Engines don't get removed in depots. You probably saw something elseThere is a D60hf sitting in WF depot with its engine block removed. Couldn't see the # from the Q44. I dont know what is gonna happen to this bus. Could this be the start of a possible retirement for the 2002-3 D60hfs or a small accident?

That happens a lot in the snowI was on 5987 (CS's XD60) yesterday, and when the bus pulled into the stop at John Bowne, the back wheel slide 2-3 feet towards the curb. But apparently no one on the bus noticed nor cared except for me.

They are "suppose" too. A couple years ago, when the 1200's were about a year old, a woman fell on her face after reaching for a rear stanchion that happened to break as she put her weight on it. She sued the MTA, and in turn, the MTA sued nova. From then on, broken or loose stanchions became what we call a "red item" on the monthly inspections (meaning, the bus can't return to service until the repair is made).A broken handle is the least of their worries...they won't take a bus out of service over a broken handle.

What is this bus used for? Only thing I can imagine it being used for is picking up parts. But every depot has a dedicated parts truck, so I'm confused.Yep, Is a mechanics bus. Looks good as hell too!

Do you need a driver's license for this job?

Maintenance has no control over what buses go where. Where buses are placed is more of a logistical decision. The bosses take into account how many different types of buses are at a specific depot, do the new buses share common parts with the buses currently at the depot, is there anything specific that maintenance personal need to be trained on before the buses arrive, and several other factors. The only people that have a direct say in which buses come to their depots are the bosses at Quill and ENY. Other than that, the MTA will make their decision based on several factors that can effect the safe and reliable operation of the buses in passenger service.I for one as an operator do not understand why the Maintenance division has so much control and say over what kinds of buses that the operator drives.
RTS is the one bus that the majority of operators try to avoid.
Although bus fans love it, we have to drive in uncomfortable positions, oddly shaped dangerous mirrors, rear loading wheelchair lifts, sometimes very poor defrosting fans, not to mention poor loading with passengers and most of those RTS' cannot kneel with a heavy load.
You will be stuck.
For all of those reasons mentioned, I find in inexplicable that the Maintenance dept turns away buses that benefit operators who have to drive them for 8 hours.
The most they do is test drive them .

Asking for a friend...what's the best bus tracking app for iPhone? I use bus tracker+ because I like to see the location of each bus in real time, but I'm an android user. He couldn't find in in the app store. Thanks in advance

They haven't been able to fuel a diesel bus for a couple years now. The only diesel they get goes into a 55 gal drums and is used to fuel the forklifts and the ride-on sweepers/scrubbers.Where did you hear that JG can't fuel diesel buses? That's 100% false.

They have to have a battery conditioner, IVN package set up, an area where a fall protection cable with harnesses are set up so the roof/battery tubs can be accessed, and all of the rest of the miscellaneous tools and equipment needed to service the hybrid drive componentsQuestion: What are the requirements for a certain depot that can use hybrid buses?
(example: Eastchester Depot, and Flatbush Depot in the past before the NGs were delivered)

Will the current and incoming express busses get the new livery?

Started playing "tom clancy's: the division" recently, just noticed that they have a representation of MJQ depot in the game. Building looks the same on the outside, but the inside looks more like a bus station than a bus depot.

New buses are not going to change the people that ride themOnly been there for a couple of days and the days and the XD60s are already getting dirtied up a little bit. A sandwich left on 5394 on the Q113 today.

If these newly wrapped buses will be running out of jfk depot, why was the launching event held at MJQ?

I know that in staten island, employees have passes that actually work in the farebox of the express buses. Will that be expanded system wide?Yes they will have the same fareboxes and be on the same radio system as well. As far as the rest of the details we will have to wait and see. Buses will be able to be loaned much more easy as they will have common systems. BC can already do subway shuttles, and have in the past, however, TA handles them for all general purposes. Things could change in the future.
However, if BC is not integrated in any way other than a systematic surface merger, we may continue to see separate bus orders, and such.
From what I understand they could get the same color, however if it remains green, it will still work with all NYCT bus and subways anyway. Rumor has it railroads will now be included.

Will mtab get the same color passes as OA/TA? Will the pass numbers stay the same?Merger Updates Effective April 26, 2016.
MTA has officially acellerated the sytematic merger. Originally, MTA made plans to have the new Bus Command Center and radio system in place before introduction of a unified farebox system for NYCT and MTAB.
New plans call for introduction of mobile ticketing that we can use on our smartphones in June of next year when the summer pick begins. Plans call for tickets to be able to be purchased prior to boarding and New York City Bus or Subway. It is said to be very similar to and called eTix thats is in it's pilot phase on select MTA Railroad lines. More details will be available in the coming months.
The new "tap" contactless payment system will now be pushed forward from 2020, to June 2018. With this new system we will be able to use our phones, debit/credit cars with chips, or the new MTA SmartCard.
Effective immediately, New York City Bus will be the branding for all of surface transit in the future. Buses will no longer wear titles however, and will only feature the MTA logo. For legal purposes the official names the divisions will remain and fall under MTA Bus Operations, which will comprise of Department of Buses TA/OA, and Bus Company. BC will offcially become the new OA for all general purposes. Bus Company HQ will be relocated to East New York Depot
All New York City Subway and Bus (NYCT/BusCo) personnel will receive new MTA SmartIDCards.
This will now directly line up with the introduction of the new dispatch, command, and radio projects.

Don't think it is, but being an employee and knowing people on "the buy" i think i could get in.Is that open to public like the Auto Show? I'd love to go if it ever came to NY.

Any depot with lead acid battery equipped hybrids have battery conditioners. So to narrow down the list of depots that could get the hybrids, what depots do have battery chargers?
0 -
I can't imagine that happening. The buses will go to whatever depot they are suppose to stay at and they will be repaired and returned to service there just like last time5517-5518, 5677-5678 JFK to ECH storage; from what I understand those units are gonna be checked on and fixed up before returning to NYCT.
