that is going to come back and bite this country in the ass. A second wave is already brewing on the horizon and sooner than later it'll be due. Maybe some people couldn't care less, but they'll care when it finds their way to them.
  12. Let's hope that the inspectors do their due diligence with this. In my opinion, they got the OK a bit too fast. It's always the devil in the details that are overlooked which come back to haunt the . I understand that they desperately want to get these cars back in service but they have to be more intelligent than that and have a degree of foresight here that goes hand in hand with patience. @DJHammers is a good source and I trust his predictions.
  13. They're not wasting any time transferring those 32s to ENY. There's already enough cars to make 3 8-car sets and possibly more on the way as I can see.
  14. I understand why Albany wanted to retire the R32s prematurely due to their age, but the R179s have not come without presenting some particularly concerning dangers like doors opening will trains are in motion and now an uncoupling of two cars. I'm starting to see more problems plaguing them in the future.
  15. None of your proposals address the current deficiencies in the subway system. Most of your ideas are fantasy-based and have no hope of taking shape in anyone's lifetime that is alive today. Please stop posting a set of stations that can be connected with a continuous line on Google Maps.
  16. Technically you mean that transit workers got this "110%" correct, as @Union Tpke served as a messenger there.
  17. Wait, so no one is going to point out just how steep the trackbed is leading to the terminal there at Ditmars Boulevard???
  18. I had gotten out of work at 6:05, made it to the bus stop at 6:10, and there was nothing until 6:45... An app called Transit showed almost 10 Q46 buses due at the same time, and no, I wasn't asleep.
  19. Something was up with the Q46 today because everyone was stuck waiting in the rain for over 30 minutes during the rush hour. There were like 8 back-to-back Q46 buses heading to Glen Oaks/Lake Success with nothing heading towards Kew Gardens for a long time. After half an hour of nothing, a lone bus shows up at Union Turnpike/Little Neck Parkway (where I was waiting) packed from Glen Oaks, which is rarely seen. Most of the the runs that are crush-loaded that early on from the terminal are coming from LIJ Medical Center. I have never seen close to 10 Q46 buses running neck and neck like that in the past 8 years I've taken this particular bus route.
  20. I would keep the R42s in storage in the event that there is some unexpected catastrophic failure with the R179s. I think it's a big mistake getting rid of 50 functioning subway cars when your newest equipment is not yet trustworthy.
  21. I thought the R42s were officially retired on 12/30/19?! Those trains either have a habit of surviving, or I believe people more easily than I thought. Either way, I'm happy that they got a chance to shine in the sun again.
  22. For it to work, it would involve trains using the express track southbound for the AM rush, say from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM and northbound at all other times except during overnight hours (10 AM through 10 PM using the middle express track and 10 PM through 6 AM using the local tracks).
  23. As we all know, the train runs express along the Grand Concourse during rush hours in the peak direction. During said time, the train runs local all the way to/from 145th Street and Bedford Park Boulevard. I feel that service along the Grand Concourse could be better executed though by having trains run express in The Bronx full-time with trains taking over the local tracks to Bedford Park Boulevard. During overnight hours, trains would make all local stops to/from Norwood-205th Street like they already do now. I am thinking of potential issues, like passengers disliking the fact that express trains don't realize 161st Street-Yankee Stadium, (high ridership station) severing their connection to the train. You could theoretically run both and trains local to 161st Street, then have trains switch to the express track thereafter to avoid that problem, but the speed restriction protecting the interlocking causes the whole thing to die. Any thoughts?
