Trainspotter Posted December 9, 2007 Share #1 Posted December 9, 2007 Drivers for disabled say strike likely After stalled contract talks, the drivers and mechanics of four paratransit companies are expected to begin striking Monday, disrupting service for about 7,000 elderly and disabled passengers around the city. The four companies provide about 50 percent of Access-A-Ride service and employ about 1,600 people. Another 10 companies not involved in the contract dispute will continue to operate. DOB2RTO Posted December 10, 2007 Share #4 Posted December 10, 2007 And hope most elevators at subway stations are working. Nope. I'd rather they get stuck in them, so they can't get to the buses

DOB2RTO Posted December 11, 2007 Share #7 Posted December 11, 2007 So them disabled people are that bad to deal with on city buses? During the rush hour on lines that get packed, absolutely. Alot are bums in wheelchairs. I had one today, who fell asleep on the way from B'way to Third Ave. He is always out overnight, and he is a frequent non paying customer, even though his pockets are LOADED. His right leg is awkwardly curved, like a cheese doodle. This man will actually hop up steps with his wheelchair, in a building adjacent to the bus stop at B'way. If they were forced to pay the bus fare, they would use Access-A-Ride alot more often.
