  1. Again I never heard ENY depot can capable to do maintenance on MCI.. Only 2 depot Central maintenance facility ( CMF ) can capable to do maintenance is TA/ that Grand Avenue Depot & OA/ Zerega Avenue Depot... OA / Zerega Avenue Depot ( CMF ) is the best depot can capable to do maintenance on MCI D4500 . Not ENY depot... Mostly Zerega Avenue Depot do handle all OA/ MaBSTOA bus depot...

The old ENY Base Shop that was abandoned by TA when Grand Ave opened, is serving as the CMF for MTA Bus. They do almost everything that Grand ave does.
  2. lol... I don't see how the color makes any difference, esp. yellow. Black I could understand since black doesn't reflect the suns' rays, but rather attracts them. Aren't they made of the same material?

The orange flags have a higher melting temperature than the yellow had.
  3. What are those orange things on the hubcaps for? I notice that before they were a different color... Seems as if they want them to stand out for whatever reason.

The loose lug nut indicators, or "flags", do exactly what the name says. They inform drivers and maintenance when a wheel lug has loosened prematurely. They are installed on a wheel after a bus has traveled at least 100 miles and after the lug nuts are re-torqued. There use to be 2 different colors (yellow and orange). The yellow flags were for S-cam brake systems in which the wheel temperature did get as high as the wedge brake systems. Orange was for wedge brake systems and on some buses, the drive axle.
  4. Why can't all the unions be the same? Why is there Mabstoa and MTA bus and nyct, and atu, twu, and all those different unions. Why can't it just be under one roof?

It was designed like that from the beginning. As long as we are fighting each other over stupid union politics, we are not banding together fighting "the man".

Sorry for the crappy quality (as I was driving by when I took the pic) but 3000 (last on right) is parked tonight in Northeastern Bus Rebuilders' Deer Park lot. This bus wasn't there when I drove by on Friday (a couple of SCT buses, (MTA) 3329 and an unidentified bus with heavy damage wrapped in a tarp).,I passed turned around and took a pic as I passed, the damage is looks much worse in person, my first reaction was "f--k, what did you hit? A quick search here revealed the accident with the garbage truck.... As you might be able to make out in the pic the windshield is broken, front bashed in (not too bad), with damage to the fenders, passenger door, and mirror. I assume the bus was towed (or put on a lowboy) to Deer Park?

Anyone know how hard the bus was going when it hit the garbage truck? A tank? Yes, but it still looks like a pretty hard hit (20-30mph, not a tap lol) the pic doesn't do the damage justice.

Zerega must be really backed up for them to have sourced that out. I've watched them fix way worse. With grand ave, its understandable because they don't have a parking lot and there is only 1 accident repair bay.
  6. And why are we brats exactly? Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk

I don't know about you personally, but I feel that the kids in this younger generation (high school age) have a false sense on entitlement. They want the world without having to work for it...
  7. my uncle used to work for the ta as a b/o in staten island and that's what he told me regarding why they cant take artics in SI.

No disrespect to your uncle, but bus drivers are not always the best source of information. Its like a huge game of telephone with them. 1 of them might have the correct information at first. But by the time it filters down to the rest of the operators, its a completely different story.
  8. How the f**k are the Xcelsiors in such bad shape but the C40LFs are in great shape?

The C40's that we have are from a tried and true design. I believe not a lot has changed in the suspension geometry or the structure of the bus since it was first manufactured. Similar to the situation with the RTS and its longevity through the years.

there will be no new depot. They will send the inhabitants of 126th to either MCH when it reopens, or they will send them to 100 street. 100 street will be sent to MCH in the latter scenario. There will be a luxury condominium building erected where the depot stands. The lot across the street is suppose to become some kind of cultural center. And I don't know what will happen with the lot across from the car dealership. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk

Are you sure that MTA is not going to rebuilt the 126 St depot? There is funding to demolish, design and build at the current site of 126 St Depot. Similar situation at MCH, except it wasn't a smooth planning.

I was told by the VP of TWU Local 100 TA Surface that the depot will not be rebuilt

So where will the new depot be and what will happen with the sold space??

  11. So.....once 126th closes, that it. No more 126 street depot, just found this out a couple hours ago

I still think they should move the depot to that lot across the street and build it there...

Don't they also have a smaller lot behind the car dealership? I know MTA Bus used to park their buses there in between rush hours, dunno if they still do it now

Is that the reason 126 never got renamed? I've notice the MTA doesn't like numbered depots and I know Jackie Gleason was called 5th Ave Depot.

I had suspicion that it would be renamed once it was rebuilt. But that was when I still believed the depot would be rebuilt
