  1. Would there be a way that would have been possible to salvage 1205?

If they really are in that need of the bus and are frugal about it, they can take the back half of 5299 (the one that went head-first into a building) and mate it to the front half of 1205 and make a "new" bus, like what they did to 5656/5658.

But since we have artics coming in, there's really no need for either bus and they'll be written off.

  2. So your saying 8017 Was rebuilt in stages at different service centers?

The NovaBus plant upstate is where the bus itself was built. The Prevost service center in Jersey is where incoming Prevost/NovaBus buses to before they get shipped to Zerega.

After going up in a blaze of glory, it got towed back to Castleton for investigation. After getting the all-clear it went upstate to get fixed, then shipped to the service center for the final go-around, then to Zerega to get re-registered (still had the old plates) and finally shipped to QV to hit service.

  3. How feasible would it be to implement BusTime for Subway Shuttles? I feel like if you could track them like other buses perhaps they wouldn't be viewed so negatively and possibly get used more.

The (7) shuttle (Queensboro to Vernon-Jackson) used to be under Q99. Maybe the (M) will be too since it's a big 24/7 shuttle

Don't subway shuttle buses run on like 2 minute headways?

Generally 5-10, sometimes longer just to fill the bus up

  4. how would that affect the interlocking (From someone who basically knows next to nothing about how interlockings work)

With our (local) buses, the interlock is intertwined with the back door and the kneeler. You can drive off with the front door open (given the kneeler is up and the interlock released), but an alarm will sound, and with the Novas, the doors will automatically close.

Same thing in reverse. If you're going at speed and open the front doors, an alarm will sound until you stop then the doors open.

  5. All true, and then there are some that just don't like having to pull in and out of the stop, so they just pick up practically in the middle of the street. When there is nothing obstructing the stop, then that's what it is.

Being angled in the bus stop is highly frowned upon since that leaves the back of your bus open to accidents, especially when pulling out of stops.

They rather you pull up parallel to the stop instead of being angled into it.

  6. I've driven Prevost H3-45's through there many times & they're 12'4"

The H series is a little taller than the X series

The MTA used to quote RTSes at 10 feet, D60HFs at 11 feet, and MCIs at 11 ft 5 in, from what I've seen.

I got the measurements for the MCI and the Prevost directly off of their respective websites.
  7. Is there a difference in height between the XD40 and an XDE40?

Nahh, the XDE40 is basically an XD40 with a full roof top piece. The batteries don't pass the height of the roof caps.

The XDE40 is actually 4 inches taller than the XD40 at 10' 10"
  8. Will the first XN60 be like 677 where it was the only XN40 for like 5 months? Or will there be multiple delivered? If so what depot is first to get them?

677 was part of a 5 bus test (673-677). The others all failed while 677 passed and kept on in service. It ran out of Gleason at first, now it's in the Bronx
  9. I've seen artics go through there tho? Aren't they the same height?

The 65 St transverse has a height limit of about 9' 6" if you hug the curb, but anywhere from 11' 4" to 12' feet if you ride near the centerline.

Going by the spec sheets of whatever we have running, our buses height ranges:

    XD40: 10' 6"

    XN40: 11' 1"

    C40LF: barely touching 11'

    LFS/A: 10' 6"

RTS: somewhere in the 9' 6" range

MCI: about 11'5 or so, give or take

Prevost: just a tad bit shorter than the MCI

  10. Then don't wait for it to get this bad.

It should've never gotten that bad in the first place. There was nothing wrong with he posted, then you had to come off as a know-it-all tool about things. Us mods here are pretty lax about things here because this place basically runs itself and we all have other things to worry about, be it jobs, raising kids, or just adulthood in general; no one is disrespectful, everything is civil, and it's been ages since someone was banned, let alone given warning points about anything. It's been calm and peaceful here.

Now if you want us to not "wait for it to get too far" we could gladly handle that

Lol this was "bad"? This seems like normal conversation to me.

And btw, it's not Turtle's or any other mod's job to chase down someone because they are annoying you. They are here to keep the site in order.

There was nothing wrong with ATH posted at all

Folks be getting triggered over talking about train cars. ????????????

You're preaching to the choir there bruh lol

  11. What was that? [emoji349]

Another perfect example of not thinking before you post.

That pencil in square icon to the right? Clip your quotes better and get back to me when you've got it figured out.

You DO realize I've muted you right? I won't stand for abusive people or commentary, online or off.

    Stop backseat moderating
  12. They do that for ease of maintenance. Its happened over the decades thru generations of cars. Its nothing new. (Arnines, Redbirds, 32s-38s, 40s-42s, 44s-46s, 62s-68s(the New Car Fleet), etc. And the 179s are the last of the NTT fleet. Next is the "next gen" with the 211s

    THIS
  13. SEPTAs 2003-2004 D40LFs. 55xx-58xx, how do those buses roar like that?!? Those are the only D40s that sound like that ever. I love Xcelsiors, but I hate the fact that hybrid Xcelsiors are gonna replace those. Wish some modern day diesel buses could have that sound. The MTA Prevost are loud, but these new local buses are too quiet.

Most of then were repowered to a Cummins ISL engine after being overhauled, and they have wide exhaust pipes
