  1. You couldn't have said it better! those are great photos and I will not spend a spine and a lung on an SLR if my current point-and-shoot is still yielding crafter-award winning photos!

My man, you can get a decent DSLR beginner setup for as low as $400 with a nice lens. To start with and learn from there. What does a PS3 costs these days? What does an XBox 360 cost? The games? What does an iPod touch cost? If you're serious about photography you shell out the money. I got the camera I got because I'm serious about my photography and I have the job and the money to get it. It's all about priorities. You want to play games or learn and shoot quality photos.

Look what Julio shoots with and look at the beautiful images he produces. Ask him how much his setup cost. I bet it was as much or less than a PS3 and two games. I bet most of you guys have over $500 in games alone. Get my drift.

  2. I used point and shoots and at one time the same model, there's photos my friend took with a disposable camera that looks better than some stuff I have posted with a Kodak P880! I have worked with cameras people call pieces of craps and next thing you know they wonder how I do it, if you learn your camera you can work wonders. No bull here. Sure your photos generally come out better but it's best to learn how to mess with your current camera so you can have an idea on how to use an advanced one. I used a Nikon E5600 and it came out clearer than many photos taken with DSLR cameras. People hate the Nikon E5600 with a passion too but I love it!

Taken with a point and shoot POS Nikon, but hopefully you see where I'm going with this.

Nice crisp clear photos but all flat lifeless photos. Yes today's and even some of yesterdays point and shoot cameras can produce clear crisp pictures but I'm talking about dept of field. Point and shoot cameras, at least not any I've seen recently can produce depth of field (DOF) like a DSLR can.

Look I posted before out of anger and I let it get to me there. I'm just getting tired of people ganging up on the kid all the time. If he wants to learn and shoot real photography, he should stop wasting his money and get a DSLR.

Taken with a DSLR. The large depth of field is obvious in this photograph. I hope you see where I'm going with this.

I believe this is how Daniel eventually wants to shoot. If he doesn't then I apologize and I'll just leave it like that.

  3. Ooooooooh. Thats beef on my block.Tell em Harry:p

Nah chill man I'm tired of everyone always trying to pick on this kid. He obviously has money to burn with all the cameras he's been buying. I forget how many. Instead of spending it on crappy P&S cameras invest in any of the Nikon D3000/5000, D40, D90 or Canon Rebel, 40D, 50D kits and really get into photography.

  4. I'm more worried about him thinking the camera affects how good your photos come out, really he needs to work on his skills rather than spending bills.

Cut the bullshit already, the better your tools are the better images you can produce period. Yes, there's skill involved in it but if your shooting with junk most likely you're going to produce junk. Many professional photographers would agree with this logic.

He's shooting with a point-and-shoot camera there's only so much he can do to increase the quality of his photographs. The best thing Daniel can do is save his money and invest in a beginner/prosumer DSLR and put the point-and-shoot crap to rest already. And at the same time he can shut all of you guys up too.

  5. Daniel, next time you're in the subway system, take a few test shots using different settings. Shoot off as many as possible using different settings. Load them on your computer and compare and figure out from there which combination of settings looks right to you. Then go shoot more and compare more. You'll get better results doing that then posting a thread on it. Create a progress sheet and write everything down.

You're shooting with a point-and-shoot camera. There's not much anyone can say on what to set your camera too. You must figure it out with testing and a little bit of analysis all on your own.

  6. With the lens being wide-open like that at F/1.8, it allows for more light and therefore using rather reasonale shutter speeds for underground shots and moving trains. I don't have a lens such as that you describe but I do plan on getting on for the DSLR I have because the 3200 level ISO that is on my camera isn't enough for really well lit underground photos of moving trains.....

...and what he said too. :)

  7. I want to get some good underground train shots (like of moving trains) and take better indoor pictures so I planning to get the Canon S90 for Christmas. I will keep the S5 IS for outdoor shots, but my main camera will be this one because my school activities has me staying back late at school. I finally want to start preparing for moving to DSLR and this is a good step. What do you think?

You can get the Nikon D40 kit for about the same price or a little more.

  8. I have this kind of camera: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=16347

I was wondering, which ISO and/Or settings should I use for underground subway pics? I always have my ISO on auto and my settings on Manual. Most of the time my underground pics come out blurry. and do you think I should leave those settings on for outdoor pics to? if its cloudy outside,my pics come out blurry. Any advice would help!

You mentioned blurry pictures twice. You might have a camera shake problem. The camera is shaking/moving too much when its recording the image. Your camera is going to react slower in low light. Be patient. Try holding the camera more still first and see how that goes. If your pictures are more sharp then work on the ISO and everything else after.

  9. Please note that it is the policy of the administrators of NYC Transit Forums that we do not discuss in public the reasons for a members removal. That is a private matter between the owners and the member so do not create PM's or threads.

Please understand that we don't ban people for minor infractions, first offenses or perceived slights. Bans are usually predicated upon a known pattern of behavior/results to the infraction or failure to comply with NYC Transit Forum rules.

All timeouts and bans are always taken jointly as a team and there are always two sides to the story. Because of this, we do not want to get into public discussions with members over issues that are a private matter between the member and the staff. This is the reason why threads on banned members are removed.

Thank you very much for your understanding.

  10. You report that spam or offensive post. The person being reported will not know that you reported their post so do not hesistate to report a spam or offensive post.

I am finding that many people don't know how, or don't even know they have the ability to report a post to the entire mod team with very simple press of a button.

We wish to keep this forum as clean and spam free as possible. However, the forum is big enough that we cannot read every thread, and therefore miss things.

What qualifies as a spam post?

Most of the time spam posts are pretty obvious. Someone might join with the name FREE_VIAGRA562, and then proceed to post a thread with nothing but links to sites where he tries to sell you stuff.

Sometimes it's hard for even mods to decide if something is spam. So, if you are EVER in doubt, and think it might be spam, please report it, and we will decide.

What qualifies as an offensive post?

We do our best to keep things civil among the forums so we can enjoy a pleasant environment. But like it or not, there are thousands of members here, and there are bound to be conflicts now and then. Unfortunately, those conflicts occasionally get out of hand. Again, mods do not always see these posts unless they are brought to our attention.

If you ever think a post or a thread is getting out of hand, or is completely uncalled for, feel free to report it and let the mods decide the best course of action.

    How to report a post

You may not have ever really paid any attention to the report button, so you may not know that it's right there.

On every post other than yours, there will be the little '!' icon, as shown here: report.gif

Please do not abuse this feature as it intended to keep this forum civil.
