Pics of new features added to the R211 in the reddit thread below, looks pretty cool

Interesting to note that 4130-4134 has these features on while 4135-4139 in the same consist doesn't. I rode 4139 last night and did not see the additional features displayed.

  2. (North)4114-4110 + 4125-4129(South) has returned to service, currently heading uptown to 207th at Broad Channel at 12PM.

    Edit: (Sorry for editing all the time, I often remember to add more info just after posting);

It just occured to me that 4125-4129 was previously linked with 4070-4075. This means an additional 5-car set has been returned to service, not a full 10-car train.

    Mechanical Problems

Smoke Condition, FDNY had to be called to the scene. This was told to me by someone else and I did not see that set running for the remainder of the day (nor any R-211 for that matter however being in the Rockaways all day they could have been sending them to Lefferts)

4130-4139 is OOS at this time.

Couple of notes to the first page update:

    * 3007 and 3048 at CP are still active. 3356 at Yonkers is active They only went through being repaired.

3431 at Eastchester -> retired from passenger service that was reflected from recent first page update but used for parts for the rest of their MCI fleet.

The bolded unit, 3695 had repairs that looked like it was removed in my fault. Although, parts were added for it to be back in-service. In this case, 3621 is retired (meant to clarify this unit). Just now, the farebox and OMNY are gone.

    * 3888: removed from passenger service but converted to a yard unit (transitioned to yard duty) at JFK (driver partition roped between the passenger walkway) . Its parked and is in indication (like an object) between the units needing/pending major repairs or is retired and the ones that are active and parked for the day or next day or so.

Wow, I just rode 3621 a few days ago then proceeded to just miss it deadheading along the Rockaway Flats. It looks like I caught this unit on its very last day of service. They're not hesitating at all to retire these first. I strongly suggest for those who can to make time to capture these buses NOW before they become too difficult to find in the next few weeks.

Also to note 3621 was one of 3 units remaining with the older slim-font signage. 3502 and 3506 remain.

So the r211 issue was resolved?

To confirm this, there are three R-211A trainsets in service as of today November 5:

    1. 4060-4069 (pilot set, never removed from service)

    2. 4130-4139 (8th and newest trainset to debut into service)

    3. 4070-4074 + 4125-4129 (first production set to return to service after receiving gearbox repairs)

The two above mentioned production sets returned to / debuted into service on Friday, November 3.

As for 4075-4124 these units are still being worked on and will return to service in the next coming weeks however are currently still OOS as of November 5.

I will also note while before there was previously an effort to keep the production sets away from running overnight as I would observe them returning to Pitkin after the evening, that both 4060-4069 and 4070-4074+4125-4129 ran all night last night. The announcement issue on 4060-4069 also seems to be cleared up as I witnessed it pass several times without any announcement issue. (I decided to stay out overnight and document the R46 on the Lefferts (S) while they're still out in force along with the extra hour last night and witnessed those R-211 sets out).

Not sure where to put this so here it goes.

Does the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey still have there Orion VIIs or have they all retired?

Just to answer this once and not go off topic after, yes most of their Orions remain in service. The units were to be all retired by recently implemented Proterras however they're still around as the Proterras have issues. (That's why JFK ordered a few D40LFs from another agency to fill in for when Proterras can't make service).

  7. I've just witnessed (North)4089-4085+4095-4099(South) Not in Service along Fulton Express going NB traveling at about 5MPH. One car has a SERIOUS flat wheel spot. Looks like the set is heading somewhere to be fixed.

Edit: Just got a video of it crawling past Nostrand. 4085 is the car with a severe flat wheel spot. I'm unsure of where it's heading to be fixed. If I had to guess where likely Coney.

  8. I happened to catch 4060-4069 earlier while taking advantage of getting some R46 (A) clips with the lack of R211s.

The automated announcements were going haywire skipping stops and playing announcements after the doors closed at each stop. By the time we got to Aqueduct North Conduit the train's display showed 80 Street next, then abruptly the entire announcement program went blank. Upon leaving Rockaway Blvd all the signs were off.

The R-160s notably had a similar issue with stop miscalibration during their first few years where announcements would not play upon opening the doors with the train thinking it's still several hundred feet behind. This still happens on occasion but I don't remember the glitches being this severe compared to what 4060-4069 was going through earlier.

I'm curious to know if this or a similar computer issue is what currently plagues the grounded R-211 sets.

Can confirm i saw it at high st around 5:30 today

This pair, specifically 6218 has a notably loud air brake release that sounds reminiscent of the Pre-GOH R-46 air brake. (That's unless they've fixed it since I last seen it on the (C) on August 28th)

  10. Now that R-211 sets are mixing up with each other keep an eye out for one appearing on the Rock Park (S) . While I'm not one to know what the official car assignments are, I will say judging based off observations of how quickly R-179s took over the (S) they'll be quick to use R-211s once available.

Regarding the Rock Park (S), the final R46 consist to run the line was around September 21st with 6018-6019-6021-6020. The line has been 100% R-179 since.

  11. 6182-6183-6185-6184 is currently in service on the (A) with LED lighting. (The list above notes this set last seen on July 5)

Edit: Additionally, 6086-6087-6089-6088 is also running along the (A) today with LED lighting.

SIR R211s are now being road tested at Broad Channel. Saw an Instagram post showing the sets out on the flats near the Rockaways.

Caught me off guard. I wish I was a little further south to catch this on the bridge over Jamaica Bay.

I saw a number of R46 Cs in service yesterday, but you know the weirdest thing?  I came down the stairs at Bway-Nassau and there was an R46 train with the LEDs flashing "M Nassau St. Line/Chambers St"  It pulled out before I could get to my phone for a pic.  It was the first two cars like that and it was otherwise a C train.  I went down there to catch an R211 but none came.  I didn't wait too long though, just 2 or 3 As in each direction before I gave up.  I had better things to do.

There is one R-46 trainset roaming around with the original Pre-2005 signage programs and you may have just seen that. When the R-46 first started appearing on the (Q) in 2019-2020 some cars were running around displaying "K WORLD TRADE CENTER" as that code was updated to "Q 96 ST / 2 AV". The code number for "M NASSAU ST LINE" is a digit off from the program for the C. The R-44s notably often featured this interesting signage during their time on the (C) in 2010.

If I'm not mistaken some original and interesting codes were removed from the latest update such as "X 21 ST QNSBRIDGE", "X WORLD TRADE CTR" or "T QUEENSBORO PLZ".

A while back I saved the list for all the R-46 sign codes from 2005. I must find that and take a look again.

    I spotted a few R46s on the (C) yesterday and the 1 R160.

It seems there are still R-46 in (C) service and the additional R-160s are filling in for previously missing runs. Ever since the R-160s returned the line has seen an increase of trains, showing up every 8 minutes. Before August 28 the (C) would show up around every 10-15 minutes with sometimes longer gaps.
