  1. This reminds me of a funny story. So they closed off a car on the (7) line. We were heading toward TSQ. The real trouble happened when we got to Junction Blvd. Whoever was closing down the car forgot to lock the other side as well. So the doors opened on that side since it's an island platform station and until we got to 82nd st-jackson hgts, someone alerted the conductor and I don't think the conductor was in that car, otherwise she could unlock the cab door but she went around from the 6th car to the 4th car to unlock the storm door. The people in that car were straight chilling before they realized they were trapped in that car, so it makes you wonder why do they close off the cars? Caused quite a few delays that day and we made battery runs to the end of the line.

It's better to have a train with one car closed off, instead of an entire train out of service. Especially during the rush
  2. I got on an (A) local this AM at 59th Street where the doors to the third car didn't open. No one was in the car.

    I didn't think R46s had that capability.

None of our cars have that capability lol. One has to go to every door panel and individually lock (isolate) every door.

More than likely, something happened in that car (blood, vomit, a turd lol, etc) and instead of taking the entire train out of service, they just closed that car off and it'll be dealt with at the end of the line.

  3. What will be the numbers that the R211 will be assigned to both NYC Transit & the SIR?

It's wayyyyy to early to be thinking about numbers when we ding even know who's building them.

Would they really build a facility just for an order?? How long would construction on just that facility take? What happens to the facility after this order?

It can also serve as a parts and Rosie center afterwards
  4. Not really. the tracks are abandoned because City Hall station was part of that loop. 6 Trains might use it to change to northbound or vice versa but im not sure on that.

You can legally still ride through City Hall loop. Bowling Green loop on the other hand, is illegal
  5. Theoretically, what would need to happen for Jackie Gleason to get a few of Tuskegee's now spare D60HF's for the B9 shuttle extras that run from 59 Street (N)(R) to Bay Ridge?

The crowding is insane during the PM rush.

Diesel fuel not pumped from drums lol
  6. There is a redbird work car on a siding between the Staten Island Railway's Stapleton and Clifton stations.

Which number? I really want to see this.

RD344. Ex-R22 7441. It's used as their de-icer car, and has been there for years now.

Mm, would it kill them to use Flatlands at night? I forgot about ETC but right outside of SI these things are non-existent. Do people drive to St. George and take the ferry? or is MTA mainly collecting those fares.

Given the current setup of the WB B6/82 near Rockaway Pkwy, them using Glenwood in both directions would be a huge improvement. That backwards loop routing they take now is ridiculous, and it would stop the confusion at that stop on Flatlands/E. 96 St.

My only gripe with this SBS routing is that all the time it saved abandoning the backwards loop routing would all be negated sitting in Rockaway Pkwy traffic

  8. Where did the original IRT Second Avenue Elevated end/start?

It started at South Ferry. Went up Water St, Bowery, 1 Av, across 23 St to 2 Av and all the way up 2 Av with both local and express service.

    Stops were...

    -South Ferry (all)

    -Hanover Sq (all)

    -Fulton St (all)

    -Chatham Sq (all)

    -Canal St (local)

    -Grand St (local)

    -Rivington St (local)

    -1 St (local)

    -8 St (local)

    -14 St (all)

    -19 St (local)

    -23 St-1 Av(local)

    -34 St-2 Av (local)

    -42 St (all)

    -50 St (local)

    -57 St (local)

    -65 St (local)

    -72 St (local)

    -80 St (local)

    -86 St (all)

    -92 St (local)

    -99 St (local)

    -105 St (local)

    -111 St (local)

    -117 St (local)

  9. I just looking at the vanshnookenraggen subway map and was thinking of the original IRT line. There were no express stops between 72nd street and Union Square?

With the original layout of the system (we not gonna get into detail about the specifics lol) after 14 St-Union Sq was Grand Central on the (S) platform. After that was 72 St-Bway since Times Sq (at that tine) wasn't a huge hustle and bustle area like it is now. Tines Sq on the Shuttle platform was a local station.
  10. Why can't it be dynamic? There are no stops between the airport and 74th Street/Roosevelt Ave, why can't the B/O use the GCP when there is no traffic, and avoid it when there is traffic?

They almost always do that, even the M60 would. It depends on the day and how bad traffic is
  11.

Maintenance of the R32's is really expensive as time goes by. It's hard to find parts and trains keep breaking down, it's certainly expensive because MTA keeps putting money in to maintain them. 50 million I believe to maintain the aging fleet. You can't create custom solutions with something that old. You need to install new hardware.

    That's not completely true.

Since the R32s are of the SMEE family, many parts are shared with other cars (a big advantage), plus there's parts from 32s that were reefed that they saved.

And with the museum cars, many parts are made in-house
