So I really don't see why this is still a courtesy when it doesn't even mean anything anymore. I heard that also. Is it possible to sneeze and have your eyes open? I tried but failed. I did that throughout elementary school... kids kept asking me how/why did I sneeze with my eyes open.... it wasn't something I was trying to do... at that age, I thought it was perfectly normal...... that is, of course, when my sneezes started getting more violent as I aged... then I started sneezing "normally"....
