On a side note is it possible to take a carry-on bag on the express buses? I've been wondering about this because I typically take the LIRR and local bus because I'm worried about getting yelled at or being unable to make it on or off the bus with it.

Possible? Yes. Wouldn't recommend it though.

Sure why not. You may have to use the overhead racks to store it if the bus is packed. Otherwise, the bus operator won’t even bat an eye.

The overhead space isn't big enough for a carry-on luggage bag. It'd have to stay on the seat next to him.

Q112: Definitely shouldn't be backdooring its way into Jamaica

I used to say that until I took rides on it from Jamaica and from Lefferts Blvd. The ridership along Tuskegee Airmen Way is definitely there from both ends, and the MTA tried to maintain that with the Q109, which I didn't like, but didn't hate. I too would have personally preferred a more straighter approach to Jamaica, but, something would have to fill that gap with Tuskegee Airmen Way.

In any event, I'll take the current day Q112 over that god awful Q57 any day of the week.

There is demand it's just that it shouldn't be the job of the Q44. Had it been a Flushing to Fordham route that would be one thing but Jamaica to Fordham, is just too much. Jamaica to Fordham would honestly benefit from a regional express bus, but we don't do that here in MTA land.

At one point in time before the 2010 cuts, the MTA had concepts of a few "new" routes that could have been a reality. The Q94, a "super-limited" type of route that would supplement the Q44. It would've went from Flushing to 205th Street during school days(one trip) with all other trips ending at Fordham Plaza with the intent of replacing the x32 with that one tripper, and the Bx50 from Fordham to LaGuardia. The B62 was also going to be a route that went from Williamsburg to Manhattan in a weird roundabout routing via Greenpoint and Long Island City. The Q75 pre-2010 cuts was also proposed to be extended to Queensborough Community College, which would have done wonders at the time.

These are some of the ones I remembered.

Q7- Elizabeth Blackwell Middle School (101 Ave & 94th street)

The Q6 as well as the Q8 had this same tripper too but former was eliminated due to distance.

The Q7 used to have trippers Robert Goddard junior High School (Lafayette Street-149th Av)

Q11- Robert Goddard Junior High school tripper still exist today.

Q21 and Q22 - Beach Channel High School and Rockaway Beach JHS (Beach 104th Street & Beach Channel Drive

Q23 used to have trippers from Forest Hills High School.

Q25 used to have trips start at Queens College

Q37 served John Adams High and MS 137 on Rockaway Blvd not too far from the (A) Rockaway Bl station

Q41 Robert Goddard Junior High School. I believe the Q41 also had trippers from John Adams High.

Q65A (now Q64) used to have a tripper from Parson Blvd and 77th Ave to serve both Robert F Kennedy Community High, & Queens School of Inquiry (forgot it’s original name from back in the days lol). It followed the Q25/Q34 route on Parsons & Kissena Blvd to Jewel Ave and then it ran its regular route to Forest Hills.

Q111/Q113 August Martin High School (Baisley Blvd/157th street)

Q111/Q113 also had trippers from Springfield Gardens High school (which was eliminated)

The Q111 still currently serves MS 231 along with the Q77 and Q85 on Springfield Blvd and South Conduit.

The Q7 and Q10 had school trippers at MS 226 as well(I went to that school).

I never read up on anything about NYCT getting another CNG order after the XN60s. Only AEB, Diesel, and/or Diesel Hybrid.

I have 110 CNGs for MTA in my latest update, but the last time I did an update was months ago, around the MTA LFS and Xcelsior options were exercised. These buses were not included in the 2020-24 or 2025-29 plans iirc, just proposals.

They have more CNG orders on the pipeline that's not published in public materials.

Apparently, the (MTA)decided to cancel the 155 CNG order for New York City Transit. As for (MTA)Bus, the 228 CNG order has been reduced to 110. The reason for this is because they wanted to fund the (MTA)Bus XD40s and LFSes.

It is very disappointing to hear because they are confident in buying more electrics then to add one last CNG order into their fleet. Originally they were to get 383 CNGs. 155 for NYCT, and 228 for Bus Co. Now this is not the case, as Bus Co. will only have 110 CNGs to replace most C40LFs. Spring Creek will get the bulk of that order, while College Point will get some. If the (MTA)gets awarded with more electrics, then College Point will get the bulk of it to replace their remaining C40LFs.

You need to stop listening to whoever keeps giving you bad information.

The funds for the MTA Bus order were secured years ago through MTA Bus's capital plan.

Honestly, alot of this new plan is just shuffling deck chairs. What happened to expanding SBS? Right off the bat Q46, Q66, Q60, Q69, Q43, Q4, Q5, Q6, Q111 should all be SBS. I do love the new Q98 thou. Personal note: MTA *refuses* to up frequency on the Q53/Q52. Why?

Q60 SBS would be pointless with the subway directly underneath the line. The Q60 is more or less meant as a local ADA alternative. Making that an SBS would make that alternative, not a very good one.

Q43 definitely doesn't need to be SBS, same for the Q46. Even if they could become SBS routes, they'd need artics, and the problem is figuring out what depot would operate them.

Not sure why the Q111 would be SBS over the Q114, the higher ridership line between the two.

The Q5 was originally pegged to be an SBS route....until local leaders shot it down, fearing that the addition of bus lanes would kill businesses.

The Q6, if it went into the airport terminals, then yeah, I'd say it could use an SBS conversion. But I'm not sure if it's necessary. The Q6 needs artics, that's for sure, but I'm not sure about SBS.

Q88: Relieved that they're not running it clear along HHE to LNP (as per the previous draft), but I still don't care for having this run to LIRR QV.... For as long as this route exists, I will always advocate stopping it dead at Union Tpke....

Q112: I just deleted my rant to lay this out calmly imstead: If that portion of the current Q7 west of Rockaway blvd (A) doesn't do much for the current Q7, why would it do much for the Q112? To retain what was lost with having the impending Q8 run to New Lots (3), compared to the current Q8 running to Jamaica from that part of Brooklyn? Vast majority of those folks (current Q8 riders) in Brooklyn aren't remotely riding to Jamaica anyway.... The thing with the current Q8 in Brooklyn in general as it is, is that it's majorically used as a B13 supplement (meaning, interborough usage is not all that great on the route)....

I get that the Q112 is shorter than the Q8, however (and this is something that I have been clamoring for, for a good little minute in these spaces, even back during the RD days) - the B14 should be running along that portion of the current Q7... Not the current Q7, not the current Q112, not any 109th av route (like they had the Q109 in the previous draft run to).... You have a significant amt. of people from on/off B14's making their way to/from the (A); that walk is an unnecessary PITA... The B14 running to Rockaway Blvd (A)would also solve the problem of connecting East New York (the neighborhood) to the infamous Q53... I've seen ideas around these parts that has the B15 taking the exit off N/S Conduit at Cross Bay, just to have it connect with the SBS'... Absolutely unnecessary, given the amt. of traffic as it is in that immediate area... Lastly, they kicked the B15 out of the Brooklyn General Mail Facility some odd years ago... AFAIC, nothing should be terminating inside of there (like the current B14 & B20 does), and for all I care, just have the B13 run inside there....

The Q112 should be left right there where it is, regardless if they truncated the Q51 from the previous plan (from Gateway Mall) to terminate where the current Q112 does...

The Q88, I always felt like it should terminate either at Union Turnpike or Hillside Avenue(just because the turnaround would be much easier).

As for the Q112, the one thing I'm miffed at is that they still missed the opportunity to run the line underneath the elevated west of Woodhaven/Cross Bay, especially since accessibility as been a concern with that part of the (A) line for many years. Sending it to Euclid Avenue has me a little....disappointed. Gateway probably would've benefited the Q112 more now that I think about it. The (A) would've contributed it greatly.

This got me thinking, if Nova Bus isn't gonna be compatible with the Buy America Act, is the 5 LFSe+ still on their way to delivery? Iirc the 5 buses were to be delivered 4th quarter 2023/early 2024 but plans may have shifted after the fact of no more American operations.

The buses are already built. They will be delivered.

IIRC, the original plan had (Q50LTD) on the GCP and (Q19) using 108th and Roosevelt.

And the previous draft as well.

It would've gone via Seaver Way, a short stint on Astoria Blvd and right onto the GCP, whereas the Q19 would do the Q48 until Astoria Blvd. The previous draft also had the Q23 using 108th all the way through to East Elmhurst as well.

Saw 6499, 6500, and 6548 out on occasion (they mostly use the MCIs they have on loan). I haven't seen 5631-5636 often though.

Only some of those are actually loans

The Community/Rockland 17000s and 20000s are actually operated by Community themselves, as they have runs on the airport express.

The Suburban MCIs that are used I believe are the only loans Olympia have.

  12. Question about the medical hold. Is there any number that I can call in regards to setting up an appointment or is it better to just go down to 180? I was given an email and a number to call. I emailed but haven't gotten a response yet, and I called, but the number was apparently just for general inquiries and I was told to use the email that I got from the paper that was given to me to schedule an appointment.

Also looks like nova is out of the running for future orders since the MTA stated "Nova Bus ultimately withdrew its proposal prior to submitting a Best and Final Offer ('BAFO') as it decided to close its US manufacturing facility."

Nova is out altogether once they exit the U.S Market. MTA is already exploring other options once Nova leaves the U.S market and sticks with its mainstay at the canadian market. The contracts will need to stay as competitive RFPs for the most part.

I think FB got the LFSAs from Quill because of seniority, or driver preference.

Nope, Flatbush needed buses. They got those when the XD60s were having issues.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but just like everyone else who’s commented, we don’t know due to two things..

The Unions/Superintendents at the depots and

What company would get what bus line

Just because a bus line is closer to a depot, doesn’t mean it’ll get it. Generally, that’s how it should be, but it’s not all like that. For example, the M98, literally drives past 100th, but it’s outta MHV. The Bx40/42 literally drives past WF, but it’s outta GH. Sometimes it’s just not gonna be the depot it literally drives past. We just gotta wait and see.

I think it's pretty safe to say that a good majority of the routes will stay where they are at. And judging by how this draft came about, I'm also sure the union(s) also got involved, because the previous draft would've had them in an uproar.

There isn't really anywhere else you can assign the B57 to except Grand ave.

Fresh Pond can house the B57. It wouldn't be the first time that they've had the line.

But right now, it's best not to make guesses or assumptions as to what goes where.
