I don't think they are coming back. Congestion pricing implementation seems like the perfect time to do an express bus redesign, and there hasn't been any news on them coming back.

The Queens redesign Proposed Final Plan was released around the time when congestion pricing was announced (so even the Queens express routes weren't adjusted for that). To me, at this point it makes sense to come back and do a separate citywide express bus redesign at some later point rather than scramble to analyze all express routes citywide at the last minute. (I agree that it should ideally happen before congestion pricing is implemented, but at this stage in the game, it's better not to rush things)

From reading the article, it seems like the NJT buses will only be cannabilized for parts, but will not run in service? Is that right?

Im glad to see that Samuelson is pushing for increased express bus service. No one internally at the MTA seems to have thought of that brilliant idea!

They did, but the amount of service they're adding is minimal. (It's like 1-2 trips on a handful of routes)

Also, it's not accurate that none of those routes go into Queens (the BM5 and X64 serve Queens).

They have a very customer-friendly website (they even mention the meetings of their advisory board at a pizza place in Downtown Wilkes-Barre). Apparently they were supposed to merge with COLTS (County of Lackawanna Transit Service), but the person in charge of COLTS said he didn't want "half the decisions being made by people from Luzerne County". Hopefully they're able to merge and keep the LCTA customer-friendly attitude. (Of course one of the major things I'd like to see in both counties is Sunday service).

Well, that "kinda" didn't take long. I'm also surprised that they kept the number "56"...thought it would be at least a new number like "8" or something. Anyways, looks like it will assist the 5 and again serve the Smithtown LIRR but "middays only"? Should at least be a 6 AM to 7 PM. That midday looks like it would be about 4 trips...maybe?

Maybe it's making midday usage out of a bus being used from the rush hour-only 110 Clipper or something like that.

@BM5 via Woodhaven And the sad thing is that there's other areas that are still left uncovered, that they could be using those resources towards, rather than throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the East End and still leaving people with long waits.

  5. @B35 via Church What are your thoughts on extending your proposed Hamilton Park #123 branch to Newport Mall (and running the resultant branch full-time)? And then turn the #86 into an Exchange Place - Union City route.

@BM5 via Woodhaven Yeah I would definitely agree with testing out a #119X (with the way you have it set up, it could also potentially take the Holland Tunnel if there were issues at the Lincoln Tunnel).

  6. So I found out there's a free shuttle to the Hopewell campus from the Stuyvesant-Prospect neighborhood: https://www.hopewelltwp.org/DocumentCenter/View/11739/TIPSMART-Guide-Mercer-Hospital-Listing-3323

I guess that's an alternative to taking the #608 to the last stop and walking along the highway, but it should be better-publicized, and in any case, the #608 should be extended there anyway (connections to/from the West Trenton SEPTA station, and to areas along State Street, not to mention the direct connection to the Trenton Transit Center).

The volume of ferry service does not justify every bus going there. There is an argument for more service in the summertime, but I would like to see the test case work.

It's a residential neighborhood. It should have service anyway. Plus it makes dispatching easier (if a bus is running late and the follower is catching up, you don't have to worry about if the late bus is ferry-bound or not)

    Um, what?

Meant to say 31 zones to Atlantic City, 18 zones to Toms River.

@553 Bridgeton Is there a different promotional fare for Newark vs. NYC or are they both the same price? I remember years ago, it was slightly cheaper for Newark vs. NYC.

On a side note they really need a full-time east-west route in that part of NJ (similar to the 317). Maybe an extension of the 836 to Trenton or something along those lines. I know it would be a long route, but especially for those not near rail lines (where you can transfer at Rahway) it would make travel through that area significantly easier.
