Well that’s understandable. That happens all the time. That’s another TSS telling your school car TSS that that person is shaky and is going to fail.

In that other post,  you made it sound like your own TSS will tell other TSS’s that your operating is horrible thus putting a target on your back.

Thats the part I was saying, they wouldn’t do that because it’s gon make them look like a bad trainer.

lol that’s not the same thing? Again training someone doesn’t make them a good operator. You can train a person to know all the procedures and signals, but if someone is just shaky in the cab how does that make the TSS a bad trainer? It’s not just knowing definitions and getting high scores on test, once you’re operating all that is out the window. The TSS isn’t holding your hand, taking brake, power, reading grades, etc.

The 5 years to reach max applies if you do 2 yrs c/r and then 3 years t/o?? In other words 5 years and then you max in any position you  transfer to?

If you’re a T/O you need 231 road days (operating with customers) to reach top pay.

  3. 8 hours ago, Elfamoso2020 said:

I don’t think they would be telling others because that’s would make them look like a bad TSS that couldn’t train his student well enough to Operate a train. It would make them look like a bad trainer. You get what I’m saying right?!

I understand but I’m telling you it happens because I seen it first hand! Had a guy in my induction class who failed the customer prep practical and his TSS gave us our practical same day and he was saying he knows dude is gonna fail and already told my TSS who was giving his class their practical like yeah this dude is shaky and he most definitely failed. But you know what honestly that’s not all on the TSS, some ppl just can’t get the concept of operating down. It happens the job isn’t for everyone.

You won’t have a nice conversation with a superintendent. Road ops is a control environment. That’s the perfect time to do it. It’s just you and your school car TSS in an empty train.

If you do that during road posting then that’s a different story lol

You’re correct, my fault he did say Road Ops, I read Road Posting, my apologies, still it’s not that serious to do that, especially if you’ve been having trouble operating already through school car, you know your TSS will tell the others and you put a target on ya back.

For those of you doing Road Ops after your second signal exam, if you get a 68A or 160 on the Brighton line, very important you practice going in hard and taking a strong brake last minute.

Yes, I am telling you to slide out of the station, particularly at Ave M and Ave J.  Know what it feels like to have no control in a controlled environment.  It will help you later on when you take a train in inclement weather.

Lmao what the hell? You can’t be serious, are you? You do that and best believe you will have a nice conversation with a superintendent! How about you just come in the station under control and stop your train accordingly, it’s not that serious, are you on the job?

So no one has any insight on any potential classes coming up? I’m tired of reading about all the silliness everyone talks about on here lol. I’m just here to find up what’s going on with these damn classes 🤦🏾‍♂️

I don’t think anyone has mentioned going in for medical and being sworn in lately. I go in for my final at 248 on April 29th, I will check the gym to see if there are any induction classes there and let everyone know. Last time I was there was the beginning of March and there was a conductors class only. Hopefully they started the train operators hiring back!

    Topic switch!

Cleared medical hold in January, not appointed due to 1/28 class being filled while I was on hold...any ideas if I need to go through medical again or just the whiz quiz? My name was re-instated with DCAS and I did receive the confirmation from them. I e-mailed this question to the higher ups and have not received a response yet...

Don’t know what you went on hold for, but a classmate of mine was on medical hold for a prior surgery, he went and got the paperwork from his doc. Came back and had to do the entire medical over again with all of us. The urine sample for drug testing will be done over if your initial one expires! That second urine sample they take during the medical isn’t for drug testing I can’t remember what it was for. So again someone in a similar situation as yours in my induction class did have to do the whole medical over for their appointed class.

  8. Lot of informative ppl on here, let’s not lose focus on the thread y’all, we all have one goal to get in! To everyone still waiting, trust it’s a process but stay positive and patient! Can’t stress it enough, the last list went into the 9000s, the hiring has slowed down but it will get there! The weed question, can’t front annoyed me, ain’t care to respond because I know I wouldn’t want to be on no train with an operator who is allowed to smoke I’m just saying. The thread is about the hiring process, this bill hasn’t been passed so I’m sure it has nothing to do with this list! Plus TA is state regulated. Again good luck to all the new hires, just finished posting on the B, the 68A ain’t bad don’t let them scare you!!! Good luck to those waiting as well your time is coming, hopefully sooner than later!!!

On a different note, I called DCAS a month ago and they said I was on an outstanding certification, and then I called then again yesterday and now it says that I'm currently not on an outstanding certification. Does anybody know what this means?

You might want to speak to someone at DCAS or 180 to get a definite answer!

I agree being responsible for millions of lives and then having points or crashes or accidents with a car can be applied with how reliable you'll be when operating a train. Like would the operator be the type of person to eat the red light and get the train tripped? Or would he go over the speed limit on a GT sign and then derail the train?

I don’t think that’s all the way true! Nobody knows why they put that, because I had A LOT of points on my license, when I got called shyt I just plead guilty to a bogus speeding violation! However I caught all my tickets in a bad 6-8 months when I just couldn’t catch a break! Before that I didn’t have a violation for like 7/8 years! I reported all on my background and I got the job! Ppl down here will tell you, there are ppl who don’t have a drivers license, as their exam didn’t require one and they’re great operators. Then you have ppl who do have a drivers license and are horrible operators or just can’t get the understanding of how to control a train. Your history doesn’t exactly go hand in hand with the concept of operating a train!

  11. Third week of Road posting, had the A 3 days so far and the C next 2 days. Been getting good reviews from trainers everyday, feel like overall operation is good! Understand how to approach timers and blind spots! Station stops of course get better daily, miss one or 2 here n there, but I think that’s from not knowing the location of the station car stop signs, so it’s easy to misjudge a brake here n there! Gotta stay positive and keep the confidence in knowing you can control your train and stop it! Hope everyone else who is YX doing their thing, forum been dry lol.

That was back when I was first in school car 5 years ago.  And that was Metro North it happened with.

lol I figured this couldn’t have been recent. All the VIP said was start a school car experience thread for conductors compared to the one for train operators. He never said to cheat or send answers! Saying stuff like that sounds like a recent class out of school car had that happen, which is not the case and that article clearly stayed metro north employees! I’m sure it’s not a problem if you add to the original school car thread VIP.

  13. 7 minutes ago, 123melvin said:

Don't do it. The MTA let go of a whole class because it was rumored that the questions to a test were leaked and some people were cheating.  So they let go of everyone.

Where did you hear this from? That’s a serious situation, haven’t heard that down here, you work for TA?

Can anyone confirm the list number NYCT is up to, I just got a letter from NYCT that I'm #072x with a 95%

Scroll up to the top there’s a green banner that has the info there. Or you can scroll through the pages and read the post to see who posted their status and number, I believe it’s in the 800s tho.

Who do I ask for when calling that number?

That is the number for Dual Employment. Tell them your situation. Also if you report April 1, 2019 they will ask you if you plan on working at another job, there is a form you fill out so you can wait if you want. School car for me as a T/O was Mon-Fri. Only time we worked on a Sunday was due to Thanksgiving holiday. There was another class that had to take their practical on Saturday also, so bear that in mind. I’m not sure if it’s the same for C/Rs. And to the person asking about the uniform, the green paper you received tells you the color of shirt and pants to wear until you receive your uniform in the mail.

Today I tried calling 180 Livingston to inquire about how to notify transit I want to work Saturdays while I’m in school car but they didn’t answer.

Does anyone have an email or phone number of a person that can assist me?

If you didn’t hand in your homework yet just wait until you go back to turn it in and let them know, they will give you the paperwork. Matter fact just call (718) 694-3798 because I’m not sure where you are in the process, good luck.

I've also asked the same and got a similar response. Ok let's say you have want to work OT you want to work 50-55 hrs per week. Is that feasible?? On base pay at my job I earned $83k. I worked approximately 50hrs or less per week.

My pay is up 14pct. So will definitely go and ask questions about ot and everything else I'm curious about.

Oh yeah you can and will get the OT! I’m not sure for conductors but as T/O during school car we didn’t get OT straight 40. Once YX started though, working an RDO and doing late clears was regular!

  18. 6 hours ago, Ador said:

Can someone please explain " late clear " how much additional money this actually is. Also, anyone recently on the job give me an idea on how much OT is available during your first and/or second year. I am trying to determine with OT, late clear, night or weekend diff, how much you can reasonably expect to make in the first few years on an annual basis. Obviously the pay rate increased in steps but I am  really concerned with what you can expect in year 1 or 2?,,, Thanks!

Well that depends on a few things. I’ve been on the job and have heard them call on the radio for any C/Rs who want to stay for late clears for certain times! I’ve also been at the terminal and heard the dispatchers asking if any C/Rs want to stay for extra trips. The lines might not be to your liking! I’m assuming you want to make money so you wont mind working any line. If you want to make money you certainly can! For late clears you get paid their weird version of time and a half, example if you get 4 hrs of OT, you get paid those hrs at straight pay then 2 bonus hrs at half pay to make your time and a half.

So this is kinda random, but I saw a one-armed TSS this week (who said he thinks a class might get called next week). I'm sure he can operate something like a 160, but how the hell do you operate a r32 or r6a with a single arm??? I took three looks at him and was like HUUH?

It’s preferred you to take the road practical on a R68A, but he definitely can operate all the 2-handed equipment! There were allegedly 4 Superintendents when he was taking his practicals and he climbed up and did his thing!

What's funny is that I actually encountered another C/O later that day who told me there is a freeze, but not for RTO. Which would line up with the other threads. If there was a full freeze, no way people would be getting called down ton Livingston next week, right?

Yeah I don’t listen to these crew room lawyers! These ppl just be talking to talk! Conductors are coming in, not heavy I believe like 30-40 an induction class, but they’re still coming in! I saw a class at 248 at the beginning of the month doing their track safety.

  21. 36 minutes ago, MarkGuy said:

So some c/o's I spoke with said upper ups told them there is an actual full hiring freeze last week. But im seeing people in other threads still being called to 180. Don't know what's going on.

There are a lot of conductor classes!! My last week of YX I saw a TSS and he said he was having a new conductor class starting the following day! If there is a freeze or isn’t again just stay up to date with Ms Vargas and here, I’m sure we’ll get word of the next T/O class once someone’s called!

  22. Passed the second signal test yesterday and did my thing on the YX, a lot of ppl ain’t take it serious because it doesn’t technically count towards you, however do remember all of you in classes now, that test still goes in your file! Also it’s like a temperature check for the final exam! Next up is road operations for 2 weeks then road posting!!! Can’t wait to get out there and get better with these station stops and seeing all the lines!

A question for the "veterans" on the board. My drug test expires today (90th day). My list number is 16xx, and I have no problem chilling and waiting. Just curious if I should call or not. Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks

You don’t have to call, they know your test is going to expire! They will call you to take another test when ready! My test expired during my process and I was called to take another one, it’s nothing serious.
