Trainspotter 0 Posted March 4, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 4, 2008 2nd Av. 2nd Thoughts The MTA will re-evaluate a planned entrance to the Second Avenue subway slated for East 72nd Street in the wake of two lawsuits filed by area residents, their lawyer said yesterday. In suits filed last month, four co-ops are seeking to have the entrance, now set to be built between First and Second avenues, moved to a corner or scaled down. The residents also want the MTA to redo an environmental review. "Before we make any final determination to proceed with an entrance . . . we will complete the additional evaluations," agency lawyer Anthony Semancik told a community meeting last night. The project would "change the lifestyle of the people who live there," said Susan Chandler, who lives in one of the buildings affected. Robert Bosco 0 Posted March 4, 2008 Share #2 Posted March 4, 2008 You know what..enough with the damn 2nd Ave subway....if it was meant to be, it would have been built already. This whole thing is a mess. The should have focused on building more lines out in rural areas of queens.
R32 3348 11 Posted March 4, 2008 Share #3 Posted March 4, 2008 They really need to build this. Situations along the Lexington Avenue Line are about to get dangerous with the crowding.
Pablo M 201 35 Posted March 4, 2008 Share #4 Posted March 4, 2008 *sigh Here we go again. Alright, so we have a few people filing lawsuits against the MTA. Now, question is if they want SAS. If they really want it, they would let the MTA get to it and get it finish. This needs to be done and needs to be done ASAP. This can't be holded off every once in a while. I agree the MTA needs to do environmental reviews, but they should be thinking of that in the first place. Every time they hold SAS off for abit, it costs the MTA money and gives them more reason to hike up the fare. Also, the MTA needs to reconsider certain things so that it wouldn't come out too expensive. They need to think simplicity because they're building a line and not just one station. sebbieprops 0 Posted March 9, 2008 Share #5 Posted March 9, 2008 With all this bureaucracy and litigation, we're probably not going to see the opening of the line until 2025.
