  1. anybody here starting class next week? Either 11 or 12 from this test are reporting to 1114 Atlantic/1097 Pacific St on Monday.
  2. Not sure if you could fail it. If you had a basic sense of the safety issues in the pictures then you should be good. When you get hired, trust me, safety is going to be beat into you. A ton of classes you will be put into. The initial track flagging class is 2 weeks long for example.
  3. SPA test is a safety assesment. When I did it years ago, they showed me pictures of certain situations and asked me what was unsafe in the pictures and what potential hazards are. Its easy, don't sweat it. I'm at my yard right now and there's a bunch of new helpers in the classroom downstairs...not sure where they're going but they are in the Power dept.
  4. Yup. Whoever starts working first has higher seniority. If #300 is hired first and #1 is hired 3 days later, 300 is senior. Not sure if you guys are coming in permanent or provisional but taking that same situation, if you were hired provisionally, if 1 became permanent first, then he would be senior.
  5. What dept. you going to that you had a medical hold because of your beard? That's something new because we only had to shave our beards once we went to Confined Space training or Respirator class. We only shave now when we have a job that we need to wear a respirator.
  6. The list is going to be certified soon and letters should go out. They can't open the next TEHP exam without establishing the list from the prior exam. And you have to take care of all tickets before you can be processed. Guy in my yard dropped in seniority because he was fighting a ticket when he was supposed to be made permanent.
  7. If you guys get an official letter with your list # in the mail, let me know please. My fiance's brother took the exam but ran into a snag with the experience so its up in the air. Also, if anybody is assigned to Power Dept., I can give you some insight. I'm in Cable Section in Power Dept. Thanks.
  8. Usually the first batch of new hires will go to E&E. Don't be suprised if your paper work says one thing and when you go to swear in, they tell you that you're going to a different department.
  9. I’m pretty sure this is going to get zero replies but figured I’d try it anyway. I’m looking to duplicate the 69 key. People who have it don’t recall where they got it copied, just saying Manhattan. Guys in my yard have copies and an original. I’ve called a ton of locksmiths, one who even said he has the machine but nobody knows how to use it. Let’s see what happens here...thanks
  10. Bunch of tests..Vision Test, Hearing Test, Lung Capacity Test (Spirometry), EKG, Blood Pressure, once that’s all done, you’ll wait for a TA Doc to go over everything and sign off on you..you’ll be there all day..i just went for my yearly and I was there from 9am-3:30
  11. don't go by what you paper says..you may or may not go to elevator and escalator..mine said signals and i went to power and guy that just came in a few months ago, his said E&E and hes in Power
  12. Next calls being made isn’t going to be told to anyone that is in training..for the class that is there now, they already know what dept. theyre going to but i was told 10 new helpers coming to cable next week..you guys waiting for calls just gotta hold out..there is literally no way of knowing
  13. there is no set number for a class. it could be 3,10,40, or 100..it depends on what section needs what..and training im sure is different for each section..impossible to figure out unless you speak to someone from that section..
  14. you should have an admission letter in the mail today or tomorrow..if you get that, i think your good
  15. couldnt tell you..where im at theres 34 maintainers and 10 helpers and cable section still has BK Nights and Bronx Days/Nights
  16. it all depends on how many people they call and what section you go to..class sizes are different all the time..it seems initial training last 3 weeks now for my section at least (Power Cables)..for Cable, you have to do additional training..Flagging is 2 weeks, Respirator is 1 day, Confined Space is 3 days, and Asbestos is 1 week but not necessary to work in the field..
  17. Signals, Elevator & Escalator, Power, Power Distribution, Lighting, Telephone, Infrastructure..cant think of another one
  18. Good luck man..lemme know what day you heading to Atlantic
  19. Pretty sure I know who your buddy is by you saying put in 170 1st day..was a little upset that he had to go to BX lol
  20. i think what they’re doing is getting you basic qualifications..my first two weeks i did track safety, right to know, and fire evac/safety. so i believe your first day will be at Atlantic and next day or that night if youre nights, youll go to your spot. i think 3 of you will go locust night and 1 will stay bk days.
  21. and 3 of those helpers i just found out are getting transferred..2 to Test and one to Zones i believe
  22. BX always needs drivers lol..they just got 6 helpers and sent one of their drivers to BK..those 6 obviously would go for driving school before you..wonder why youre doing 3 weeks before coming...you doing Fire Prevention or Right to Know?
  23. You in class already at 53rd? I thought you were starting first day like at 130 on the 15th. The supervisors and office guys will be there on the 15th but all the helpers and maintainers are off. The last group that came in stayed in BK until they were all qualified and then got shipped to Locust. About 5 months. Not sure if they will do the same with 3 guys. BK days only has 3 helpers that aren’t drivers and they will probably be promoted soon. When did your friend start in Cable?
  24. So the week of the 22nd you’ll come to Atlantic. That’s where im at..BK days..i dont think youll have an issue getting bronx but it will probably be nights. Helpers in Cable don’t drive unless they have CDL. its a 2 week class but it takes a while to go to that class and its up to office who is gonna go. SO and Zones, don’t need a CDL. As for your transfer, you can put it in but it will be at least several months before they honor any transfers. Your buddy is in Locust Night right?
