  1. All nice buses? If they don't? How exactly would "everyone" hold nice to that? I think there are far more pressing issues that riders and taxpayers should hold nice if thedecided to hold nice to if they decided too hold nice to something. Also it's a wrap or paint, it's not a main concern for nice to worry about, The wrap/paint is not what gets people to work and school.
  2. I know NOTHING mechanical about anything (lol) but when I've heard what you've described I've always thought it was the B/O keeping his lightly on the accelerator to either to keep the bus from stalling out or build up air (or to keep air built up). I thought about the air because I remember older B/O's doing this and then one day I was on a bus with a newer B/O, She stopped to pick someone up and was chatting, where other bus drivers would rev the engine she did not and I heard a beeping alarm sound. She tried to go but the bus wouldn't go, she then had to rev the engine for about a half of minute, beeping stopped and she was able to go. Low air warning? That would explain the beeping and her being unable to go, and then rev'ing the engine to build up air... A lot of things on these buses run on air so I would assume that makes the chance greater of air leaking out somewhere through the system. I've noticed a lot of drivers rev'ing the engine on the V's, I was wondering if it's habbit?

  4. I only buy the MC at the station rarely, only when I forgot I have no money on my MC it's quicker to buy one at the window of the train station than to stand in line at the metrocard machine at penn station. Usually I just make sure I have enough money on my card when I swipe it at the subway when I'm leaving the city, if I don't have at least the minimum 1 fare I'll refill it penn before getting on the train. That works fine bcI go to the city, but when I had an internship in Nassau I had to stop at the train station once a week (and I didn't even take the train) to buy a MC. What a PIA that was!
  5. Don't lie to the kid nice only takes dollar bills so only bring lots of dollar bills. Not nessasry, I keep my metrocard in my wallet with other cards, but I make sure to stagger the black strips. If the last card has a strip to the left I'd put the metrocard strip to the right, I thought i was being paranoid doing that. Can't you buy a metrocard at a lot of deli's and at the deli/coffee shop in the station? I know you can at Freeport. Also you can buy a metrocatd at the window at any open station. There are also stationslike Babylon where they have quarter machines for parking. ...but maybe it's time the MTA offered metrocards in thier LIRR ticket machine (I mean the $4.50, $10, $20 card, not the ones they offer with a ticket).
  6. Could it have anything to do with holiday traffic? Maybe they were routed to get out of the mall as short or as quickly as possible bc of the traffic?
  7. Yes the order included buses to replace 1804 and 1808... As far as the demo buses concerned, I think CENTRO in the Syracuse area bought them. This was mentioned somewhere on these forums before, I don't remember where.
  8. The Dec 30th schedules still use the bus number 1492... I was hoping they would've used 1840 to represent the newest (first) buses delivered to Veolia, the only ones that came wearing the nice uniform that never wore the MTA or Nassau stripes.
  9. No. When did they redisign the frint of the schedule? When the changed service? The last time I saw a schedule it had drivers looking all happy and the cover said "your bus service is now called nice" or something like that. Now the cover has a screenshot of their of their website with Setzer on it. Then again I don't look at schedules that often, who does seriously? Why would anyone want to look at a schedule when they could look at the interactive system map at home on their computer or on their phone when they're out. Hmm odd, I dunno how many times I looked at that rendering and never noticed. I guess I did notice and I just don't remember it, It's been a long and busy year. Now that I'm bored though (LOL) I really do wonder why 1492, it seems odd that they would just pick a random number of 1492, it was chosen for a reason. I guess we'll never know, of well.
  10. Downloaded a schedule today and the number on the bus caught my eye. How odd,it's not like they did a photoshoot with a random bus and kept the number, they obviously put a number on that bus. Why 1452? the numbering doesn't even go with that model Orion. We also know now we'll never see that sort of number on a new Orion (unless they renumber the fleet). I really wonder why 1452? Maybe a special number for Veolia or whoever made the schedule?
  11. I don't care, I hope you were stranded on that corner for hours while you and pine power jerked each other off while bitching about Veolia.
  12. That's because the bus no longer goes that way, the bus no longer takes a right by the lay z boy store, and a left at the next block, stopping in front of King Kullen. NOw the bus just continues and takes the "exit" for Merrick Rd. at the Sunrise HWY/Merrick Rd. criss cross, I don't why MTA routed the bus that way, I always asked myself why the N4 went that way it's such a waste of time. You people aren't happy with any change nice makes, people bitch about time and buses being late, makes a good change that cost time in a problem intersection and now you complain that nice took away a stop. Really? lol
  13. The amusing thing is you people assume the people working customer service get this information to give out to people BEFORE they make the "announcement"!!!! lmao
  14. Yes, as Brett stated the contract is for 5 years with 5 year options ("extensions"), on January 1st 2013 there will be 4 years left on the contract. IMHO nice isn't going anywhere and will be here past the original 5 years, I'll put a $20 on the table saying Veolia will be in Nassau even after Mangano is out of office. Just to clarify "nice" is the new name of the Nassau County bus transit system, it is Nassau County's Veolia helped them create the brand to distance themselves from the MTA.
  15. Do you mean in general or after restoring storm related service?
  16. I think this had to do with the fact someone jumped in front of a train coming into 42nd st PABT... Felt the emergency brake come on coming into the station conductor(?) come on the PA and said "I think someone jumped in front of the train, that's why I pulled the emergency brake, the train operator is investigating." They updated us a few times that someone did in fact jump in front of the train, police were on the way to investigate and a supervisor was on the way to see if it was safe to let us out one of the cars that made it to the platform. I thought great how long will this take... They had us off the train in a about 10 min. We were let out the back door of either the first or second train chaotic scene of NYPD and FDNY working very close to where they let us out and NYPD trying to get the mob of people up the stairs cause people wanted to hang around and watch.. Who wants to see someone who got hit by a train? I don't! I was impressed with how fast they got him out, by the time I got to the top of the stairs I went to the left for the PABT as soon as I did that the NYPD started making people go to the right they came up the stairs with him on a back board and ran out of the station with him. I was surprised to see this listed as "someone needing medical attention" while yes he obviously needed medical attention whenever I heard that I always assumed it was more of someone having a heart attack on the train or something... I was also surprised not to see this in the news, in the impressively fast nature they got him out I was searching for a news article to see if he lived. Nothing to be found, I guess hurricane sandy takes precedence....
  17. I had a hunch but this closure is for the Funeral of a fallen Nassau County Police Officer.... If you're taking the n4 I'd heed nice's warning and expect delays on the n4. Traffic is going to be nasty in the area of the funeral, give yourself extra time.
  18. I'm really concerned about this, for Irene the MTA pretty much went off the grid I know subways trains were taken to storage facilities to protect against flooding. I was out of the area the day of the storm and days leading up to it so I don't know if LIB was operating? Was LIB operating? I'm afraid because they made such a big deal about Irene and turned out to be so minor compared to what the news was making it out to that people will not take this Hurricane seriously. Best case scenario (ok best case is it goes out to sea but the odds are against that) is major flooding all the way up to a hurricane with 70mph winds. Either we will get a direct hit and experience Hurricane force winds or it hit NJ the hardest and in that scenario the news says LI will get major flooding from the storm serge. This looks to be a very dangerous storm and IMHO NICE should suspend operations on Tuesday for the brunt of storm. It will be nasty nobody should be out. Most places will be closed and that's if there is no state of emergency issued restricting travel, there's no reason for buses to be running endangering drivers and supervisors lives and encouraging people out who shouldn't be out. Stock up on food and batteries! ***EDIT*** Why are they already planning on closing Merrick Rd and Merrick Ave?
  19. Up until the last day of LIB operating LIB RVC was a senior garage that only operated only Monday through Friday... Drivers only worked Monday through Friday, Saturday & Sunday were off (unless they signed up for overtime which was usually RR work) holidays were also off (unless the driver wanted to work for double time) I was wondering if Veolia also keeps RVC open Monday through Friday or if they have it open 7 days a week?
