I see… I spoke to my union rep and he told me I can come back within a year, probation or not, if I decide that sanitation isn’t for me. Not that I don’t believe him, but I was looking to confirm that with someone from transit.

That’s what everyone tells me but today it’s cold and raining and I’m chilling on the bus dry and comfortable… I know both sides have their pros and cons but the money is much better in the beginning for DSNY and a big pay cut is gonna be a tough pill to swallow…

Hello everyone hope all the probies on this list are doing well. I’m about 8.5 months on the job and doing well so far. I have been contacted by the dept of sanitation for an opportunity as a sanitation worker. I am conflicted as to what position would be better for me as I am very happy as a BO currently. I was wondering if @+Young+ or anyone else with a way to contact HR for bus operators could give me the contact information. I could be leaving during my probation and I was wondering if that affects my ability to come back as a bus operator if I decide that the DSNY isn’t for me. Also, if anyone has any experience or knowledge about working for the DSNY I would love to hear what you have to say because I don’t know much about the job compared to being a bus operator. Thanks!

Hey everyone, I just had my second probie ride yesterday. As the superintendent was getting on my bus I recognized him from eastchester. He was undercover and wasn’t going to introduce himself but I looked at him and said hello and then he gave me a look and said drive safe! I made sure I drove extra carefully and everything went well. He was on for a while, all the way to the end of the line. So glad it’s over with especially since this ride was undercover!

For an acute turn you need to start turning the wheel before you start moving forward into the turn. It’s something you’ll get better with as you find them on the road but there aren’t any extreme difficult turns on qualifying day 7

Any new classes going in from this list? An operator I work with that was already hired got another canvassing email looking to hire him a second time lol. Hope things are well with the rest of the probies on this forum. Everything’s been well for myself so I’m lucky so far. Enjoying the job every day!

When you’re a transit worker you have to report for work that day no matter what the weather so might as well get in that mindset now!

I was on the road yesterday and never went over 10-15 mph. I was super late but safety first!

Yeah you are totally right I am not really that upset about the money because this is what I was expecting but I had a good stretch from after graduation to the start of this pick that I was making pretty good hours for someone I’m my position. Soon I’ll start doing COVID cleaning on my RDO to make some extra money. Congrats on finishing probation!!

I was scheduled to go Friday but I was working so I couldn’t go. Not gonna go Monday either so not sure what I’m gonna do about that. Ever since this new pick with the school closed schedule my pockets been hurting! Last couple of weeks been on report a lot and usually wind up sitting the whole night. A good thing for probation but bad for the paycheck. How about you @Natalie

My birthday passed in October and in November I had a 19-A ride from the dispatcher in my depot. He told me he was doing that with me so I know it wasn’t my probie ride. When I had my probie ride on Tuesday the Supt introduced himself and said “this is your ride” I get making ada announcements a priority but having that be an automatic extension is bs!

Yes I always drive extra slow on that bus and take my turns even slower. I still feel a little nervous at times with it but it’s more enjoyable than being in a local bus. One day in November when I got work on the express and I drove by the saks 5th Ave Christmas show I really had a moment where I couldn’t believe this was my job now! So cool!

Love the express! So excited when I get to work it. Love driving that bus and in Manhattan. The tunnel still makes me a bit nervous but I really like it. Especially when half your trip is deadheading or when you get almost no passengers. Who doesn’t love getting paid to drive an empty bus?

I am not a fan of the artic! Driving it on the B1 route isn’t really that bad but I’d rather be on a regular bus and a different route for that matter as the B1 is my least favorite line in ulmer park. I went about a month without driving an artic and I didn’t miss it. In other news I had my first ride from a superintendent today. My dispatcher tipped me off when I was pulling out and when the supt boarded my bus he introduced himself right away. Obviously I was driving safe and slow yet the Supt still told me I was driving a little too fast. When I asked him if I really did anything wrong he said no and eventually got off after a little while. He wound up riding another new driver from my class in my depot tonight as well. Keep an eye out if you haven’t gotten one already cause they are out there!
