CDTA:
It is believed Quill Depot meant Utica, not Nostrand on that one (that's what I went by based on what other posters did). I assumed such in my post and failed to note it.
Assuming I was wrong, my REVISED IRT portion in Brooklyn:
and terminate at Franklin Avenue, some service runs to Church Avenue, some service runs to President Street.
and terminate at Flatbush Avenue.
If there is insufficient terminal capacity for the to terminate at Flatbush, how are the supposed to terminate there? How in the world would the 2/3 reverse on a pair of tracks that has 30tph in each direction? How would the 2/3 terminate at Franklin?

A work train derailed.

What they mean is that some trains are shuttling between 86 and BB, while all others are going express north of 42 St.

Next:
There's a track fire at DeKalb Avenue, suspend and/or reroute the .
via Culver in both directions.
to Chambers St.
No trains between Canal St and Atlantic Av.
No trains between Astoria and Prospect Park.
No trains between Whitehall St and Atlantic Av. Additional trains operate north of Whitehall St to replace the M in Queens.
Shuttle runs between 36 St and Coney Island.

Loss of power along 4 Av south of 36 St. Reroute the
Note: 36 St itself has no power
Assuming this is an emergency change:
via Culver, both directions between West 4 St and Coney Island. A shuttle runs between Coney Island and 9 Av.
via Brighton Local. Runs through with the Q at Coney Island (yes, the track layout allows for this).
No service between Atlantic Av and 59 St.

It is mathematically impossible considering the system and the peak TPH. They cannot reroute all trains over the Lex when it happens...
Except they do, with no ridiculous delays.
NEXT
23 St/6 Av is impassable.

Next:
All northbound switches at 149th Street are set in favor of White Plains, and all southbound switches are set in favor of Lexington Avenue. Reroute the , , and .
Do not put all three on the Lex express, this is over 40 TPH and will cause insane delays. It's not possible, no matter what it may seem.
If it's impossible, then how come the MTA always does it when there's a problem on 7 Av, without the ridiculous delays you imply?

Anybody else wanna go for this? Make sure to also read extremely carefully and know the regular routes the travel before having your maps ready for these reroutes.
Next:Here's another complicated scenario. Have track maps ready.
Due to a power failure at 36th Street on the IND Queens Boulevard Line, the switches are stuck in the positions they were in when the outage occurred This affects all lines, as it is south and north of the station.
Southbound:
Queens Boulevard Express --> 63rd Street --> 6th Avenue Local
Queens Boulevard Express --> 53rd Street --> 8th Avenue Local
Queens Boulevard Local --> 53rd Street --> 8th Avenue Local
Queens Boulevard Local --> 63rd Street --> 6th Avenue Local -> 4th Avenue Local after Bridge
Northbound:
6th Avenue Local --> 63rd Street --> Queens Boulevard Express
8th Avenue Local --> 53rd Street --> Queens Boulevard Express
8th Avenue Local --> 53rd Street --> Queens Boulevard Local
4th Avenue Local before Bridge --> 6th Avenue Local --> 63rd Street --> Queens Boulevard Local
Reroute the , , , and .
This isn't very realistic, since a power outage at 36 St, Queens should not affect switches in Brooklyn. Also, how come 4 Av local trains can only run via 6 Av Local, while B and D trains can continue via 6 Av Exp (that's only one inconsistency, there are others)?
Despite that:
Trains run express south of 59 St.
Unaffected
Unaffected
Trains run via 8 Av in both directions between 5 Av/53 St and W 4 St.
Trains run via bridge, 6 Av, and 63 St.
NEXT
Because of a fire in a control tower, no switches can be moved along the Broadway Line between Queens/Queensboro Plaza and Atlantic Av, inclusive.

Due to the apparent issues with reading scenarios...
The switches in Homeball Alley are all set in favor of 207th Street. This means northbound and southbound. Reroute all affected trains.
Trains rerouted to 168 St.
Trains rerouted to terminate at Dyckman St. A shuttle runs between 145 St and 205 St.
The current state of the switches won't allow that.Yes it will - since the switches on the lower level cannot be set toward 207 St by definition, they remain functional as per the problem's conditions.

Due to a reconstruction project, both Manhattan-bound tracks are impassable at Hoyt St . Because this is a long-term change, the Brooklyn-bound express track has been reverse-signalled between Atlantic Av and Borough Hall.
Reroute: , provide alternative service on other lines

Anyone knows what went on today with the ? I was going southbound on a congested 4 Avenue express track and I caught a northbound leaving 36 Street on the express track at 5:41 pm.
Meanwhile, on my side of the tunnel, two trains managed to race past us from Pacific Street to 59 Street… no thanks to the train dispatcher and the in front of us.
The [Wally]horse will be back and kicking.
Police investigations at Atlantic Av and/or Dekalb Av.

Since this is a long-term change (I assume):
Trains run to New Lots Av.
Trains run local south of 34 St.
No trains south of 14 St.
NEXT
Due to a washout, the 63 St and 60 St tunnels are both impassable.

My belief is, you use what you have at your disposal at that point. In this case, if it means sending the over the Eastern Division to get to a point where people can switch back to the to finish their ride, then yes, I do that and people who get confused by it simply have to learn the hard way (as I did years ago): Sometimes, changes have to be made to keep the system running in the most efficient manner possible when something like what happened along the Fulton Street branch happens. The idea is to reduce the need for shuttle buses as much as possible and keep the system running as smoothly as possible. If people get confused, it is their fault for not paying attention and not keeping up-to-date, something people in my generation were and still are expected to do at all times.
If I were regularly riding like I had to back in the 1980s when I used to have to go all over Manhattan, I would always have full-bore alerts available and know as best possible what re-routes are taking place. That's the level I was expected to be at when I was younger and people who only look at their route and don't plan for alternate routes in case of problems simply will learn the hard way. My way rewards people who pay attention.
What about the tourists who barely understand English? Or those NYers who can't understand the 'riufghr ewfqwp ewfiwegfoq fwebyufgew' that constitutes an announcement in the R32s? Or those people who are not provided announcements at all?

Those are some drastic police investigations:
Trains run via the between Jay St and 34 St, then via the to 59 St. Trains stop at 155 and 163 St.
No trains between 168 St and High St.
Two service patterns operate:
- Jamaica Center to 34 St/Penn Station
- Jamaica Center to 57 St/7 Av via 63 St
Trains run via 53 St in both directions.
No trains between Essex St and Kosciuszko St.
No trains between 57 St/6 Av and Central Av. Trains run via 63 St.

The Joralemon St tunnels are impassable. Trains may use the crossover at Borough Hall and the loop at Bowling Green.
Duration of change: 5 years. Be creative and provide as many alternatives as possible.

Simple, everything just bypasses the station. The is suspended and the terminates at Grand Central
Got one based off of what happened yesterday...
Loss of power along the from Chambers St to Broadway Junction. Its the middle of rush hour and what do you do?
Note...Broadway Junction has power and so does World Trade Center
---Solution A, realistic---
Trains run in two sections:
207 St to Chambers St A/C platform and B'way Junction to Queens, both via local. Additional trains also operate between 207 St and 34 St, via express.
Suspended
---Solution B, creative---
Trains run in two sections:
207 St to Chambers St A/C platform and B'way Junction to Queens, via local.
After West 4 St, trains run via the M and J to B'way Junction, nonstop. This is announced to customers as "The next stop is B'way Junction. Take this train for stations beyond B'way Junction."

Interestingly, there does not appear to be a large gap in service at any time, even when the <A> is running. So when is the S suspended?

It's 8 cars, not 9.
And if the shuttle is suspended, what serves the counter-peak direction between Broad Channel and Rock Park?

Don't they usually avoid doing large GOs like that (no at all) during the holiday season?

Due to an unforeseeable situation, trains can run through the Coney Island station (and stop there as normal), but CAN NOT use it as a terminal. This affects the .
Trains run through and exchange with each other (e.g. becomes and vice versa). This was done in 2006 and the track layout is perfect for this, using Tracks 1 and 4 only.
Trains run in two sections: 205 St to Bay 50 St and Bay 50 St to Coney Island, as a single track shuttle. (see below)

You should visit. There are 2 lines and the terminal is 2 tracks. Given the headways involved, one track for turning each line around seems hard to work with.
The issue with Flatbush Av is that trains crawl in because of the lack of tail tracks. Or else how would Times Sq handle the 30+ tph the runs?

No service south of 34 St.

A free transfer should be made between Queensboro Plaza and Queens Plaza for and customers.
Of course, on-the-spot thinking has never been a strong point for the MTA.

You cannot compare a Railroads schedule with a Subway's Schedule... Both have its ups and downs with frequency & service.. MNCR has 4 tracks along Park Avenue outside of GCT, which there are a lot of trains and routes entering/exiting the station at different times..
What does confusing tourist have to do with this? Besides 34th Street / NYP also has SOME tourist lurking the station. And when you come out of ether the IRT or IND Penn Station, you have screens up. So wouldn't that confuse them as well?
I'd rather see screens up at Times Square platform at least have a screen. And if the tourist is confused, well let them be... Because a whole lot of them will be confused for anything around...
If I see a screen with departures, I expect said departures to be at the station, not a train ride away.
Maybe it's just me?

On another note, does anyone thing Times Square platform should have Screen boards listing Metro-North Departures? I think it would make sense. Most of the IRT riders are MNCR ones.
It would confuse the tourists, who would think that there is MNR at Times Square.

20tph can't reverse at Franklin with that amount of wrong-railing. And sending limited 2/3s to Nostrand Av will only cause extreme delays for the 4/5.
