3rd Avenue El Posted March 28, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 28, 2011 i just saw the delays on the long island railroad and heard from my newly bought scanner that a person had been struck by a train. the following is all the info the mta is releasing at the moment LIRR service on the Babylon and Montauk branches is experiencing eastbound delays of 30 to 40 minutes due to an unauthorized person on the tracks being struck by a train at Bellmore. LIRR westbound Babylon Branch service has been temporarily suspended due to an unauthorized person on the tracks being struck by a train at Bellmore. it must be really serious to have so many delays on almost all the branches. Joel Up Front Posted March 29, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 29, 2011 It keeps happening closer and closer. I remember the first time I had a train delayed because of an accident it was in Massapequa Park.
Vistausss Posted March 29, 2011 Share #3 Posted March 29, 2011 "it must be really serious to have so many delays on almost all the branches." All? These are only 2 branches. Ontopic: this is really, really bad.

Joel Up Front Posted March 29, 2011 Share #5 Posted March 29, 2011 The Babylon Branch is part of the Montauk Branch. It's called the Montauk outside of electrified territory.
gregorygrice Posted March 30, 2011 Share #6 Posted March 30, 2011 Yup, The Babylon has the most strikes so far, just stations away from each other! This is the 7th person of the year for LIRR. Record setting!
Joel Up Front Posted March 30, 2011 Share #7 Posted March 30, 2011 They seem to happen mid-afternoon, too. All these rail fatalities (subway included)... why are they happening more than usual? Or at all?
R42 M Train Posted April 1, 2011 Share #8 Posted April 1, 2011 They seem to happen mid-afternoon, too. All these rail fatalities (subway included)... why are they happening more than usual? Or at all? People have been getting stupider or more suicidal.
Joel Up Front Posted April 1, 2011 Share #9 Posted April 1, 2011 There's also the fact that the LIRR doesn't call accidents involving physical contact with a passenger/unauthorized person a "12-9."
Eric Posted April 1, 2011 Share #10 Posted April 1, 2011 The person that died was in my sophomore class at Maryland. I didn't know him, but it's always rough to have tragedy like that.
