  1. N88: WHAT IN RETARDED HELL?!!!

Am I the only one that sees chaos with the 88 going to Hempstead?

Anyways I dunno what will happen in that case, if it will stop in Freeport

Yes, its sort of an extended N40/41, but I have a feeling its gonna make LIMITED stops only like Hempstead, some other stops, Freeport and then head down to the beach. Expect those buses to be packed severely. I feel bad for you because I'll be on the N87, perfect link between the N20 and Jones Beach!
  2. 1856 on the N20 had working Clever Device announcements.  The door announcement is now "N20 to Flushing-Main Street via Northern Boulevard) and the stop announcements are apparently done by the same woman you hear when you request a stop

I found 1853 today on the n20 and decided to take it. Lucky for me, the announcements were on. The voice is certainly not the (MTA) voice or the old Clever Devices voice (which I like better). The volume on these announcements has been lowered and they show up on the LCD screen a bit longer before they're actually announced compared to the older 1800s.This new voice sounds a bit weird, but you can hear the door announcements in the video as well:

I was also using a camcorder for this video instead of my usual camera. The video looks better to me.

Thanks for the update. I'm gonna head out there soon then to see if I can catch it.
  4. Did you notice he said the buses are being "dry run"? That means that a new system is being tested. Hound can you verify that LIB used odometer based clever device announcements in the past? By the way thanks for the update, let us know how that gps based system works out.

Yes, I know how to read and I know to understand and define words.

  5.

The Clever Device works by satellite. Not by wheel rotation or any of the other assumptions that have been posted. The buses are currently being dry-run on all the routes for the new system that's being installed.

I KNEW IT! By the way, that's coming from a driver right there!
  6. NICE is having some type of public art exhibit at the Mitchel Field depot, showing a display of posters that were made by kids around Nassau County. Its on the first floor of the main part of the depot. Looks like they're finally starting to open up the facility in a more friendly way, unlike Long Island Bus who almost had me arrested for standing across the street, taking photos.

  7. I remember hearing that LIB stop announcements worked off of the odometer/wheel rotation

the vehicle tracking system (AVL) was GPS based and powered by the radio system

    has NICE changed this?

What is your basis for saying the announcements worked off the wheel rotations? How do you know they weren't powered by the GPS system on board the buses? That has been the subject of controversy for some time now. And whatever system was in place in Long Island Bus, NICE hasn't changed it?

  8. LMFAO!

Go to 511, say another region, choose the Hudson Valley/Catskills Region, then say Public Transportation, then say Delaware County. They give you a list of options, including NICE Bus. If you say NICE Bus, it redirects to NICE Bus (Long Island).

Guess that's why NICE wastes money on unecessary routes!

What does the redirect to NICE bus on 511 have to do with NICE wasting money on unnecessary routes?

#511 don't work for us because automated machine cannot understand what my mom or I say.

You can use the keypad you know?

  9. I don't know, I just don't think people around here would go for a subway extension. The noise, the people it brings, I don't think thats wanted. The LIRR has been enough for these people for years and there never really has been an outcry for more public transportation in addition to the Port Washington line.

  10. I stumbled upon a NICE driver's YouTube channel today, name: Michael Harris. Seems he worked under Long Island Bus and is still a driver for Nassau County. Anyway, you can see in his videos what the break room looks like at Mitchel Field:

Also, anyone ever get a front view of an Orion V on the N58? I think he was actually holding the phone to the wheel while driving.

NICE will make service adjustments on multiple routes Starting March 31st 2013. These adjustments will help improve on time performance and in many cases, offer more transfer opportunities.

PLEASE NOTE: The following schedules only take effect on March 31st, 2013

      n1   n24   n48/49

      n2/8   n25   n54/55

      n4   n27   n57/58

      n16/17   n31/32   n70/71/72

      n20/L/21   n40/41   n78/79

      n22/A/L/X   n43

      n23   n46/47

  12. Alright, using my other three bus simulators has become a hassle because they either crash, freeze, or don't work with my driving wheel because they're not the most well-built games. I started OMSI the other day, and for the love of god, couldn't figure out how to set up my Logitech Driving Force Pro GT wheel with it. I fiddled with the settings and I think the wheel is recognizable, but given I'm pretty new to the game, it doesn't work in-game and I don't think I've even figured out how to create a new game. I think I'm lost. Is anyone willing to help me set this thing up for the first time with noob instructions?

  13. Isn't the sole purpose of that portin for reverse commuting itself. Besides Hicksville is industrial, and has Jericho Quad, the offices at Hicksville, and other jobs. I understand that you have the Nassau Hub, but Hicksville is as industrial. That's a portion of NICE's ridership from Hicksville anyways, other than the LIRR riders.

Jamaica is a busier hub than Hicksville, so the busier buses are coming out of Jamaica in the morning and going to Jamaica in the evening. The amount of reverse commuting service that is in place does get some ridership, better than if it was still just the 78/79 to Mineola. Hicksville is a hub and does serve a lot or ridership, but not as much as Jamaica.

I always thought the N20 was worse, especially in between LIU and Old Westbury.  The non-stop portion doesn't help when these Orions have to struggle up and down hills.

I hate riding the N20. The only thing that route is good for is getting some ZZZs.

Yeah, east of Glen Cove Rd, it is a bit boring, but you get to see some nice forested areas and a horse farm.

  14. Rode 1749 on the N24 the whole way yesterday (16:20 dp Jamaica). Ridership east of RFM was very, very light. He even had to wait for time a couple of times.

Rush hours is where it's active, outside not as active. Sunday ridership is about 8 past RFM.

Well, that doesn't make much sense then? He said the bus left at 16:20 from Jamaica which is 4:20 pm. That means the bus was east of RFM by 5:30 pm, which is right into rush hour. I see no reason why there was light ridership on that N24, other that most of the people in the evening are heading into Jamaica and in the morning, are heading into Hicksville.
