Shortline Bus Posted September 11, 2011 Author Share #102 Posted September 11, 2011 Just found out this old radio newscast from 40 years ago this month in Sept. 2011. This was taped just days after the Attica riots. Other headlines of this broadcast include Pres. Nixon announcement he will visit China early in 1972(making him the 1st US President ever to visit the planet's most populated country)and local NYS lawmakers pleading for the new Amtrak national rail service to restore NYC-Montreal service. Shortline Bus Posted September 23, 2011 Author Share #106 Posted September 23, 2011 20 years ago this weekend (sept. 24, 1991 to be exact) a music album by a then unknown rock band from Seattle would become one of the most popular in history of the rock genre. It would define a new generation of so called alternative or underground rock called Grunge . It is Niravana "nevermind' featuring this all time classic alternative rock singles. Just like Dr. Dre would define the gangsta rap era of the '90's discovering artists Snoop Dogg and 2pac, this Niravana sound would also define the landscape of pop music of the 1990's. Although aspects of Grunge is still around in 2011, the Niravana popularity ended soon after the death of Kurt Corbin in 1994. 1)Smells like teen spriit 2)Come as you are

Shortline Bus Posted October 2, 2011 Author Share #109 Posted October 2, 2011 50 years ago yesterday on October 1, 1961 Roger Maris broke Babe Ruth's single season HR record. Here the oringal unedited live broadcast from WPIX-TV Ch.11 (yes kiddies until about 1997 they were the tv home of the Yankees going back to pre-cable)with Hall of Famer announcers Red Barber and Mel Allen. Phil Rizzuto then a fairly 'new' commentator/analyst called this histroic game on the radio. And a message to Bud Selig. Dammit wipe out McGuire/Bonds HR records and restore the season and all time HR records to both Mr. Maris and Mr. Aaron.
Shortline Bus Posted October 9, 2011 Author Share #110 Posted October 9, 2011 40 years ago this fall, two landmark movied filmed most of the production in NYC opened. On October 9, 1971, "French Connection" opened and would go on to best Oscar as movie of the year for 1971. Meanwhile a few weeks later, "Shaft' with IMO one of the best movie music soundtracks ever, would forever helped slam down the door for Black actors starring in a worldwide smash hit in an action-drama flick. "Shaft" was in a sense the "Jackie Robinson" of movies as it helped to end the 'jim crow' in Hollywood for Afro-Americans which basically let them in the entertainment biz. So here you go guys. 1)"Shaft" 2)"French Connection" Oscar winner best film of 1971

Shortline Bus Posted October 13, 2011 Author Share #113 Posted October 13, 2011 On October 12, 1957, the first modern 'infomerical' (the genre in 1957 was not named yet)was broadcasted on CBS. The "Edsel" show featuring the Ford Edsel starred Bing Crosby and some of America's best known entertainers debuted for a 1-time live show. The show itself although a ratings smash was considered a failure since the Edsel was probably the biggest failure in the auto world history. However most tv historians and 'experts' state that the biggest impact of that "Edsel" special is that informericals was born on that night. So folks the infomerical was born on that date. Now some trivia to tell friends at work and school lol.

This coming Tuesday (11/22/86), Mike Tyson won the heavyweight title from Trevor Berbick. At his prime was among the most feared boxers of all time won the heavyweight title. Shortline Bus Posted December 2, 2011 Author Share #122 Posted December 2, 2011 30 Years Ago this week a #1 song which would become one of the biggest hits of the decade of the 1980's was on top of the US charts. "Physical" By Olivia Newton John best known as the co-star of the now legendary film "Grease" had this classic song. Not only it was the first major music video that debuted on then 'new' MTV channel to hit #1. It would also become a symbol that to this day began the international physical fitness movement. Not to mention "Physical" also had some controversy with it's sexual overtones in the song as well. So here it is boys and girls a song that was a worldwide a hit. It was to the 1980's symbol physical fitness and sexyness as much as say Chubby Checked did in the early 1960's to the "twist." Enjoy.
