  1. Thank you. I was just making a comment, as a distant observer. I don't even use those lines in their exclusive regions that often, so it doesn't practically matte to me. I just remember being on the when the 62A's and MK redbird rehabs were coming out; and the and had their new cars, and I figured the would get them next, for balance (especially after seeing the first 2000's @180th signed up as ), but the got them instead. So I figured the next generation would be for the lines skipped over in that generation. The was half and half, but the it seems now always gets what's new (I know it had 62's, but was basically treating 62 and 62A as the same "generation", and almost the same class). I could understand why, as that seems to be the primary line of the IRT, sort of like what the used to be for the IND.
  2. It would be used by for some ancillary purpose.
  3. I always thought in fairness, the should have gotten the 62A's. In fact, as the NTT deliveries were coming in, I figured since, the got the 62's, along with and half of the , while the and other half of the had only rebuilds (redbirds). Some of the lines stuck with the redbirds got the NTT's, while the were passed up this time. But the always got the new, and the got handmedowns. The should have just gotten the NTT's directly, and the then just keep it's last generation cars like the and . So even though the got from both orders, it still seemed unfair for it to give up its new cars and the keep all of its. I guess because that's the premiere line of the IRT, and would have to get the bright new cars (over the previous generation which by that time looked dull and dim). I wished they would have spruced the cars up, perhaps with new lighting (and maybe stuff like the announcements and other NTT stuff; @Grand Concourse, and also remove the small cabs to free up the space), then that would justify putting them on the showcase line.
  4. You're saying the new signs for the 68's are going to be flipdots? I seriously doubt it, as that is now outmoded technology, replaced even on buses by amber LED's (in addition to new trains). They'll probably be the same ones on the B-Div NTT's.
  5. I can't wait until they perfect all electric drive. Combustion has got to go, already. COMPLETELY!
  6. I assumed it was because there was no place else for them to go.
  7. With all the work that goes on on elevated lines, that is squeezed into weekday middays, even when other parts of the line are shut down on the weekends, I believe it should be consolidated into bigger shutdowns; basically, a weekend daytime FastTrack. So like yesterday, on the , there were several work gangs south of Church Ave. So this past weekend, they should have closed the entire line down. The could then run express to Brighton Beach, and the would be unaffected in Brooklyn, and only have to run over the from W4 to Jay St. If coordinated with work on the Sea Beach line that cuts service back somewhere, then the could run through to Stillwell, and use the tracks; except that they never fixed the connection of track 2 to the Brighton line (at least, not since I was last there).
  8. They could use those new kiosks they're planning (with the pilot at Bowling Green) for that.
  9. Probably costs a little bit more, but the price has come down. Then, there's RGB's using yellow green instead of pure green, which would be even cheaper (since yellow green is the old technology). Here's one I got (and notice the final message!)
  10. On the interior LED's, amber is made by mixing the red and green.
  11. They need 5 car markers on the Eastern Div. (Nassau) for that. They really should do that, as it would allow flexibility, such as resuming the Banker's specials, but using CI equipment instead of bringing ENY equipment back over.
  12. Yeah; because the actual Fasttrack work is north of W4, and the to 2nd and are still traveling through that section. Unless they're tacking on some work on the express tracks south of W4 also, or something.
  13. I wonder why the isn't running to Bway-Laf. and just relaying north of there.
  14. Wow; just in those today! Fire School refresher training. Every time I see them, I think what a waste. They should have used them for the Rock Park Shuttle.
  15. I guess they should have an all weekend version of FASTRACK for those lines, then. I know with the track replacements at Hewes and Lorimer a few weeks ago, they really needed to shut the whole thing down. It was horrible, as regular 10 min. intervals (or even the modified 12min. they came out with later) are just not enough time to move and place those track panels!
  16. Even underground, they use additional lighting (the five-bulb "bank lights", and in some places, strings of shortly spaced CFL's). They can do this on the el, as well (they would be strung along the catwalk railing). I understand all of this, but I was wishing they could make an exception on the because of all the little work they are doing in various places. (I guess the Manhattan portion of the will help, since there's often work there slowing you down, after you've already been delayed in the elevated portion. I think one of the reasons there's supposed to be no work outdoors at night, is because trains have to blow the horns (which is not allowed at night), but with FASTRACK, there would be no trains running, which is the point.
  17. There's less traffic at night, so shuttle buses would be quicker and less of a slowdown. Also, I don't see why elevated should make a difference.
  18. The Brooklyn portion, and there would be shuttle buses. (they have never cared about replacing the service anyway, jut like on the now. And if it gets all the work out of the way, it would be better in the long run).
  19. I wish they would do it on the , because of all the work they're doing all over those lines, squeezed into middays and weekends, under traffic. It's like they must have let the whole line fall into disrepair for years, and now they ave to fix it all up at once.
  20. I wonder how long it is going to take to drill those short little sections around 106th, and to 125th. It's a fraction of phase 1. Wonder if when the borer (assuming it starts at 106th), when it connects the teo existing sections, could then just be driven to the final section and continue drilling, without having to be disassembled, taken out, reassembled and lowered in again.
  21. If they did bring the back, maybe that could be the new Bay Pkwy service, since they've apparently been tossing around the idea of sending a greatly increased there. Any Nassau service out there should be a banker's special (which probably could be handled by 95th like it used to be from the beginning of the BMT subway) rather than a full fledged line.
  22. I would think that if they increased both the and a bit, then not only would there be enough service for Astoria, but there also would be enough service for the Bway Local, so the could be express again. (And not have to use the switch, weekdays).I'm surprised they didn;t think of this. Perhaps they went with basically replacing the with the , and the with the , for fear Astoria riders would react. When Second Ave. opens up, they might want to consider that, instead of starting up a new short line again, which would probably ultimately require more crews, and thus be more expensive to run.
  23. I wish they hadn't cut out the third track in the station. Since they're still doing the deep boring at that point, how much did they really save by making the cavern a little narrower? This would be a good time for them to make one of those kind of mistakes that always happens when t's not wanted, where they mistakenly build it according to the original plan.
