  1. I know construction too well to screw up lol. Like second nature to me. Just not challanging anymore. Just time for a change and additional pension as well. Construction unions are dying and starving for work. Thanks
  2. City tax doesn't apply to me. I have always figured 24% and I alwaus qond up with more then what I calculate, lucky for me. Carpenters union has been on the downslide lately. It was good to me when I joined 10 plus years ago. Cpnstruction for 20 years has taken its toll and it isn't as dun anymore. Need a change. When you stop loving what you are doing, you have to reevaluate things. Thankfuk I am still young enough and have this opp. My number is the 4hundred and teens. Should be getting dt letter very soon.
  3. moose, I never said carpenters get paid every 2 weeks. TO's do. The funny bone is connected to the arm bone. A carpenter brings home about $1300 a week after taxes. and i am expecting to take home $1800 or so every 2 weeks as a TO. Wow, you confused me for a min.
  4. Sorry $600 in taxes. I go by 24% normally.
  5. Never said that. Take $2400 and multiply by 25% and you get about $500 in taxes. More if you are single.
  6. I figure as with my carpenters union oay rate at $44 and change an hr. They always take about .25-. 30 times the amount paid from my check so I figure 1800-2000 every 2 weeks take home. But I am married with 2 kids.
  7. 3teens was the lasted posted on here. I am 4teens and nothing yet. Not worried though. When it comes it comes. I am sure it will be any day now.
  8. I am sure she wasn't correct. 415 here and I haven't received anything yet. As stated above, they are up to low 300's. Hoping for Dec or Jan.
  9. I have been commuting for 11 years from Long Island, since moving from Queens. I don't care what division I get, I just want the career. 1-2 hour commute is nothing to me.
  10. Haha, no I asked. I was shocked and she said, that is all they have appointed. Success7 seems to be accurate. I am sure they are getting many calls about this list and they are tired of answering them. She did say that my number would be in the next batch to come out.... but we will see....
  11. Called Employment today and the lady that answered said they have appointed 7.......7 people? Are they way off or what the heck is going on. 7 people out of, seems to be low 300's going for pre-employment and up to at least 100 or so for the 2nd physical.... WOW!!!!! Come on low, low low, 400's!!!!!
  12. I was a Longshoreman for 10 years and within the first year I was taught, the guys that talk the most are the guys you don't want to listen to. Makes me wonder why are they talking here? I am sure it is because the guys in the break room would call them out on the crap coming out and they can't help but be heard. We will all find out our experiences and we will all learn our own stories. What separates us form the folks that nobody wants to hear is the matter of sharing them. Keep it to yourself if you don't have positive notes. I for one like to call out bs when I hear it...... If they had any merit anonymous wouldn't be the way. Give your name and we can call you on merit... But that won't happen, they need to live anonymously!
  13. Seems to me that some folks on here are the ones you should avoid in the break room. Yeah you hear some good things and info as well. But you also hear, what I call intimidation talk. I was told by my Uncle.... a 30 year man. Don't listen to the guys on those threads. Don't be intimidated, when you get called pay attention in training. And when you go out just do your job. We are all grown here, when the stories start flying, I have learned take it with a grain of salt. Hopefully everyone else here does too. When I hear talk like this I just understand it is mostly folks that wanna get you worried and second guessing yourself. It's a real job... If you don't know what to expect from a real job then do yourself a favor and get your training and do your job. That is it.....Stories are stories, I have been in the workforce long enough to know what to feed into and what not to. I hope the ones that haven't don't buy into it. PS I haven't worked for the MTA but I have been around long enough to smell bs and I smell nothing but intimidation bs. Good luck guys, just learn and do your jobs!
  14. Just called the MTA employment center. They are at 200 and change on the list numbers. No exact number for her change comment. Still hoping for this year. Thanks to all for the info and good luck to everyone that has been called back so far!
  15. No issue here. Some folks are worrying about things they can't control and if we don't have exact knowledge or facts we should just tell them not to worry. Wrong info is worse then no info. In all honesty we don't know who they will disqualify or for what reason. Well, one thing is for sure. If you fail the drug test you are gone. My Uncle, who just retired from the MTA and worked in the union office for many years told me don't even have a drink the night before the medical.
  16. Just because you went to criminal court doesn't mean you were convicted of a felony. That statement is irrelevant. I have personal knowledge of someone becoming a T/O with a felony that spent time in prison. Unless he lied to everyone for 5 years and now lies to his wife about where he is going everyday for the past 6 or 7 years now. And yes he was an Open Competitive as well. Things and people can change. Because it is a criminal court means squat.
  17. I asked this question on another board and they reply was no. Either way, be honest and if the deny you, they deny you. Worrying about things will not make situations go away. Everyone in the world has had a past. Good, bad or indifferent. I have heard from an employee that they have hired people with criminal records. I'm sure if something happen 2 months ago will totally out weigh something 6 years ago. People and lives change with age and such. Just be honest as it has been posted numerous times. And then let the cards fall where they may.
  18. The Chief just published the list on the web page. All names and numbers, but no notification of what numbers they are notifying so far. We appreciate all updates folks. Good luck to all!
  19. Great news, keep that ball a rolling!
  20. Keep us informed please. Hope you get that good news!
  21. #85 from another thread got a letter today, to show up on Monday. The ball is rolling.
  22. List #415, like I said I too am on the Outstanding Certification. Hoping for Dec the latest.
  23. Doesn't sound bad at all. I have been in construction for 20 years and working double shifts, 7/12's for months at a time and never knowing where the next job could be. Building Scaffold in the city is a very demanding job physically as well as mentally. It takes a toll on your personal life and only the strong survive. This sounds GREAT. This is the real deal big boy shit life is about. If you want to get ahead in life you must sacrifice. So you either put up, shut up or get the hell out. I love Big Boy work, no other work like it if you ask me!Thanks for the breakdown, can't wait.
