  1. I think a few R62A's are going to stay on the (7)<7>. most of them will go to the (6)<6> (hopefully b/c the LEDs on those cars would be a big help). I thought that R62A (1) train using cars from the (7)<7> was staying there. I guess no R62A's from the (7) are going to the (1).

Dont know when it will be confirmed. well just have to wait and see what the (MTA) says.

    :tup:R142A's to the (7)<7> :tdown:no more RFW.

Once the conversions are complete, and the new cars delivered, there will be no R62's on the 7 lines.

  2. Im not to familiar how they do things. Last time I checked. I thought they were broke. They are geting new buses and now new cars??? Can someone please enlighten me? I believe that the R62A's from the 7 run fine. They line runs frequently though. I just feel that those 87 Million can be used to finally complete the 2ed Ave subway or help finish it. I just don't think that it is feasable to buy new cars when the ones we have work fine. 2ed Ave Subway is far more important.

New buses and cars are funded from the Capitol Plan budget, which is separate from the operation budget. New buses and cars are needed to replace older equipment. The Second Av. Subway is going to be completed anyway. Well, at least phase one will be if nothing else. The majority of It's funding is coming from the Feds.

  3. The answer is Air Canada and United Continental Holdings, Air Canada will provide service with its partner Sky Regional ---the newly created regional airline that will be operating on behalf of Air Canada out of YTZ and United Continental Holdings will be providing service as Continental Connection operated by Colgan Air

Thanks for that post! I didn't know that. If you have another one, go ahead!

  4. Delta is not selling off the MD-90s, they have actually been buying up second hand models lately. They are VERY happy with that aircraft.

Well I don't know what he's talking about then... Maybe the Northwest MD-80's? I like the 90's as well though. They remind me of their 717 sisters. I still haven had a chance to get on one yet. Maybe for my first trip on Southwest somewhere?

  5. Yea but now its time for the big question :D

What is the fate of the R62As on the (7)? When will that be confirmed?

They will slowly be displaced as the entire R188/R142C order will go to the (7) line. I dont have a clue as to what line the 62's will go to. I'm still learning which lines use what trains!

  6. NYCTF Exclusive!

The MTA has awarded a base contract for 33 R188's for the Flushing (7) line. The order includes 23 standard R188's, and 10 converted R142A's. The contract total is more than $87 Million.

Kawasaki will convert the cab (A cars) within it's Yonkers facility. The B cars will be converted jointly with the MTA, at the 207th Street Overhaul Shop.

R142(46 eleven car set inserts) - The R142A is a 10 car train set. Therefore the 11th car will be added to each set to make a converted R188 or R142C. The first conversion set is to be completed by this time next year.

R188(10 eleven car sets) - Delivery is slated for the 4th quarter of 2012. These 23 cars, will make up 2 new 11 car trains. The 23rd car will be inserted with a converted R142A.

MTA also holds options for an additional 473 cars. (123 new cars, and 350 R142A converted cars.) The option contract is already set to be awarded, as previously mentioned in another thread.

Today, the MTA Board approved an expedited change order procedure. I'm not sure what the technical details were. The order will go to Kawasaki for all 506 cars. Delivery of these cars, including options that will be exercised will, run through 2015:cool:

  7. United Continental Holdings? since I forgot about the merger

That is correct! You are up!

The largest airline in the US is united continental inc. The largest airline by fleet would be delta but they are retiring a large number of 717's and selling off some other fleet, in comparison united continental is about to take delivery in a few months of the 787 and is only retiring the very oldest most cycled aircraft.

Lufthansa is the 2nd biggest after united continental in the world based on fleet size.

    - A

You mean their cousin the MD-90. The 717 was the MD-95. And in terms of branding, united is number one. But Lufthansa operates BMI, Austrian, and Swiss Int'l airlines under their old branding. So technically LH is number one.
