  1. Keep an eye out for possible moves throughout this weekend.

    • With the (M) only running to 57/6 there will be less trainsets in use.

    • These additional R-160s may be used for (J)(Z) service.

    • Additional R-179s may be sent to the (C) line;

    • An Instagram post by the MTA themselves states there will be a boost in (N)(R) service. While extra (R) service will be R-160s from (E)(F) as already discussed before it is inevitable the (N) will need trains from somewhere.

     • I witnessed 6072 within a full-length trainset deadheading Northbound passing Utica last night. There is a possibility that it may have been heading to Coney.

So, I intended to post this last night however my phone's battery didn't make it. As of posting this now there is one 8-car R160 along the (C) meaning there is certain to be a few trainsets moved around before Monday.

R179s didn't replace all the cars, all it did was create a spare factor shortage since the R32s that were supposed to stay retired hence the R46s going to the (C) instead of CI to increase their spare factor due to the  (Q) going to 96th and 2nd.

With the (M) using less trains after today until next year, there's a possibility of exactly that happening. There's supposed to be an increase in (N) service starting on Monday (August 28). A solid guess would be a few R-46 trainsets are to be transferred to Coney from Pitkin along with a few R-179s from the (J) . I wonder how many R-46 (C) will be on the road come Monday.

  3. Somewhat off topic but whoever is at Jay Street Tower today is calling Transit Police on anyone taking photos at the front of the Northbound platform. Just a heads up if anyone plans to catch the R211 there.

I will note that NYPD was present upstairs in the mezzanine and did not respond at all.

  4. On some R179 cars there is a second "ding / chime" when a manual P/A announcement is made, identical to the chimes on the M-7/A fleet. However recently it seems most of the cars that had this feature have been reverted back to the original single chime found on all other NTTs.

I do wonder how this happened for a while and it was interesting while it lasted but must have been frustrating for crews going to make an announcement and having to wait an additional ~5 seconds for the extra ding to play just to make an announcement.

    Probably out of Jamaica Yard.

There was a post on SubChat mentioning the use of ENY sets from the (M). This would make the most sense as the (M) is running fewer trains however ultimately we'll see what happens.

Edit: Had this tab open for quite a while before posting and the above posts made it before I did. I did not intend to repeat already posted information.

  6. 3030-3034 is currently laid up at Rockaway Park Yard signed as Not in Service. There's also a missing train within the rotation of (Sblue) shuttle trains out right now.

Edit: Another R-46 has filled in for the missing run. Looks like they're keeping the R179 laid up for now.

You might be right, but I do know for a fact that first set was linked with 4095-99 for burn in. Here’s the video if you missed out

Meant 4080-4084 + 4120-4124, my mistake. I was moreso thrown off seeing 41xxs on their own power. I guess this really is the best time to get R46 (A)(C) videos while they're still plentiful for now.

It's going to be a good while for the R46s to go

FHA just gave NY the green light for congestion pricing, Now all they have to do is vote on it and could start as early as next year. It wouldn't make sense to scrap anything that's currently in service until there's enough R211s where the (C) is full length and the (G) has more than enough cars to have longer trains.

Y'all gotta stop with this "The R46s need to go right now bullshit" The (MTA) caved and got rid of the R32s (Pandemic, crew shortages and lower ridership played a part besides complaints) I don't think it'll be a great idea to even retire any R46s. The issue with the R46s is just the lack of spares hence why their reliability took  a hit. R46s will eventually retire as more R211s are delivered overtime.

Also Since congestion pricing would likely pass, I would expect Option II to be approved.

Someone a while back posted an explanation noting that while it would have seemed logical to keep a small amount of R-32s for spare factor / contingency service, there is overall a greater effort required with having more train cars to service versus a smaller spare factor; Meaning equipment can be worked on + placed back into service quicker if there's overall less trainsets to maintain.

Also spotted an R-46 set along the A yesterday with new LED interior lighting (along with a bunch of R-68/As). Did not catch any numbers as it passed me going the other way, however quite interesting if more Pitkin's R-46 receive any type of upgrade with their foreseen retirement.

    #3568 retired from JFK

I physically rode this bus on the Q60 on January 9.

These OGs have been OOS since December:

3674 BP, Last Ran Dec 24

3769 BP, Last Ran Dec 29

3655 JFK, Last Ran Dec 28

3715 JFK, Last Ran Dec 22

Also 3581, 3594 and 3623 out of LGA haven't ran since last week before the new pick started. Possibly OOS? 3736 is still active and on the Q104 as of this post.

Interesting. Yeah I've only caught this glitch on the Lex lines since I use the (4)(5) to & from work. Don't know what it's about.

Here's another interesting story: sometime last week I hopped on an R142 (4) coming home from work ( I eventually switched to the (5) ) and this is what happened...  they played Jessica Ettinger's 'The Next Stop Is' & 'This Is' announcements, but that's not all: Right after the respective announcements played, it jumped to the 'Ding' sound (used to make manual announcements), followed by the 'Ding Dong' door chime sound; it would never play the whole station announcement.

Here is what it sounded like:

Jessica- 'This is a Brooklyn-Bound 4 express train, the next stop is'...(cuts off), 'ding' sound, then 'ding dong' door chime

Pretty weird and funny at the same time. When I switched to the (5), it played what is now the regular announcements, with Diane Thompson making all the 'Next Stop' & 'This Is' announcements.

It's always a guessing game as to what can happen day-to-day with MTA NYCT.

Not a glitch. Someone with a super deep low-pitched voice now makes the announcement for the out of system transfer to the F/Q at Lex/59 as the end of the announcement was changed to include "by using OMNY or your MetroCard". Thing is, the announcement is barely audible compared to the volume of most other pre-recorded announcements and is hard to hear on a crowded train, thus sounding a bit creepy to one who's never heard it before. (It surprises me there's no check to make sure every new announcement recorded can be clearly audibly heard inside the train car while crowded, as the few recent new transfer announcements using this guy's super deep pitched voice aren't exactly the most audible and understandable).

The other day I was on an R179 along the (J) that was for sure glitching with announcements, skipping parts and playing other parts super loud. Something like...

"This is Broadway Jun-AILABLE TO THE LONG ISLAND RAILROAD" (using caps to emphasize the loud announcement), skipping whole parts of the announcement.

Random thought about the (J) : I have noticed a good deal of redevelopment along most other subway lines in Queens, especially along the (7) and Queens Blvd, however find surprising that much of Jamaica Avenue between Cypress Hills and Jamaica is still mostly small family businesses with many signs and elements preserved from the past decades. I do understand the area specifically between 75th and Woodhaven is considered historic, although the entire Jamaica Avenue out to Van Wyck features many elements that are being erased or have been erased near other lines. Queens Blvd around Rego Park and Forest Hills is seeing several new notably tall buildings that will change the skyline and feel of the area. If anyone remembers Tower Diner by 65 Avenue, the entire block just got razed for yet another massive development. The Parking Lot across from Rego Center will soon have a 30-story "mixed use development" in is place and there's already an eyesore going up on the other side of 65th Ave (Rego Park area between 63 Drive and 67 Avenue, not 65 Street).

Did somebody in the Dept. of Buses deliberately set up the assignment so that 666 would end up at JG (where it could serve as bad luck and increase chances of a CNG explosion at the depot)?

Almost as bad as saying the 2015 XD40s need to stay at their depots so the numbers stay consecutive.

It's a bit ironic, as Orion V #666 was assigned to Stengel back in the day. (During it's final days, an op driving the unit commented to me on how well it ran).

Been waiting for 8888 to show up. 8888 was formerly an RTS at Ulmer Park, I remember seeing it in the depot in 2011 or 2012 and was retired within the weeks after.

  12. Current status of recently retired Bus Co. Orion OGs and the NGs sent in to replace them:

(Feel Free to correct anything wrong here)

I'll refresh this every week or so, or if someone else contributes and updates this that would be great (still would like to create a list of what remaining OGs are in service). Thought it would be easier to create one central list instead of looking thru many pages.

The final end of the OGs really has begun, now is some final chances to get content of them in service en masse before they become harder to find.

  13. There's an MCI on the Q38!!! I swear I just seen it travelling down 57 Ave toward Otis signed as Q38, although it wasn't on tracker and there was another regular C40 about 5m behind which was on tracker.

Of course, the phone I'm using decides to completely freeze when rushing to take a perfect shot. (Do phones that miss extremely rare shots deserve to be brutally beaten? I wish getting a new phone wasn't a consequence lol)

Perhaps someone can solve this, completely caught me off guard but this phone really had to violate like that. If I had to guess it was an OOS bus but why literally along the Q38 route signed as such? Not being on tracker is what has me thinking it wasn't real.
