With the door switches on the outside, where does the conductor stand in between stations? I cant imagine hanging out on that ledge is safe when the train goes thru a turn.

He/She comes down, so I guess he/she waits in one of the cars and then stands in between to open the doors when the train comes into a station.

He comes inside and rehooks the chains after having observed the platform for a safe distance once the train has started to move.

 

He then unhooks the chains and goes out there again when the train begins to enter the next station.

The C/R comes back into the car and walks around to ensure the safety of the passngers in both cars. The C/R is not permitted to enter either cab near his position except to store items. While not at his position, the C/R was to remaine visable to the passengers.
