  1. You have to be parked at a bus stop with your parking brake up and you cannot have papers lying around on your dashboard I know at my depot I can get written up for that. I keep my papers in my pocket and What I do is I remember 3 things at a time and imbed it into my head and then by the 3rd turn I go back and refer to my notes and embed the next 3 turns in my head. I’m telling you if you drive these routes in your personal car the day you find out what depot you’re going to you won’t have any issues.
  2. The same exact thing you did to get into mabstoa you have to do with TA, except there’s more paperwork that has to be filled out and you have to give them the 87 dollar money order again for the fingerprints. On graduation day I asked a superintendent what happens when you cross over to TA she stated that After you clear medical, they will give you a start date to go to Zerega and you have to do orientation day over again, you’ll probably be in a classroom with brand new bus operators that have to do day 1-7. once you get assigned your depot, idk how they do it in Staten Island, but I have spoken to operators that crossed over from TA to bus Company, and others that transferred from another depot to my depot to be closer to home, all of them state that the depot gave them only 3 days to memorize the lines by riding the lines as a passenger, and then they went out on their own by the end of the week. I hope that doesn’t happen to me. As for why they transferred from TA to bus company, they were laid off by TA and sent to my depot or it was back in the day, and they were on a TA list and Bus company called them provisionally, and then TA finally called them, they didn’t like the depot they were in and went back to bus company.
  3. It depends on why it happened. Just don’t withhold information from them on your application when you submit it and you should be ok assuming it didn’t get suspended for something really bad. Read the instructions on the application very carefully. The only thing I know for sure you’ll get disqualified for is having way too many accidents or points. You would have to take another exam and come back when the time of your points and accident clears. I think like 3 years from the time the violation happened. You also cannot have any tickets or court cases pending.
  4. I’m 3601 list number 3x i haven’t received an email yet so you obviously haven’t been skipped yet, but please give me an update so I’m ready
  5. TA hasn’t been hiring for these last two classes they’re trying to fill OA and Bus Company right now. However I would go to 180 Livingston on your RDO because If you go back on the thread, you will see people from 2612 get skipped and 2613’s got their medicals and stuff.
  6. It’s best you make the wrong turns in your personal car than inside a bus because the second you realize you went off route you will need to stop and call the command center. The auto correct messed me up.
  7. I made a mistake when I wrote “you pick your depot in graduation.” You pick your depot and find out where you’re gonna wind up right after you qualify for the job. You will start line training after day you qualify. After about 3 weeks of line training Is when you will graduate. my advice is the day you find out what depot you’re gonna be in, which is before you even get your license from eastchester, drive the lines in your personal car as many times as you can using the transit app or google maps. Write down simple index cards with the turn by turns. Take notes when your line trainers are dead heading back to the depot from the end of the route. Eventually you will get clues and realize where everything interlines and you wouldn’t get lost. Take your line training very serious. You’ll be ok if you do that. But your best bet is to drive all the lines with your personal car on your days off and write index cards each turn you’ll be making so when you are driving with your line trainer, you’ll be ahead of the game. your depot also gives official turn by turn instructions and dead heading instructions. On general information day you should have it ready. Make copies and do all the deadheads that way. Trust me you’re gonna make the wrong turns. It’s best you do it in your personal car than on the bus and trying to call comment and telling them you messed up. personally I’m not really liking the job. I’m in jfk it’s very rough because I have never been in that area in my life. I find south queens very confusing. I wish I took my line training more serious so don’t be like me.
  8. I would like to add that if you do not come prepared and are missing a document or part of your uniform they will tell you to resign and go to 180 Livingston to try and be reinstated to the next class.
  9. If you transfer, your seniority in the new depot starts at the bottom. At least that’s the way it is in MTA Bus company. On your medical date you will not know where you’re going unless you’re MTA bus because on the medical paperwork it will say either TWU 100 or ATU JFK on top of your name. The day of graduation from Zerega, they tell you what’s available and you get to pick only what is available at that time. You only get 3 choices. If they can’t accommodate the first choice then they will give you the 2nd or 3rd. You always report for training day 1 at Zerega. You will get paid for 8 hours, that will be your first day of appointment. You will be there for 8 hours filling out paperwork which will be in your permanent file forever. You must purchase and wear a powder blue shirt with a black clip on tie, or regular black tie. A navy blue or black work pants such as dickies or dockers, any pair of oil and slip resistant shoes, (I got a basic pair from the sketchers outlet store for $65.00) just make sure they are slip AND oil resistant. Also a watch. Very important because they will check. I bought a 12 dollar Casio watch from Amazon. make sure you bring every single document with you. If you have a permit bring your permit AND your Class D license. If you’re from out of state I think you need to buy a driver’s abstract and bring that with you also.
  10. Ok yeah thanks. Take the bus company and MABSTOA exam while you wait for TA just in case because I have a feeling when TA finally does call us, they’re gonna try to stuff us in Staten Island or a depot they can’t use MABSTOA operators.
  11. If you share your list number, people can find out who you are.
  12. I have seen training buses with new students in the road last week, so they haven’t stopped hiring yet. I’m very curious, how do they contact you to do another drug test? Do they automatically send you an email every month? I have submitted a drug test for MABSTOA 3 months ago and they never contacted me to do a 2nd drug test. I emailed them twice addressing my concern, and trying to get another drug test date, but I was ignored. I think they just don’t want to hire me because I was called for MTA bus company already.
  13. I submitted paperwork and did drug tests for two exams, Nothing heard back. I even emailed the employment center a week ago and no response.
  14. Im in the list for 3601 and I applied to MTA bus company and mabstoa in June. I just graduated last week. I’m not trying to discourage you or anything, but it’s gonna take quite a while for them to call you. Even if they establish the list for 3601 in the next few days, it’s gonna take a while to get contacted for your drug test and medical date. All of my classmates that are in TA were exams 2612 and 2613 with very good list numbers under 100. And now that the classes aren’t mostly filled with TA operators anymore, they’re mixed with bus company and mabstoa students that took the June exam, therefore resulting in limited capacity of processing TA students in each class, It’s safe to assume that we’re not gonna get called in to start processing for TA until sometime next year. I’m praying that I’m wrong, and they wind up calling us in less than a month from now because I want to leave queens ASAP. In the mean time you should apply for the MABSTOA and the MTA bus company exam now. It’s free, and if you happen to get called by one of those agencies first, you get to start the whole process early. Your probation time Carries over to TA when they finally do call you, and you won’t need to do the initial day 1-7 training again. All you will need to do is go in for orientation day and fill out paperwork.
  15. I’m switching over to OA. Im close to all the Bronx depots, gunhill is walking distance from me and I already know approx 70% of the routes. It would be sweet if I make it there.
  16. So I got some intel, if MTA Bus Calls you first and you take it, but you want mabstoa instead, you can do the 7-10 day initial training with bus company, get your license, start line training. assuming you don’t get into any incidents, you should be ok to transfer over and all you’re gonna need is line training for your new depot.
