Hey, their site don't look half bad in my opinion. Infact, I think it looks better then the new MTA website. I rather thier old blue and white website.
Thats nice, but if you relied on NICE daily and needed to know when your bus wasn't going to show, and you didn't get your alert, then you wouldn't say they're doing a half bad job.

Someone in school was just blasting Who Says by Selena Gomez. Recognized it pretty fast.

Does the MTA allow this?
Nope. The is smart. Besides, the NICE site is not as intelligently coded as the site. There are glitches with some of the things. For example, you can create an account on the NICE site and sign up to get notifications by e-mail on routes you choose of service disruptions. I've been signed up since last year and I have yet to get a single notification. Again, NICE probably doesn't have the $$$ to spend on an expensive website.

What does that mean?
When a site is indexed publicly, you can go to any directory and view all the files and folders without needing links to each one of the files. On some sites that don't allow this, you'll get a "Forbidden" error. However, with NICE, if you visit the link below:
You can view the files and pages on their site.

"Long Island Bus" was never written on the transfer.
A transfer question: If I get on with a MetroCard and need a paper transfer for SCT, I can just ask for one and the same transfer pictured above will be released and be valid on SCT? Or is it a different procedure?
Yea, you give the transfer you get from NICE or Bus and you give that to the SCT operator when you board the bus and they put them somewhere.

Does NICE still use paper transfer metrocards that say MTA LIB? I got one in the summer when I forgot to put money on my metrocard and was surprised they were still around.
The transfers have the logo on them like this, but I don't think they ever had "Long Island Bus" written on them.

I wonder if NICE knows their site is being indexed publicly.

The NICE site doesn't show the last westbound of the day on Sundays (site, not PDF)

I also noticed that midday N48 service was restored!!!!!! N48 is no longer rush hour only.

Wait, N48 never had midday service since April 8th?
N48 from June schedule: http://www.nicebus.com/_meta/route_pdf/NICE-n48-49_MapSchedule.pdf
N48 schedule now: http://www.nicebus.com/_meta/Dec30pdfs/NICE-n48-49_Dec30Schedule.pdf
Good for you for believing the transit master.

Do they still use Orion V CNGs on weekends?
Yea, I'll see the occasional V on the weekend.

I was just thinking maybe the trading between depots has to do with the painting of the buses? A bus is taken to Mitchel Field to be painted and they send whatever Mitchel Field has at the time to replace the bus that was taken ...???
Could be, could be... there must be some sort of inconvenience of painting/wrapping the buses since they're all not in NICE livery after a year.

It's getting harder and harder to see:
1. Orion Vs
2. NGs that are still in LIB livery
3. Destination signs with a capital "N"

Brett, do the buses get annoyed when someone calls it the Norman J. Levy Transit Facility? Do the buses prefer Mitchel Field?
Brett, I know, I'm talking recently. Have you noticed this as well?
The odd thing is Levy is shorter and easier to say than Mitchel Field. For many drivers it wll always be Michel Field...
I think the buses look better with a depot sticker on them. But NICE doesn't care what the buses want because they took away the depot stickers.. BAD PEOPLE! Yea, I've noticed that, especially with Newsday, they tend to switch between the names often. NICE at the community meetings has always called it Mitchel Field from what I've seen. For me too, it will always be Mitchel Field.

Whenever I hear nice talk about Mitchel Field it seems the refer to it as the Norman J. Levy Transit Facility in news and press releases.
It really depends where you're looking and what you're talking about. The building itself and the older V CNGs recognize it as the Norman J. Levy Transit Facility because it was originally named after him. The NGs all had Mitchel Field stickers. When the started to consolidate things in Regional Bus Operations, the depot needed a shorter nickname to recognize its location, so they decided to use Mitchel Field because of the air field close by.

I'm surprised they still have depot stickers on the buses...
They're covered up, but what I meant was depot assignments don't mean anything. Buses are going in/out of both depots between both depots.

For some reason, I saw two 2011 NGs from MF on the 25. I was on 1824 headed north and I can't remember the number of the other one. I suppose that the arrival of the 3Gs is allowing MF to transfer some of those NGs to RVC.
Trading between depots is happening more often now, from what I've seen. I've seen 1800s in the high 30s that were originally sent to RVC on the n20. Those depot stickers mean nothing now.

The Q12 should not be merged with any route. Take that advice from someone who lives in the area. We had this conversation before and QJ got the thread locked, remember? People in Little Neck and Douglaston take cabs and car services to LGA. Theres a base for them at the Little Neck LIRR station where many are parked. An LGA route would not prove its usefulness from here. As for the extension to Great Neck area, that idea has also been spoken about before, but the probably wouldn't do it given NICE takes much of that service already, just does a crappy job.

No, I believe 1760 got into an accident during the beginning of NICE. You can see this video, 1760, last day of LIB, still has the stripe:
Yes, they need to take the Sleepy's ads off. Maybe with half the ad on there, they get half the revenue

Oh so that's what happened to 1760. So you want NICE to lose money?
Something is seriously wrong with the quoting feature. NICE isn't getting that much ad revenue as it is. A lot of the buses just have NICE service announcements and old BusTalk ads.

I saw 1833 last week or this week and It's still not wrapped.
The explaination for the white front is because the tried to put their new stripeless front just like the 1800s mainly 1801-1839. They did it on 1664.
The weird thing is I never ride the '09 NGs with the LED lighting inside (1760-1799), but every week a newly painted one will pop up on near a route I ride. The least NICE could do is remove the remains of the Sleepy's ad on the front.

Word.. those SLEEPY'S ads are quite old and annoying.

Best transit photograph from this month:
2010 NovaBus LFX
Taken with a Nikon D40, 55-200mm lens.
That is one beautiful bus! Do you know if that is wrap or paint on the bus?

I took 17:35 n21 Flushing #1726, which departed very late around 17:54. Do you know what I notice? By the front door, there was vintage photo of Jackie Gleason Bus #2969!!I know that driver, he's very friendly and was with LIB prior to NICE.
Wait, what? So there is some driver at NICE who brings a photo of 2969 with him every day and puts it at the front of bus? Why? How long has this been going on?
