B46 via Utica Posted December 13, 2015 Share #1 Posted December 13, 2015 This Question is for my T/Os mainly (or railfans that know alot about operating trains) Is operating an NTT similar to operating a SMEE I know most of you T/Os hate using the break handle for an NTT, So is operating an NTT easier than operating a SMEE? mediccjh Posted December 29, 2015 Share #2 Posted December 29, 2015 A day without my brake handle is like a day without sunshine. It depends on the T/O. I prefer to stand while operating, so operating a 160 is a little tough for me. With a SMEE (especially the R32), I feel I have more control over the braking than I do with a 160. With the SMEE, I know when the brakes kick in, and can smooth out my stop. With the NTT, not so much in my opinion.
Fresh Pond Posted December 29, 2015 Share #3 Posted December 29, 2015 I heard the R143/160/188 isn't all that great for lefties since the handle is all the way on the right side, unlike the R142/A which has it center-mounted
