  1. Speaking of which I noticed that they changed the rails on the A and C in the Cranberry Street tunnel. It sounds exactly like where they changed the rails past Jackson Heights on the E and F trains.

Those rails aren't new. What they do is use the rail grinder, which makes small grooves in the rails making that sound. It explains why the sound goes away after a while.

I missed an R68A (N) at 34 Street today going down. Didn't really care since I was planning on going uptown anyway.

  2. Whoever was the conductor on the (Q) that left Sheepshead Bay 5 minutes ago... What A Prick! Couldn't wait 10 seconds (literally) for the (B)

Earlier at Times Square I was on a (3) while a (1) was pulling into the station. 1 second after the doors opened on the (1) the doors closed on the (3), leaving everyone running for the (3) with the doors closed in their face. Everyone trying to catch that (3) was pissed, all shaking their heads. I'm surprised no one stuck their arm or leg into the door as if someone ran fast enough they could have made it. I guess some C/Rs really are a**holes.

I'd say about half of the R46 cars are SMSed. A few Jamaica sets are SMSed while most of Pitkin's are. It's going to suck when they touch 5681 and 5741 as both of them howl. They may be doing 5681 at the moment as I haven't seen it.

Hopefully they'll SMS the derailment sets and bring them back. Sucks 5636 won't whine anymore but at least it sounded good when it did.

  3. Same feeling you get when you're driving/on a train and then suddenly a big sound, and squealing + hard braking pretty much making you lean front with all that force....

It happened on the TOMC this year so I know... kind of.

For me I hear the "big sound" and I don't realize what happened until the train is grinding to a halt. I always get that adrenaline rush no matter what the incident is, especially after the (F) derailment I feel it.

To add to that, if you don't hear the compressor starting about 10 seconds after the BIE happens, then something is definitely wrong.

A little off topic to the quoted post, but when the (F) I was on derailed, it did stop pretty hard compared to the (E) I was on about a month later that went BIE before Grand Avenue. The (F) was going about 45-50 MPH while the (E) was going about 25. They both had the same stopping time (about 12 seconds). Shows how much the brakes on the R160 suck...

Anyways, I thought I was seeing things earlier when I pull into Church Avenue on an R46 (F) going uptown and there's an R142 from the (2) on the express track. The LCD sign closest to the back had a rollsign sticker pasted over it with the (1) route (Just like an R62A). I didn't see any cameras or movie prop around.

The day before I was on an R46 (R) going uptown at 57-7 when I see an R188 on the express track. It was the newest conversion set, 7251-7903-7260.

  4. I noticed that if you're on a southbound (N) train, the left hand side doors don't open after 14st-Union Square until Coney Island.

I rode an R68 on the (D) train today from 36st to Atlantic, and I was actually I bit scared at the speed. I saw the car speedometer and it said 51-52mph, and we were consistent from Prospect to Union St, I was a little nervous at the crazy bouncing and rocking and the trucks making all that rumbling and jerking, it really doesn't feel like that on the (N), just pure speed.

Unless the train pulls in on the left track, then the doors don't open until 86 Street.

That must really suck if you get something stuck in the door at Union Square and the train goes OOS at Coney Island on the left track...

  5. I saw R62A #1821 - #1825 / #1826 - #1830 today on the (1)... lil confusion anyway I have ... Then why is R62A #1831 - #1835 / #1836 - #1840 on the (6) at Westchester Yard... While R62A #1821 - #1825 / #1826 - #1830 at 240 street Yard on (1).... I maybe wrong that mean R62A #1831 - #1840 will be transferred to 240 Street Yard on (1) from Westchester Yard (6)..

1826-1830 was that one oddball that was never sent to the (7). Weird how 1821-1825 is now on the (1). The LEDs are pointless for that line.

  6. I'm going to fan today and get good rush hr pics before I post the train of silver colors (if I can make it on Sunday. I think I can.)

There is no Rush Hour on Saturdays... :P

Can't believe that the R38 is on the consist. Where is the train running again?

  7. Well wait and see...No one expected CP to do the 1 Shuttle, M shuttle and 7 Shuttle and look what happened.

I would think during Rush Hours they might have a few.

Plus they recently updated the signs with all the Shuttle codes. They even have the G Shuttle one that sa ys "via Manhattan Av" So you never know.

CP also did the (F) shuttle during the derailment but that was an emergency shuttle.

  8. Why are the R46 sets numbers like that? Idkk the fleet of the R46, but whenever I see a train, the four car set runs like 5640-5642-5643-5642. Why not in sequential order?

It's because the cab cars are  the even numbered cars and the blind cars are the   odd numbered. This actually makes sense as all the blind cars are odd numbered while the cab  cars are even numbered.

I understand  why they did this on the R46 and R68, but not the R68A since they have full-width cabs in each car.

  9. R160 announcement on (N)(Q) for Astoria Blvd and it said, "This is Astoria Blvd. Transfer is available to M60 Select Bus Service to LaGuardia Airport."

When I was on the (6) the other day at 125 Street, the announcement went off and instead of saying the above, it just went "ding - *door chime*". That means the program couldn't find the sound file :P

  10. Mega-foam if it stays in service through the yard to Brighton Beach. Avenue X, Coney Island, West 8 Street, Ocean Parkway, Brighton Beach

It doesn't. I believe it has to double back if it goes via the yard.

I just realized this now. Must have been interesting a few weeks ago when the (B) and (D) were going via Culver.
