  1. lol..idk why all you guys think cable is so bad..its really not. ive been there since April 2018, made decent money as a helper, got my CDL, get half hour OT everyday by coming in early to inspect my truck, got promoted at 1 year, and the work really isn’t that labor intensive. im not going to go into detail about my day but trust me, its really not that bad. ill guarantee that you were working harder with your current jobs than you will here. What is your start date?
  2. more calls will come after the holiday I believe..next class probably August
  3. https://www.safgard.com/mtanyct/securelogin#product-reviews click create account..Login is with pass number
  4. Signals failing equals delays meaning that the pressure is on..my supervisor’s son started about a year ago in Signals..ill ask how its going later
  5. helper in signals starts 50 cents lower than helper in Power..Lighting is a nice spot with a lot of OT but Signals always on the tracks and under the spotlight..also i think Signals, your 1st 6 months is school or something like that..good luck brotha
  6. power and pd are different..i know Third Rail is under PD..Substations,Zones,Test,System Operations, Cables, and i think Repair are under Power
  7. heard today that a total of 35 guys are coming to Power and 14 to Cable Section..
  8. Signals and Third Rail are all on the tracks. Cable Section is on the tracks but not directly. We work in the manholes in the walls of the tracks. And as a helper, you will most likely be flagging in all 3 that I named. Did you put your name back on the list?
  9. Everybody gets a choice, if theres 10 guys and 9 say BK days, they all aint going to BK days. There's a quota. If I had to rank best chance of going where it would be; 1-BX Nights,2-BK Nights,3-BX Days,4-BK Days. A ton of guys just got promoted so helpers are scarce. Before this move on the 30th, BX Nights only has 2 helpers. And whatever helpers are left who are becoming permanent soon, will probably be promoted by August. As for E&E, I know nothing.
  10. Nope, BX is easy to go to. They’re actually shipping 6 helpers from BK days to BX Nights on the 30th. When you come in, Supervisor will usually ask where you want to go but in the end, the General Superintendent has the final say. Also it depends on your seniority within your class. Junior guys usually get sent to BX Nights. Your friend didn’t tell you all this? lol BK Days - Tues-Saturday 8am-4pm BK Nights - 10pm-6am, not 100% sure if they’re off Sun Mon or Fri Sat BX Days - Sun-Thurs 8am-4pm BX Nights - Sun- Thurs 10pm-6am..they start their week on Sunday Night for Monday
  11. I’m in Cable Section lol..if he thinks its that intense then every other section must do nothing lol. I love it, I have no other section to compare it to but I don’t think we do that much labor intensive work. It’s more having the possibility of getting dirty because we’re always in manholes. The OT is always there and there’s room for quick movement because a lot of senior guys are retiring within the next 5 years. If you don’t like it, you put in for a transfer. Anyway, who’s your friend?
  12. don’t knock it til ya try it lol..good chance if you’re in power, you going to come to Cable Section
  13. anybody going to Power? heard a rumor that some class isn’t going to E&E but going to Power..
  14. 1st day is at 130 Livingston and 2nd should be at Union Hall, 195 Montague. Day 3 is probably some E&E shop ..Congrats everybody
  15. nobody watches you but they test your piss right after for pH levels and shit like that
  16. PCM Test list..Promo. To Power Cable Maintainer..Exam 9708 We test, repair, and install telephone, control, fiber, positive and negative cables
  17. Thank you..I’m in Cable Section..got hired as Perm. TEHP in April ‘18 , took PCM promo test in November, got called for Prov. PCM in April ‘19. So hoping this list is established soon so I can take some more seniority lol
  18. I went through what you’re going through..non-union electrician making $30 an hour with no benefits/pension..decided to make the jump and I def made the right choice..yea i had to work a lot of OT to make up the difference but now i have full coverage insurance and a prospective date when i can retire..did a year as a helper and got promo and above the $30 i was making before MTA..E&E is a hot section right now so i can see guys moving up quick
  19. just a heads up..you all will probably go to E&E like your papers say but my paper said signals and they threw us all in cable..E&E is def a great spot to be in
  20. all day..the earlier you get there, the better..alot of paperwork and alot of waiting..as far the whole thing, depends on when class starts..you’ll have to go back a second time to swear in and get your pass
  21. nobody knows when its going to start...the SPA you take at 180 Livingston, theres no way you could take it unless you were called in
  22. TWU is the transit workers union..TWU Local 100..they negotiate a new contract with MTA every few years..i took Promo. to Power Cable Maintainer..you have to wait for the exam to come out..its the same as any other civil service exam..you also have to be permanent..there was only 4 perm. helper who took last exam in November..4 helpers,14 prov. maintainers
  23. yea but im saying from a hiring standpoint..i feel everbodys pain lol..i took promo test and am waiting for results and list..i can take prov. promotion now but im gonna move from BK 8am-4pm to BX 10pm-6am
