  1. It been a long time since I last posted here. Here an update of my route

Gee those photos look familiar :P

  2. There are only 9 Orion V CNGs left at ECH, all on the scrap side. Eight of them are separated into two groups, with four in each group. There is another one (9865) in-between a bunch of other damaged buses.

The buses are placed in this order:

    DF (defective):

    713, 9980, 7235, 7252

    9918, 9934, 714, 9986

    Scrap:

    9865

It seems at this point the rumors of 9918 returning are all false. The bus is still in one piece though.

    9871, 9872 & 9967 are off property. A farewell to my favorite Orion V CNG (9967).

Also, all the storage bees at ECH are scrap. They will be moved to the scrap side eventually. The ones currently in service at ECH will stay there.

  3. Hey, it took the Q38 3.5 years just to provide some decent service when transferred to CP (so you'll probably have to wait that long...lol).

What are you talking about? The Q38 still has terrible OTP (on time performance) to this day.

  4. Why are the seats left inside the cabs of full-cab conversion R62As? If you're gonna get rid of passenger seats for operator comfort, might as well do it right.

The seats are not left inside the cab. That would be impossible since there isn't enough room.

let not forget how bad it is on the new Pelham 123 with John Travolta. In beginning it was at GC on the (7) and in the end they lay the direction of the train to Coney Island when we know that impossible. Also if you noticed in passenger area they used the R160 not the R142

They used an R62A as a prop for the "R142A". The car was #2079. It still has the fake blood stains inside the cab, but it's hard to see.

  5. I hear there's a bunch of C40LF's being loaned to LGA every day.

    Current Orion V CNG status:

9905 made it's way to LGA territory today on the Q18 in the morning.

9899 is reserved for LGA use from what I hear. I'm not sure if this is true or not.

9889 is back in service after an Oil leak.

9836 is either the one with the faulty engine or is reserved for use at Zerega for training.

9849 is OOS due to transmission issues.

I was told today that 9918 was spotted backing up in ECH depot. It then went from the scrap side to the storage side. A few guys worked on it, giving it a new door to the gas tank and new license plates. It then returned to the scrap side. This is all I heard; I'm going up to ECH tomorrow to see if this is true.

  6. Oh I seriously thought 9836 was retired because I haven't seen it since October on the Q19. So the 5 remaining buses are 9836, 9849, 9889,9899 and 9905. I heard 9874 had problems with its engine but what was the problem with 9871 when I rode that bus a few days before it went out of service it seemed fine?

Right now there are four buses remaining that could potentially go in service. 9889 is OOS until further notice. 9874 is a maintence bus, not quite sure what the exact purpose of that bus is in the depot.

9871 probably got retired since they didn't need it and it had a small problem. Of course now they need it, but it's too late since it's in the scrap lot, missing a few parts.

  7. What about 7833-7844? I thought it was 7845-7849

The numbers run in a pattern...so the last digit will always be the same since its 11 cars. You specifically, is counting as regular numbers but you have to count car 7833 as one. So this third set is 7833-7843. Look at the pattern.

    7811-7821

    7822-7832

    7833-7843.

The last digit is the same, the second to last digit is one up, when your talking about a whole set.

The cars on both ends of the 11-car train have the same last digit. 7844-7854 is the set after that.

  8. It really does feel weird to see LGA buses at Main Street (on the Q19).

Three out of the four Orion V CNG's were out today. 9899 and 9905 were on the Q65, and 9849 was on the Q66. 9836 was still in the depot from what I heard, and 9889 is in Lot C (OOS lot). I rode 9905 later in the day and the B/O was pretty fast! I heard a lot of ringer from that bus. I saw 9849 on the Q66 when riding what should have been an Orion V CNG, but was a C40LF (run 621 -- for those of you who look for Orion V CNGs, look for run 621 on the Q66, between 2:22 PM (Main St) and ~7:15 PM at Main St).

From what I hear, this is the story on 9889: The bus is OOS due to engine failure. I hear they have a replacement engine for the bus but they don't want to put it in since they don't want to fund a bus that should have already been retired. The thing is, CP needs those buses for service (9899 made it's way out today, even though it should have been in the depot, reserved for training at Zerega). The chances of seeing 9889 run again are low.

  9. I finally caught an R62A (6) train!

Also caught one of the few R160s installed with the FIND at Bergen St saying Church Ave bound G trains, usually it just says G.

I went to the SAS Info center, it was really interesting.

My abba, dad in Hebrew, told me a few days ago that on an R160 (F) he saw weird stantion poles. They started regularly from the top, then they curved out and branched into two poles, then they merged together and it was then regular to the floor.

    Random Questions:

What is the length of the bottom of the front door on the R32s?

What is on the left side of the cab for R160s?

Do you guys know any possible way to make a RFW for newer cars and so the conductor/train driver has enough space?

Sorry for bombarding you with tons of info.

    Happy new year!

    Using Tapatalk

I've only seen a few R160's with that FIND display.

Where is the SAS info center?

There's 10 R160 cars that have that. They are the highest numbered A-2 cars.

Yes: Make the cab bigger by extending it back into the car, like on the M4's on the Market-Frankford line in SEPTA.

  10. Might have something to do with the rest of Orion V CNG's retiring. I've only seen 9905 out on the Q25 and Q34.

9849 and 9905 are the only two that have been in service lately. 9836, 9889 and 9899 are NOT retired but are being used as training buses that go up to Zerega. If one day they are not training, it's a possibility that those other three could go out.

  11. I am not one to be quick to jump to conclusions myself but many are saying that they spotted 7811-7821 earlier today which is the set that almost went FUBAR with the previously busted compressor problem, no? And 7822-7832 was out there until the 12-9 occurred ( and I wish her a safe recovery). That is until another stated this set is also back in service.

So would expect two R188 sets to be out there at any given point.  One officially in revenue service, meaning expect to see it past 8PM and possibly running throughout the night for all we know, and the other set going through the rounds of its 30 day revenue service test meaning it will be out there between 7AM to 8PM only.

I rode the R188 twice myself yesterday (7811-7821). The train seemed to be having problems going Queens bound around 9:30 PM. At GCT and 46 St, right as the train was about to start moving it went BIE. The train started moving again right after, and the IC beep kept going off in the cabs between every other stop.

I hear there are now 4 sets of R62A on the (6) , even though I only have 35 cars listed. 1706-1710 is still on the (7) , I saw it twice yesterday. I hear the 5th set includes 2016-2020, but they're converting 2016 to a full cab (2020 already has one).

  12. Here is the latest R62A roster for the (1) / (6) / (7):

    (1) Line: 207 Street / 240 Street Yards
    Car Numbers: 1826-1830, 1841-1890, (1891-1895), 1896-1900, 2156-2190, (2191-2195), 2196-2205, (2206-2210), 2211-2475
Total Number of cars: 380 (-15 from borrowed sets)
Notes: 2191-2195 are on the (6) in place for 7226-7230 (R142A) to get converted into R188. 1891-1895 & 2206-2210 temporarily on the (7) due to car shortage. In turn, two R62 sets from the (3) are on the (1). R62 cars from the (3) in place for loss of R62A cars.

    (6)Line: Westchester Yard
    Car Numbers: 1706-1710, 1716-1720, 1721-1725, 1731-1735, 1741-1750, 1791-1795, 1831-1835, (2191-2195)
Total Number of cars: 45 (+5 from borrowed sets)
Notes: 2191-2195 temporarily on the (6) due to R142A getting converted into R188.

    (7) Line: Corona Yard
    Car Numbers: 1651-1705, 1711-1715, 1726-1730, 1735-1740, 1751-1790, 1796-1825, 1836-1840, (1891-1895) 1901-1908, 1910-1926, 1934, 1938-1939, 1942-1944, 1947-1949, 1954, 1957-1965, 1966-2155, (2206-2210)
Total Number of cars: 384 (+10 from borrowed sets)
Notes: 1917-1926 were originally on the (6), then (1) line in 2011. 1966-2155 are linked into 5-car sets, but with some sets half-cab on both ends and some sets full cab on the 0 or 5 end and half cab on the other (1 or 6) end. 1891-1895 & 2206-2210 temporarily on the (7) due to car shortage.

Correct me if there are any errors.
  13. I heard it failed twice before but that's not confirmed. I'm now thinking it could be since it's still going out on it's own schedule. I saw it on the <7> this morning at 7 am.

I wonder why they put a cab on the middle car as that cab is never used. It also brings me to the question, what if they turn the train around and the 6 and 5-car sets are on the wrong end (so that there is no cab where the board is)? Doesn't that mean they can't run the train?

It ends this sunday and yep if it passes then in January each week a new set will enter service on the  (7) . I just want to know if Westchester Yard will go back to Yellow Yard stickers or if Purple will represent the R62As on the  (6) now, Considering that all  (7) strip maps are off of all 5 sets of R62As on the  (6) and ,when a set gets swapped back it will get its strip maps taken out before re entering service on the  (6) .

They no longer use the stickers for yards. Note how the R62 still have stickers for the (4). Blue represents the (3) , Orange represents the (4) .

Also, 1795 has a missing sticker, but I don't think they're taking them off.

  14. Westchester Yard is likely out of room for holding anymore extra cars without giving something else up permanently.

Meanwhile the (7) is short... They should have just kept it over there.

(And before someone says they aren't, remember, they are still borrowing 1891-1895, and took 10 singles from the (1) ).
