I wish it was that easy, been here almost a total for 5 years 1 year c/r and 3 years a t/o and I was luckily enough to pick as a t/o within my 1st year. Weekends off this early will be pipedreams unless I'm lucky enough to get a bid job with weekends off. This job is what you make it some people come from a comfy job with zero senority and then come here thinking they'll get holidays weekends and the tour they want. We are all warned before we start this job that we won't get that but people probably think it's all hearsay. I was going for my bachelors in law and had to stop because I learned the hard way when I started this job that they won't work around your school schedule like a normal job would.

You’re right on point with this one! People need to understand we are all warned about the schedules, the unexpected late clears due to the road blowing up! Literally had them tell us in orientation if you have children, make sure you have a back up baby sitter for you regular sitter and just in case, have a back up for the back up! Now why continue in the process, just to get through school car and start acting like this was all new? Seems childish to me! Again the job isn’t perfect but it’s what it is when in terms of the description given in the beginning!

  2. My last thing on the complaining stuff, this thread wasn’t started for that lol, it was to give information on the process of getting into transit and to track the process on which numbers were being called! I just had a student who literally just came back! So he was called, but because he wasn’t gonna get weekends off he left! Resigned. Then boom, he reinstated his name and came back. Lost 2 years on his seniority over nonsense smh lol, nothing to do with operating, equipment, just because he thought coming into a seniority based job he was gonna get weekends off!

  3. Ain’t been here in a while, had to catch up, just want to say good luck to all the T/Os in school car! Study and get your rest! Made 5 years this year and man did the time fly! Look I get we’re all entitled to our own opinions but seriously you people on here complaining constantly should look in the mirror and ask yourself why are you still here if transit is so bad? Like the job isn’t perfect, I’ve had my fair share of bad days, but the job itself is great! It’s the people that make it annoying at times! However with that said, we’re adults, you have better options at making a good living then go do that! I’m a native New Yorker so I know the customers will be customers! Like seriously stop trying to deter people from taking an opportunity with childish thinking! Transit tells you everything in orientation and school car. This is a seniority based job, you have to put in time for what you think is a good job, good days off, good vacation! If this is your first seniority based job this is why you get frustrated and start complaining, when in all reality you were told this from day one! Like I said the job isn’t perfect, but it’s a lot way better than no job or dead end jobs with low pay! That’s my opinion, again good luck to all who’ve recently been called and those waiting good luck also and hope you get that final call soon!!!

Damn, this is hard to read.  My class is currently on Road Ops and I don't think any of us have any idea of what it's going to be like when we finish.

Listen this job isn’t for everyone. However I will say you can make it what you want it to be! Not everyone is going to go through the same experiences! Please keep that in mind and don’t just take in all the negative stuff being said!

  5. Damn it really sucks to be hearing people having incidents, just don’t let the incidents get to you! Stayed focused and operate as you were trained, mixed with what you learn road posting! None of us were born train operators and anyone down here who acts like they’ve never had an incident is a straight up bozo! The job gets better with time! If this is what you want of course!

Why do you think XL is rougher than XX? It seems much better to me. Not too much commuting. Never on board. Fixed tours and rdo and you always work the same 4 lines.

Both of these can be rough depending on where you’re at on the seniority list. You aren’t on board when you’re XL unless it’s really no job or you get a job that someone resumes from being sick. That’s happened to me plenty of times. That working the same lines don’t mean much lol the lines can start anywhere especially in the South!

I wish it was still like this.  I'm in the A division and our schedule is 7am-3pm.  Our road days are in the middle on the week from 9am-5pm and then the next day a 7am start.  If you have a long commute the schedule is brutal.

Last week on Saturday July 30th, we had our first practical on new tech.  Next week Saturday August 13 we have our second practical on SMEE and then our first signals midterm that following Monday.  The schedule is so condensed.  There is so much to know.  It feels demoralizing at times.  My group are doing very well, everyone passing the practice signals exams at the Sim and we all passed our practical.  But it still feels so condensed and like you have no time to absorb the stuff you're learning.

Stick through it trust it’s gonna all make sense when you come out on your own. Operating is the best way to put everything together! Wish they gave us more train time in school car. Good luck and keep thinking positive!!!

Wish ppl stop wasting other ppls times and opportunity for this job, for those that actually want the job and those getting called and leaving. Bad enough transit takes a sh!t long time to contact you, This is not a cake walk 9 -5 ,, ya be all over the place with no time for personal time unless you become a senior  senior employee. TRY LIRR or Metro North all ya be crying , Rto subways is cake. Stop wasting people's time for those that are dedicated and willing to do the job.

Lol I understand your frustration but you can’t technically be mad at folks. They paid their money to take the test, passed and took the opportunity. The real issue is the actual job! There’s no reason really for people to be actually quitting once they go through school car except for the environment, culture, other employees down here. Me personally I wouldn’t do all the training and quit, but I can’t speak on other people’s situations and mindsets. It’s so much that can be changed, but this attitude of “we went through it so you have to go through” is just plain dumb! It’s 2022 there are so many tools and ways to make the job easier for both crews and crew office. However, when you have situations like dispatchers in the crew office yelling at employees for calling for a late clear because they’re too lazy to check, they tell you there aren’t any jobs ask the terminal dispatcher, smh. Then this XX crap is just stupid, putting someone close to home to get enough sleep is a no brainer, especially when you have others who literally live on that side that can literally swap with that person you’re trying to punish, it’s clearly done on purpose! Then their fake fall back excuse is “you’re XX it’s to help you learn the system” lmao yeah ok.

By the way, if anyone can answer for me, what hours are the classes during schooling/training? Sorry of this has been answered already, was searching but couldn't find answer. I know probably M-F but wondering if it's 6am-2pm etc. Thanks in advance!

I’m sure the times change and vary but when I started in 2018 we had school car M-F 7am-3pm. Some Fridays you have road days so you might start earlier. The weeks also change based on ya schedule which you will get once you start and are assigned TSS’s after you pick divisions. Your calendar they give you will have your start time and reporting locations for the entire school car.

Easy now some of us 20 year folks are good people don't be fooled by some...

Us off the street folks paved the way for a lot of yall...

What we went through is nothing compared to the easy way most of yall got it now Crew Office changing our days off, our tours, being just damn nasty on the phone to the point where you wanted to wait for one of them after they are done.

I had to cancel four mini vacations because of them changing my days off but i stuck it out because i knew down the line it will work out...

It didn't jade us either i think most of us is willing to  teach anyone whos willing to listen because there want many folks who did not want to teach US..

Now if one is a know it all then we let 248 or Labor Relations have a go at it...

OG I never said all of the 20 year folks are bad, I said the ones that are always complaining but can’t explain why they still here! You always speak positive vibes, so trust I’m not coming for you at all, you definitely been responding here before I started and been on ya post, very much appreciated!

You can't have less than half of your sick time left in the bank. We get 12 sick days a year, lets say you've been here 3 years that would amount to 36 sick days you should have. As long as you don't have less than half aka less than 18 days then you're good, if you have anything below 18 is when they can mess with you when or if you take a promotional exam.

I heard this as well, but have never seen it in writing. Obviously you don’t want to look crazy out here trying to get a promotion and you’re never at work for your regular assignment, but I know more than 5 T/O’s (2 from this exam and 3 from that last one) that did not have half their sick days and they got promoted. Now I also heard of T/Os getting turned down for dispatcher because of this, but honestly it’s on a case by case basis. Transit does what transit wants to do. Everyone knows the crew office has their ways down here, but for everyone in school car, that has nothing to do with you right now. Focus on them exams and getting use to operating. You don’t need to worry yourselves with more unnecessary stress. There was a jump in our seniority by 500+! People are still being promoted/retiring. When it’s time to pick sorry about that stuff then. Check out the vacancy bid. It’s so many ways around this place, that you don’t get turned into one of these zombies always speaking negative about the job, but STILL HERE! And that’s no shot at anyone here I’m talking bout the 20 year folks

    Admiral Ackbar's Voice:  IT's A TRAPPP!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

I already know lol, my thing is these people really don’t know how a message board or forum works. Like read first, because you can clearly tell I wasn’t the one who said I had the exam I clearly responded to the message just like everyone else. Smh but it’s cool I’m not shocked typical transit behavior.

  13. Good afternoon all, not sure if any of you current posters were in Coney Island yard today but I seen 2 classes I believe taking their practical, good luck! Just wanted to also stop by, everyone must really be careful what you post on here, this is to that poster who said they had the signal exam. Clearly that wasn’t the smartest thing to do, but after that many others chimed in stating school car superintendent caught wind of all this. THEN a random user starts following me and says can I send them the exam…smh. I’m like I don’t have that and I never said I did. Not sure if it’s really a new hire or one of the square transit people trying to trap me lol bad try…

No need to respond with negativity or attitude I was just trying to gain clarity or something you seemed so sure of. This is after all the Hiring Process thread. Thank youu for the clarity and postive vibes to you as well!!!!!

No of course not I’m just saying most ppl would of felt attacked but I can admit when I was wrong! I hope there’s classes all year honestly, we need fresh faces and talent down here. The staffing is bad but you let them tell it everything’s ok lol

UMMMM Sir I thought you said there wouldnt be a August class without a July class. Its looking like theres no July class  👀

Yeah I was told this in May by a TSS, if I was wrong I apologize, again I’m going off what a TSS told me when he got on my train. I know they have new TSS classes as well because they need them for school car, so that might be the issue not enough available for classes. I won’t even respond with negativity or attitude I hope you all get called soon, I been in your shoes I know the wait is a been excruciating! Positive vibes to you!!!

To add to this I'll emphasize doing your research..

I bid and won an AM job on the Apple. I was very happy to have some stability and even though it was a temp, the owner of the job never came back so I've had it since March 1st.

I did do my research, but i underestimated how tough doing 9 trips to far Rockaway per week is! 🤣

No wonder i won the job! Nobody else wanted it.

I don’t mind the Apple on the AMs, you’re express and the view at 207 is amazing lol. To add your statement yeah a lot of hidden gems be in the vacancy bid, never think “oh my seniority not higher enough for this job” just put the bid in cause you never know!

Those days are over i was XX for Five years like most of my classmates..

Most folks will be picking in two years...

Yes you can get bounced around and yeah there will be tough days but it nothing and i mean NOTHING like how it was when i started in 2001.

Yeah I agree I think from starting in 2018 I might have been XX for a year a half and even that wasn’t bad I just grabbed jobs off the vacancy bid. You have to do your research and make the best of your situation! I get it there will definitely be bad days but what job where you aren’t the CEO that don’t consist of bad days lol

What's annoying is that they talk as if only O/C T/O's keep messing up, but there are countless stories of T/O's hired before the O/C exams dropping the ball and only getting away with it bc people didn't use camera phones then.

And yes, there are numerous examples of O/C guys screwing up. But I know a promotional T/O in my induction who has a worse record than I do.

I've met a C/R who had gone to T/O and demoted himself back because he couldn't stop from hitting multiple homeballs.

There's the C/R who split multiple switches in CIY as well.

I took a promotional T/O with over 20 years as a student reposting on his pick job recently, and how he operated through flagging made me almost flip out.

It's not always as black and white as they show it.

Mannnn listen smh a lot of these people carrying on as if being a C/R or Cleaner makes you a better T/O than someone from O/C list. Again ME lol I don’t pay it any mind I know why I had my incidents I had, ask them though and they have all the excuses in the world because they know they can go back in title. All the real major incidents I heard about in school car and posting was from promotional people! 🤷🏽‍♂️

Sup guys.  For the Day 1 T/O Introduction, they want dark blue pants.  I don't own a pair and was just going to wear some long black khakis.  I can't imagine they are going to give me problems over this right?

I would just go to target or any discount store, old navy, etc and get the pair.
