  1. To the first part of what you said, what makes you think that if people like me doesn't like to see graffiti on the trains that I or others would not care so much if our houses, businesses or cars are vandalized? That makes no sense at all. I don't care how pretty it might look, if I didn't agree to it, then I'm going to be pissed and I'll try to find the people who messed with my stuff and get their asses arrested. Anyone who tries to jack up the trains with spray paint or magic markers should get arrested too.

Seeing how old you are, I see that you did not live to see the subways when they were graffitied all the time. If you did, you would see how nasty the trains looked. There was no kind of "art" rolling around on the trains in 1984 or 1985. I should know because I saw it as a kid. It was just jibber jabber all over the place and it wasn't pretty at all. I've seen pics of trains that had some nice graffiti on them but even then, it wasn't the appropriate place for it. Now if the (MTA) ever approved of this, then this wouldn't be an issue for me, but they didn't then and they don't now so it's wrong. I hope we never relive the 70's and early/mid 80's down there again.

Well based on photos/vid ive seen, yes the subway pretty much looked like a dump, many of the trains were rusting up, beaten up, etc. But even if that era is over, that doesn't mean graffiti is over. There are still people who vandalize out there sir, and with a weak police department we have so far, who knows what could be next. Unless the city and the transit can stop this. But thats a loonnnnnnnnngg way.

As for my first question, people are on about trains getting tagged, but how does anyone feel about buildings getting hit with graffiti as well, there I say.

  2. You know, Most of you are talking about not vandilzing trains, but what if your own home or business or anywhere else gets vandalized? It won't matter, but trains it will matter? I don't get it, that makes NO sense....

Yeah its not nice to vandalize someones own property, it cost money to remove this and etc... But then again you have a nice piece of art painted..

TBH when I see graffiti around, it makes me feel like living in the 70s or 80s, it takes me back in time with this art. But other times I dislike SOME graffiti, like just plain written signatures or codes thats not art.

  3. Ok, that came out wrong [i'm not against SI getting new engines], but why [other than the 'budget covers them'] did they get such 'massive' engines. To me those engines look more suited for a heavier work load than basically subway equipment. Couldn't SI have gotten smaller engines?

SIR is technically a railroad, which links to other Railroad Lines that head into NJ.. TBH Id prefer to see RR equipment then Subway equipment on the SIRTOA.

Why should they get the subway locos. MNR doesn't need them, they have there own GP35s and BL20s. LIRR, idk what loco they use for move. Forgot the model.

As for fitting in St. George, Im pretty sure it can, otherwise the (MTA) wouldn't have them.

  4. Idk whats the purpose of a random thought thread for buses as we can make a thread for discussion or use the other random thought.

But anyways ;).. DOT still has to fix a few bus signs around. They got an M2 sign at 147th/Bway....... West Farms has an rts #8947........ And man i wish the Q44 was an +SBS!

  5. It doesn't stop in Hunterspoint. How will it reach Hunterspoint if it starts at Penn? That would be nuts if it had to go like that.

It stops in: Penn, Jamaica, Babylon, Westhampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton, Amagansett and Montauk.

Actually it starts at LIC/Hunterspoint as well. Not sure about Penn

  6. The real Cannonball train refers to the super express train to Montauk that leaves on the Friday before a major holiday. That's Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day I believe. It only make its one stop in Jamaica before Montauk.

    ~~

I already know that. But there is a regular Montauk express service that also does the same run as the Cannonball. Last yr it did runs ever friday. Till a week after Labor day.

  7. The Cannonball Double Decker is the Kawasaki C3s on the LIRR, which runs with the locomotive that is the logo of the railroad forum here on NYCTF lol. They run on all diesel LIRR services but the Cannonball is a super express train to the hamptons that only runs on Fridays from ethier LIC or NYP to the Hamptons during the summer.

C3 came in after 1999 as well. Pus theres only one Cannonball with the sign, even tho there is the same service ever year long.

  8. Thank you.

Disregarding self-promotion, that's the primary reason that I started the M2/M4/M6 status thread. People have been drooling over the M8's like a dog staring at a steak and complaining about the older New Haven equipment. As soon as the Boneyard starts filling up with M2's, watch for the tides to turn and the pictures to be posted.

Not all people, mainly people who are not even railroad buff are drooling.. but pretending to be one(Very Limited peeps).. The fact is a lot of them don't know nothing but just M1 thru M8 or just the whole M series.. and select LIRR/MNR equipment which is nothing. People aren't even drooling over the new F40 repaint on the MNR WOH... But are to the M8.. Even tho u dont have to drool for everything.. Well thats becuz they are NOT railroad buffs just plain under the tube buffs..

I asked one guy what was the last MNR Locomotive order and he told me "The Cannon ball double decker".. No! Its the BL20s. They dont know whats that...

Now for those who really wanna know railroads outside of MTA(And or both) and move on from subways(But maintain or not) then i congratz them, otherwise idk.

As for foaming over the M8s.. Im not into rush to get a ride, even tho i plan for next week due to a ticket thats about to expire. I still 20 yrs plus to enjoy them! My focus is the M2s and M4s and equipments around that ill end up being kicked off in the future such as the AEM-7 and Shoreliner I/II. My last catch for being kicked out where NJT Comet IB (Arrow I) which were sent to Cal via Lake Shore LTD in Jan.

  9. Ha!! I knew some of those photos looked familiar.they're Fred's photos.:P Hes the reason some of us were able to catch the M8 yesterday.ALL HAIL FRED G.!!!!!

Actually the first to post revenue photos which are sweet!

However RR Net already had the M8 schedule the day before it started service, which i was the first to post this on youtube lol..

As for riding ill wait, just gonna let everyone get there shine, since i dont want to bump into tooo many people...

On the other hand gotta catch the SEPTA newest Silverliner 5s which also the newest fleets in the NE.

OK, but what about the area where the cab is open for people to walk through the cars? Are those windows locked?

If u mean crossing between cab where the engineers are not at then it ill most likely be open since the M7s has theres open, plus the cabs should be closed halfway regardless of crossing

  10. lol theres an OPTIONAL railfan window depending on whether the engineer operates with a full width cab or a half width...

and hmmm I'm guessing the M8's have more reliability and are built by a better company? Ha there's something our M8's have up on ur Silverliner Vs.

I think the Engineers will prefer to use the full cab not half ;)! Why would one bother being squeezed inside a half one anyways lol

  11. I understand your frustration with the M8 order, but I disagree with your idea to award the M9 contract to Rotem as the solution. At the same time that we've been trying to get the M8s in service Rotem has been working on the Silverliner V order. I've been following both procurements on railroad.net, and if you think we have it bad...

Their first prototypes arrived about the same time as ours did (early March 2010), but since then Rotem is way behind us; we've been steadily receiving new cars at a little over one married pair a month (I think from 9100 up to 9117 or 9119 have already arrived), testing the #*$&*% out of these cars, and finding a lot of minor glitches. What's more, considering the power complexity required by (MTA) and CDOT (750 V DC third rail, 25kv-60Hz catenary, and 12.5kv-60Hz catenary) for basic operations and the intricacy of the software and hardware required to make these things run, most of the glitches that have been found are things that make you want to roll your eyes but aren't serious flaws.

Rotem, however, sent three initial prototypes over to Philly in March... and that was it until the New Year. The next three cars Philly saw were delivered on 12/30, and they have the plant in their backyard. Not only that, but these cars were having far more serious issues including bumming out going up a hill, spontaneous brake applications, etc. In the initial bidding process for these cars, Kawasaki came out with far higher technical qualifications than Rotem and at an almost even price. Rotem only got the bid on a technicality and (supposedly) some form of back-room agreement involving the location of the Philly plant. Frankly, I want to see Rotem handle at least 2-3 other MU contracts without a hitch before letting them do business with us.

Isnt the software glitches ont he M8 similar to those of the NYCTA R160s?

  12. The M8s arent in service yet. Pre revenue glitches don't count.

I already know the M8s are not in service... Im talking about testing.

I thought the problem was with the software within the computers of the m8s?

  13. So... are the M9's going to replace that set sitting at Hunterspoint... which I think has been sitting there for about more than 5 months now...

You should move away from subway and learn some rails.

And what sets are you talking about?

This is to replace the M3s LIRR.

M3A MNR to early to tell

I hope Kawasaki build the M9 cars! It's closer to New York City and the delivery is faster!

No thanks, especially with the M-8s having glitchs.. Why pick them..

  14. This is likely to be a LIRR based order. If not, an LIRR/MNRR mix.

Acually its both, the M9s are suppose to go on the MNR as well.. But mainly the the LIRR.

However things can change since MNR is suppose to get MLVs.

For the M-8s im not sure when they will resume, i gotta check around for more test trains.

  15. If you guys want KR back, this isnt the thread to bother posting. Email the administrator about your feelings. Its not like Harry and the others monitor this thread 24/7.

Also hes SUSPENDED, which means hes ban temporarily and who knows when he will come back and IF he wants to come back.

  16. If the R62As go on the (6), i can't imagine how the Lex riders will feel that there is no NTT on the Pelham Train.

I think a few R62A's are going to stay on the (7)<7>. most of them will go to the (6)<6> (hopefully b/c the LEDs on those cars would be a big help). I thought that R62A (1) train using cars from the (7)<7> was staying there. I guess no R62A's from the (7) are going to the (1).

Dont know when it will be confirmed. well just have to wait and see what the (MTA) says.

    :tup:R142A's to the (7)<7> :tdown:no more RFW.

RFW has nothing to do with providing service to the passengers. So where if it goes, it goes..

And you don't know where the R62As are going, its still too early.

It could go on the (6) but I'm wondering if the (6) riders wouldn't mind.
