    The only way fans are getting into these events is if they also have press credentials and that’s for a reason…

    they’re specifically PRESS events.

    I don’t see ridership as a huge concern either. The point is to retain and grow ridership, but that doesn’t necessarily mean appeasing them. They now have a 2 seat ride? So what? No sane person will drive or stop riding the subway because they suddenly have to transfer during their commute. This idea that ridership would drop as a result of de-interlining is insane, as people are generally drawn to higher frequency and reliability.

    Also, once CBTC, and eventually ATO, then potentially driverless takes over, which it should in the very far future, good luck running a legacy interlined system.

    Deinterlinging leads to more transfers and less service, specifically because the terminal capacity is not set up to deal with one corridor having only one line. WHICH WILL RSULT IN LOSS OF RIDERSHIP because people are NOT drawn to high frequency and reliability, they are drawn to convenience.

    It's the same mental triggers that cause items to be priced at $19.99 instead of $20.

    If their one seat ride switches to two seats, they will seek other means to travel, because they will perceive their trip as now being longer. And it will be, because the line's capacity is set by the teriminals and with the exception of 179... they just can't handle it. 

    Also happen to live on a live you pro-de-interliners love to give the short end of the stick to, so excuse me for not being on board with this nonsense. 

  3. The 211s are still listed as being tested on the Sea Beach the next three weekends on E3-4 according to the GOs.

     

    the basic trade off is mechanical complexity. A 10 car train of single cars needs 20 control stands and 40 Door controls. A 10 car R160 set has only 8 MDCs and 4 control stands. 

  4. There is currently no problem with lacking spare trains… because there aren’t enough people available to run them. 

     

    We’re still short hundreds of train operators and conductors. Hell, the current conductor’s list will be used at least until 2024, 8 years after the test was given. Just imagine that… like applying for a job on your first day of high school and starting the day you graduate college.

    We also had the C types, which are closer to the "Gangway" trains the 211Ts will be. They were rebuilt El cars.

    The D Types and other cars of it's era were articulated. That round spot is actually resting on the motor truck, taking the weight of both sides

    it’s a bad idea, I’m telling you…keep those cars in storage until the 211’s are in.

    The have not been training new hires on the older SMEES. I don’t even know what a Drum switch looks like, let alone how to set one.

     

    keeping them just doesn’t make sense when you run the risk of having a crew that doesn’t know how to run them.

    Not only are they still around… we’re still using them all the time. More than half of the R33WFs are still in service as work motors, for example.

    this isn’t just an overnight deal, ether. Unless there is a GO, then those spots are used over the weekend as well. Train parked in a spot on D3 or D4 tracks on Friday night might stay there till Monday 

    Our literal only immediate option would be to run full weekday service all the time. And with our current crew situation… that is impossible. Never mind a waste of resources and every other reason we would not do that.

    Reason 1: the other tracks have laid up trains on them.

    Reason 2: the only switch to send a Jamaica bound train onto the Manhattan bound express track is back at Roosvelt.

    Reason 3: Just because it's CBTC does not mean such a reverse move is even possible even if the other tracks weren't blocked. The wayside signals are still in place in many locations and they would interfere with this move against the normal flow of traffic.

    Sure, the MTA is is expecting a lot of people to possibly ask for the day off… but here’s the thing… they are not guaranteed it.

    At all.

    Veterans Day is a normal schedule for us.

    Would not surprise me.  Friday 11/11 is Veterans Day (mainly a school holiday) and I'm sure some staff who have kids had already asked for that day and the weekend off to do mini-vacations to take advantage of that.

    no they have not because they can not.

    No, seriously. You ask for your days off three weeks in advance, and for Veterans day, that's NEXT week. 

  12. I know one of the weekends coming up is a promotional test and a lot of the TOs I was talking to a week ago were taking it or worried too many crews would be short handed. Last Saturday I was working the N shuttle in Queens, and many of the TOs hade their noses in study material when not out on a run down to QBP.

    Define bad. A bad brake is one that doesn't work...
