  1. 1391 was one hell of an unlucky car. According to nycsubway.org, this same car got into another accident 4 years later on the yard lead to 239th Yard. The Canarsie overshoot set (8277-80) was fixed up but it took 11 years. The R46s that derailed in QBL (5742-45) were fixed in 2 years. The 46s that derailed north of 125 (6150-3) however, were half written off, with 6152-3 buddying up with AB pair 6206-7 to make a four car train. It probably wasn’t worth it to repair said cars, as the 46s were at the time 41 years old. If 207 can fix 1391, the Canarsie set, and the QBL derailment set, IMO they could fix 6346-50, at the cost of the set being OOS for a long time (I estimate 3-4 years). Condolences to the motorman’s family for his death on the job.
  2. The TM still hasn’t removed the old black E180 St yard sticker on 9206.
  3. Do you think that 34th St-Herald Square should get a renovation once more? I was thinking the do an ESI-style reno, with glass barriers and LEDS. Even though the complex was rehabbed in the 90s, some parts of the stations still feel dim (the IND escalators to mezzanine especially).
  4. About 2 months ago I stumbled upon a full Cuomo set in service. When I got off, turns out the whole train was consecutively numbered! The train was: (S)9247-9243+9242-9238(N)
  5. The Alstoms and Siemens sets were designed from the beginning to be put together, but CI didn’t do so because of numerous problems that arose.
  6. Thank you all for the update @Calvin @m2fwannabe @MysteriousBtrain! RE: 5826-9 return: Why was it returned? Did it fail inspection at CI and got forced to be repaired by JA? The best ways to distinguish between a CI 46 and a JA 46 is the presence of nice flat spots on the wheels of the CI units, as well as the (gone or reduced) squeaking sound the axles make.
  7. Can we have a Jamaica Yard R46 update please?
  8. The can make significant progress in installing CBTC, which would reduce the amount of weekend/late night reroutes.
  9. Well there goes 3381 and its R30 blind end... 3444/3777 were always stalking me on service. I would be on the bus heading home or to school and they would go right over me. I also found out that they did their time in refuse service for quite a while until being pulled back into revenue service. Imo these two sets should have been preserved, 3381 for its R30 blind end and the mis-mate for pretty obvious reasons as well as their long history in revenue and refuse services.
  10. These are the sets I’ve seen in service (two weeks ago, assuming there was no swap since then) and are still at Jamaica Yard: 5498-5501 5570-5573 5734-5737 5802-5805 But these sets only make up two 8-car trains, so what are the other two sets to make that third full train? BTW, there will be no updates from me for the next few weeks (maybe months) due to the coronavirus.
  11. Correction: Its 9658-62. Also there is another R160 going NB. That is 3 sets of R160s in service that I have seen today.
  12. UPDATES: 5572 and friends in service NB and left 34. 8888-93 and 9028-32 in service. This train met the put in and the R46 at Union Sq. 9087 and friends in NB and left Canal. 9833 and friends + 9653-7 in put-in service. Currently riding in 9653 over the Bridge.
  13. I saw it go north with 5498-5501 yesterday, so its still in Jamaica Yd
  14. R46 on the with 5734 as one of them. Going NB and left 34St.
  15. It was 5498-5501 connected to 5802-5. Whoops.
  16. It switched lines then Also R46 5802-5 and 5500-3 passed me on Broadway Express going NB and Not In Service. This train was in service yesterday and has the bullet displayed on the rear.
  17. It did the AM Rush put in at 96 St, so its definitely in service.
  18. Thats two trains of R46s currently on the . One of them is 5734-7+5573-0 (what Darkstar8983 said)
  19. R46 heading SB out of Jamaica Yard and towards 71 Av. Right before entering Kew Gardens there is a hole in the floor going NB that reveals the location of the yard leads.
