Fire on the Throgs Neck Bridge

LRG

Recommended Posts

A fire on the Throgs Neck Bridge has ordered for it's immediate closure for the time being. This has also resulted in the closing of the Cross Island Parkway from the LIE to the Bridge and the entire Clearview Expressway has been shut down. Drivers will have to find another route to get to the Bronx but it is highly NOT recommended to use the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge as traffic is already bad enough.

I can only wonder how long this will last and how hectic this'll be. Thank goodness I take the subway....

July 10, 9:26AM

The Throgs Neck Bridge continues to be closed in both directions due to a fire on scaffolding under the bridge where contractors were working this morning. No reports of injuries. The Fire Department is on the scene along with engineers. There is currently no estimate of when the bridge might reopen. That will be a decision made by the Fire Department and engineers on the scene. Traffic is being diverted to the Bronx Whitestone and RFK Bridges.

Still closed, must have been pretty serious.

THROGS NECK SOUTHBOUND ROADWAY REOPENED TO TRAFFIC

NORTHBOUND REMAINS CLOSED AS A RESULT OF FIRE

All three southbound lanes at the Throgs Neck Bridge (Bronx to Queens) were reopened at 1 PM today. The northbound roadway remains closed while MTA Bridges and Tunnels Engineering, Operations and Health & Safety personnel continue to assess the situation following this morning’s fire beneath the northbound roadway.

Better safe than sorry anyday! Still, if that bridge is closed for the evening rush, gonna be pandemonium.
