there was a bulletin posted a few days ago regarding the media and DiBlasio or somebody saying financial cuts need to be made in the MTA and the last resort is laying people off..ill take a picture of it later..and again, 8 guys literally started 2 weeks ago so keep your hopes up..MTA is always saying they are broke and not to mention, TWU contract is up in June or July so it could be a bargaining point

8 helpers just came in as “permanent” from Exam 7609 to Cable Section last week

permanent or provisional, salary is the same

thie paper i saw had 11 people on it for friday, its the only one posted in my section so far because 4 or 5 guys in my section are going for permanent..list numbers ranged from 53-210 on the paper

somebody said today that new helpers are coming next week from outside..not sure how true it is but i will keep you guys updated

MTA was over $1.2 billion in the hole this year..if you search for the article you will find it..we were told OT was cut until March 31st..anything can happen, you guys could finish processing and start 1st week of April or they could wait til then to start processing..only thing you can do is wait

dont necessarily need it..here is the last NOE http://web.mta.info/nyct/hr/pdf_exams/8611.pdf also, we have an OT freeze until the end of March which i think goes hand in hand with hiring...within the next 5 years, ALOT of foreman and maintainers are retiring, thats why this hiring frenzy is beginning

I took 4607. Within 6 months after the test, they sent me a provisional offer. I declined provisional twice and last November or December I got a permanent offer. I had a good job but if I knew then what I know now, I would have taken the provisional offer the first time. You all will get in, just have patience.

everybody is cool from the General Supt. down to the helpers..everybody gets along just fine..a foreman or two can get moody but thats only if ya do something wrong..i love BK days..but there is still BK nights and Locust (Bronx) days and nights..and this is just Cable Section...everybody operates differently

yea I like where I’m at. Very different from working on the outside..very laid back..there was alot of OT but Transit put a stop to all OT that doesnt fall under Capital Improvement..still a decent amount though..instead of me getting 40+ every 2 weeks, I can hit maybe 20-30.

I’m in Cable Section which is a part of Power. We run cables like control,telephone,battery, fiber and the cable that supplies the 3rd rail. Test section I’m not sure what exactly they do but I know they Test different shit. And ventilation or drainage..no idea lol

You’re right. I just looked at an exam notice. It all depends who needs what. The majority of the last 3 classes have come to Cable Section. A handful went to Signals and some went to Test Section. In the last several months a bunch of helpers from Test got bumped out to Cable. Somebody at 180 knows the next start date, just a matter of waiting or asking the right person.

I think with Elevators & Escalators there are no helpers. Pretty sure you have to come off the street as a E&E Maintainer and then next title is E&E Specialist. If I had to guess, I would say you’re gonna go to Signals or Cable Section.

Not really sure because my hiring was different. I did SPA and then said no and put my name back on the list. You still have to do all the paperwork and medical. If I had to take a guess, I would say your class would start end of December or early January.

SPA is Safety Proficiency Assessment..they will show you pictures of certain situations and you just have to state what isn’t safe about the picture. thats what I remember from years ago. its not difficult lol

you are quoting me from June..that all changed with the last class coming in, what I stated was the case when I came in in April..i know in another topic i clarified with the updated information..you must work at Locust lol

sounds good man..we dont get any info, office finds out a little bit before your class starts, otherwise its just word of mouth..lemme know if youre going to signals or power

you can 100% do your 25 years as a provisional employee and never take the civil service exam for TEHP. but you will be on probation for 25 years and you will probably get evaluated after every year. kid in my section came in December ‘17, I came in April ‘18. because i took exam and he is provisional, my seniority is is 7 slots above him. once you get permanent status, you will have to f**k up pretty bad to lose your job but if your on probation, thats all the TA needs to boot you if you slip up. if you want to always have probation over your head, thats up to you. Whoever spoke to you is correct with you no test to take and still have your job. all the questions your class is asking, my class did the same thing. every single person that came to speak to us got asked the provisional/permanent/can i lose my job question.

whenever they give the next helper exam, you have to take it..only way you can become permanent. you will not be let go as provisional. unfortunately, you will be on probation until you take the test and that list is established. what are they telling you in school? do you have George as your teacher?

lol..you prob did a lot of nothing today and youll do alot of nothing tomorrow..and dont sign up for your 401k or 457 until you know what youll be bringing home..just my word of advice..enjoy the hall tomorrow

when you get your start date, 2 weeks from there, you’ll be at the yard..as for the other training, couldnt tell ya..im still waiting for flagging,confined space,asbestos,and respirator..my start date was 4/16

power is running wire, whether power,telephone,or fiber optic..signals is more in the spotlight because of the need to repair a broken signal..not exactly sure what they do but im sure you could look it up..i can only give you what goes on here and so far, its pretty good and lax..im on brooklyn days
