  1. I heard that it will be similar to what the CTA in Chicago uses on their cars. Its a small keypad with a screen, like those on a bus sign. On there cars, you enter your run number and it knows what line your on. After that you have to play the announcement manually like you already do with the door closing warning.

    Like this junk:

  2. Did some asking around about the R32 SMS and I have been told that just about everything will be worked on. A/Cs, trucks, door operators, compressors, interior work, and group switch work. The big rumor was that the old R62 groups would go under the R32s. This is the best info I have right now untill I can ask some one at CIY, but I was told that I should pray for the cars since CIY is doing the work.

What does that mean r62 groups would go under the 32?

  3. Thanks bro, well I have three and a half years with connecticut transit. At ct transit we drive new flyers, novas, cng, mci, and lfs artics. But I did not go with the cocky attitude like if I know everything. I took my ct transit skills and apply it with my listening and following instruction skills toward my instructor.

Right, Thats the right approach because if I do get called up for it, I don't want to let them know what I know. Good job 10-4.

  4. Your remembrance brought back memories to me for a different reason. We recorded those announcements at Bloomberg (WBBR-AM) when the cars being readied for service. I was the audio recording engineer on them. I can't remember all of the announcers involved, but I do remember that Charlie Pellet did the "Please stand clear of the closing doors" annoucement; Diane Thompson and Jessica Ettinger were involved. If memory serves me correctly, Diane did the IRT east side annnoucements and Jessica did the IRT west side. I can't remember off the top of my head who did the Flushing line and Times Square Shuttle. (Charlie??)

We recorded them as WAV files and delivered them to the MTA on CDs. Somewhere in my audio collection I have copies of them.

After the audio was installed on the cars, the MTA had all of us who were involved go up to the East 180th Shops to hear them before the cars went into service. That was a treat as it was the first time I had ever visited any of the city's subway yards. Ah, memories....

Thank you for sharing that great information  Thats very interesting on how those were created. I'm sure working on details like that for the MTA must be fun.

  5. No excuse to wait hours on a line for a slice of pizza in NYC! People are sheep and they must feel that they are "cool" to be waiting in line. Notice all the cameras on them...and no they are not paparazzi. Grimaldi's is way over rated, tried it once and didn't like it, never again.

They don't sell by the slice in there. If you ever saw me waiting on that silly touristy line that long for a slice of pizza, shoot me.

  6. Anyone gone to Grimaldi's Coal Pizza by the Brookyln Bridge? The place is packed, and the line goes all the way to thw waterfront (well, not really, but it's long). The pepperoni pizza there is good.

1 day I want to eat there but I hate the fact I have to wait on a line, maybe during the week on an eavning will be better, because I see that line when I'm on the bqe and its rediculus.

  7. I like my EVO I had a jailbroken iphone way back in the day but I'd never buy another.. besides a friend tried to get me to buy his iphone 3gs so he could upgrade to the 4.. I said no thanks.. He did find some people to buy it for like around $250.

My co-worker is giving me his iphone 3g for free when he gets the iphone 4 tomorrow, nice

  8. ugh, jailbreaking and unlocking are not the same thing. Jailbreaking = removing Apple's software restriction so that you can install any software you wish to install that is not authorized by Apple and on iTunes app store. Unlocking = Removing the carrier restriction on the device so that you may use it on any compatible network. IE: GSM device on any GSM network and CDMA device on any CDMA network.

Get the EVO 4G. Forget the iPhone.

I'm not getting the iphone to replace my regular cell phone, I'm getting the iphone for its features and use it for my music when I'm in my truck. I have an Alpine ipod only radio so I just plug it in to hear music. Ok, thats that I just found out that the jailbroken iphone ($1000) won't work anymore if I update it thru itunes when there's updates available, so forget it i'll just go buy one from apple and get a small plan for it, since I wont be using it as a phone. I'm sure all these other phone are F'n amazing but in my type of work I rely on Nextel for the 2 way to communicate to other drivers and people instantly, so I use the Blackberry curve 8350i for that. the phone is boring. But thanks for the advice.
