Finished pre-employment drug test today. Mostly went well. But one thing has become apparent to me--some of the people who work at 180 Livingston def are not the nicest people. The lady who administered my drug test comes to mind. Seems I may have to really assert myself at times when I join Transit. But will see what happens.
No but I've driven a Uhaul truck and a UPS before. Don't have the license just the permit. Willing to listen to whatever they tell me to do and try my best.
Holy crap, just got a call for preemployment next Wed. This, after I went in today to see what's up, was told there wasn't a class, gave them my contact info and was told they would call when there was one, and now 10 mins ago, the call came. Problem is, IDK if in my job, I could take a leave of absence for training, in case I do fail.
In this case, not sure I can cover myself.already took a full week vacay last month and I don't have much more, as I'm still relatively new there. Might have to chance it.
Yeah, but this seems to be a common thread when calling the MTA. Hardly anybody there seems to know what's going on. I was lead to believe (and worked towards) something that was supposedly coming next month, and now might take another six months or so, when I just want to leave my current position now,
So this is some straight bullshit! I was told by someone at the MTA employment line last week that there was an upcoming class for next month. But I called Ms. Chestnut (who was on vacation) and she said she hadn't heard of a class for then, and to call back within the next few months! I'm pissed.
(She did say, though, that she didn't know at the time, and she might hear something else this afternoon).
I'm still pissed, though. Will try calling again tomorrow to see what's up. But atm, should I just wait for T/O to call me instead? This is frustrating!
Okay. Also, I heard that the low seniority depots are in Upper Manhattan from two dispatchers yesterday. And the higher seniority ones are in the Bronx and Brooklyn? Also, which in your take is more dangerous: diesel fumes from a bus, or being in the tunnels as a T/O each day?
Hold on--when you're off the extra list, they can send you to different depots each day? I'm a tad confused. T/O's on the extra list start and end at different terminals frequently, as I understand. I thought you just had to report to the same bus depot each day.
I work out on the regular. It sounds like DOB is a better deal than RTO. I'm on the T/O list from last year. But the horror stories about scheduling I hear there are making me think twice.
I know I'll have to be an xtra extra as a B/O, too. But overall, it seems a more suitable fit.
Thank you! Do they give you adequate time after each run to stretch? I read one account from a B/O who said he had thrombosis b/c he repeatedly had to do back to back runs without getting off. He worked a line in Queens.
Also, given that the job requires sitting for a long time, how do B/O's deal with the knee and posture/back issues that come with the position? I want to have an idea of what I could do to avoid or lessen that.
I'm more scared of Manhattan because I'm a former cab driver. I had to endure stressful as hell Manhattan traffic for a living, 12 hours a day. When I did pickups in BK, however, it was like night and day how much less stressful the traffic situation was. Don't wanna go through that again.
