  1. Transit will issue you footwear, that’s their policy. Only way to purchase your own footwear is to have a dr sign a form and give a reason for the other footwear. You will still have to abide by transits rules when it pertains to footwear and they will be signed off by transit as well. They have certain specs. You will show up to the first few days with whatever you have and before the week is over(generally), you will be getting the transit footwear. My suggestion, get the Dr’s lines as soon as you can. Only problem with that is, good luck getting to 130 Livingston when you are in school car. Best bet is to have the form and boots/shoes, with the original box and receipt on the days you have scheduled for 130 Livingston. Other then that, you really won’t have time during school car days. They close at 4pm I believe and it’ll be difficult to make it there by then and have them approved. PS, don’t go to the medical and say you need a certain boot/shoe. You will be placed on medical hold. Wait until you’ve gotten your transit pair and work it out from there. Good luck
  2. Being a T/O, we aren’t allowed to wear steel toe boots. If you ordered them from the transit website, I have no idea how they let you. If you bought them personally, then good luck. They aren’t allowed to be worn by T/O’s
  3. $34 and change. Not sure of the exact number. Road pay is $36.25
  4. Yeah, I’m a motor for 5 years now. I happen to come in at the perfect time. Believe me when I tell you, you ain’t picking with one year in title. I’m willing to bet you won’t be picking two years in title either. As far as picking a decent shift...yeah that won’t happen until at least 3 years. Good luck and welcome. Just expect the worst and enjoy what ever comes.
  5. When you are newly hired, you will be considered yard. You won’t be yard until you pick, you will be considered yard until your 231 road days. After that you are considered revenue/road and your pay is increased to road pay. Yard means yard pay, that’s what you get to start and after school car, plus 231 road days after that you will no longer be yard/ yard pay.
  6. If they are bringing in people for provisional positions, they are done with the promotional list. It would screw up the seniority numbers and create a conflict with pick rights. Spoke with a previous partner who was hoping to be promoted and last he knew was a June Class and hasn’t heard anything since.
  7. Tier 6 is anyone that came from exam 8098 and later. So basically anyone with 5 1/2 years that didn’t come from another title or City/State job. It’s 55/25 for tier 6.
  8. 5 years and a schoolcar instructor😂. We are still learning our job at 5 years. I said from day one that it’s a mistake taking new TSS’s from our time frame into schoolcar. Got too many cowboys on the road as new TSS’s and now they are teaching. Shame! Either way, congrats. But we still rookies and I’ll never understand how transit decides shit like this. I know who you are, word goes around like forget it. Maybe you’ll say hello one day at Main. Good luck, I’m a road dog for life! Peace....
  9. Call Barbara Shivers. Number has been posted numerous times, I can't recall it myself. Good luck
  10. Being in the yard already we seem to have been saved from making the trip to Brooklyn. We had a tss come and speak with us yesterday. He sat on train as we made moves as they do. Sucks for that guy or girl, but by the time you get to the yard you should know the basics of the job.
  11. Since we have been released to the yard for a month and a week now, maybe we won't be summoned. Whatever it is, it is.
  12. Haven't gotten a call for ps 248. Wondering if it is all divisions or just the b division since it was ciyard.
  13. As per MTA rule you must wear their footwear.....unless you get a Dr.s note. The shoes you wear after that must be approved by the MTA. Not sure what they would approve though. In my opinion, if you do that, now they know you have bad feet.......
  14. This time it didn't. Believe me when I tell you,a multiple choice. He still works here to this day. I wouldn't make it up.
  15. Fyi, that doesn't always hold true about the multiple choice questions. We had one guy blow one and he is still here. Not guaranteed, but he made it. If you have no clue, and they see who doesn't have a clue, missing a multiple choice is not a good look I am sure.
  16. Guys, the signal exam isn't as hard as we make it out to be. By the time you take it, you have gone over and over the signals so much you can't help but pass. Just keep it in your head you have to learn them word for word and you will be fine. 2 people in my class got one answer "wrong" on the exam. One was a write in and one was a multiple choice question. The superintendent called them in and asked them to explain it to him, which they did correctly. They are still here today. Just keep in mind, that is not a guarantee. You will do fine. We had a couple of other classmates that didn't get it right away and even messed up on some signals on a quiz a week or so before the signal exam. They too are still here. I found that we put so much pressure into that exam because it's the finite. Believe me when I say, it's not that hard, you will be ready. No worries, just study and listen.
  17. Rtopro hit the nail on the head, his view of how things go are right on. I have only been here for a few months and I see it. I just carry myself as I belong there, because right now I do. Keep in mind, if you fail a quiz you get tutoring for 2 hrs, which you get paid for. You don't get fired for failing a quiz. Exams and practices are another story. 2 chances......that's it, well only one with the signal exam. And the 2nd chance for everything else is with a superintendent and quizzes are write ins. Pay attention, it's not that hard if you pay attention and apply yourself. Good luck
  18. We get paid next week. And count 2 weeks after that and that will be your first paycheck. It's every other Thursday. On the bright side, you guys are starting on the beginning of the pay period, so you guys will get a full paycheck. I recommend getting direct deposit asap, it takes a couple of paychecks to kick in. Not sure about when checks are processed, shouldn't worry about calling out. Not until after your 1st year unless it is a BIG emergency, that's my opinion on that matter. I went to Work n gear for my clothes. My uniforms came within a week and a few days after measurement.
  19. Really.....matchbox 20 and the googoo dolls. Lmao enjoy.
  20. I am in April class and Monday is official release to the yard. I was talking about July class. RDO this coming week is Sunday, Saturday. Me like so far. Lol
  21. I have a feeling it has something to do with the 30 jobs they cut for us. Some old timers are pretty annoyed. If they are, I don't blame them at all.
  22. Word on the street is that the next classes coming out will not be doing 3 months on the yard. I heard this from reliable source. I guess we will find out in a couple of weeks.
  23. I smoke and I am in schoolcar. Not once did I have to do a lung test. Where did you get this info. I would take whatever that person says with a very fine grain of salt.
  24. Lung capacity test? Never took that one.
