2. If I'm not mistaken, the R- contract numbers are used for more things than just subway cars, hence the "gaps". I know they're used for work motors and locomotives too. The R-127 refuse motor is built off the R62, and is demonstrably not NTT so, I really doubt the numbering scheme has some secret code to it.
3. Oh. It was another 12-9 http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/01/22/man-killed-by-subway-in-times-square/
4. January 22, 2013, 10:30 AM b/d, via b/t Nevins St and 149 St & trains via local b/t Chambers St and 96 St, due to a police investigation at the Times Sq Station. Hmm THAT seems bad. Hope it's not another 12-9 :-|
5. This is a Forest Hills 71st Avenue Bound G train, the next stop is: lol NOPE

6. Oh that'll be fun when - not if, but when - the signals wonk out in Montague today. (article in the WSJ said signal failures there have been daily since the flooding, with maintainers stationed 24/7)
7. I went into a subway the other day and they wouldn't let me buy a sandwich with my metrocard, what's that about?

8. All this talk about platform screen doors, but like, I dont get it. I had a screen door on my porch as a kid and I fell through it once. Not going to save anyone, and who cares about bugs on the platform??????????????

Yes because MTA will implement house screen doors to their system.

over 100 years of Subways in the city and all of a sudden we need to make it idiot proof.

9. I mean, it wouldn't handle the full volume of riders but they single track in the tubes all the time. Every time they have a "All trains stop at the queens/manhattan bound platform" for Vernon/Jackson or Hunterspoint. There's a double crossover just before the line goes underground at hunterspoint, and another before grand central. Terminate at QBP <7>Trains operate every 10 minutes between Times Sq and Flushing Main St. Hunterspoint Ave and Vernon-Jackson: All trains board at the queens bound platform (assuming the derailment is in the manhattan bound tube)

That is some stubborn signals!

Queens Blvd Local was BRUTAL this morning. took 35 minutes from 46st to Rock Center (it's supposed to be 15, and usually takes 20). Ugh.
11. Got this alert earlier 2:16pm: MANH, A,B,C & D trains, Smoke condition Following an earlier incident at 59 St, A, B, C & D train service has resumed with residual delays. Didn't get an alert for the start of this situation, but if whatever it was caused the C to run express, it wouldn't be able to go local again until chambers (correct me if I'm wrong) , which would explain it's express-ness at 14th.
12. Subway time is down for me. Actually, I'm a Dev, and logging into the MTA's feed website, I can't access the raw data for the subwaytime data feed.
13. According to the 2010 long-term capital plan the R68's (68a's too) are planned to be in service until at least 2025. Remember those are the newest cars in the fleet that aren't NTT... barring any major unresolved defects, it makes sense these would be the last to be replaced. In 2025 the oldest of these cars will only be 34 years old. Considering the R32 is 49, the R42 is 44, that's not too bad. The youngest R46 is 35 years old right now, and they've still got another 6 years at least until the 211's start rolling in. Replacing the 68's in 2025 would, in comparison, really not be so bad at all.
14. Haven't heard anything official, but they were calling for high tides today 2-3 feet above astronomical highs, Given Lenox Terminal - and the approach tracks - low elevation, open-cut nature and proximity to the Harlem river I'd presume they're either damming it off to stave flooding, or perhaps they're just cutting power to the tracks up there, maybe even removing equipment, so if the water floods over the approaches it at least doesn't short everything out. Either way I think it's safe to say that after Sandy they aren't taking even the slightest chance. I saw them laying up B train R-68's on the Broadway line between Times Sq. and 57th St, presumably because they were worried about CIY flooding as well.
15. Well hey, that's good news at least, that the bridges/flats/etc are at least in good enough condition to pull trains over by diesel.
16. This strikes me as a bad idea for the Queens Blvd line, it's not like there's really much by way of alternative lines for people between Steinway St. and Roosevelt Ave. And their whole thing about fastrack specifically states that they don't want to put shuttle buses into place. So I suppose for three weeks this year those of us in that part of queens have a 10pm curfew :-|
17. Wow, uh, not a heck of a lot you can do there. Single track the between Bedford and Nassau. Back everything behind the train stuck behind the work train out, dump passengers and lay up in the pocket track, or NB track depending on how many trains there are back there, Then run the train that was stuck as single track between Court and Greenpoint.
18. Runs between Stillwell and Prospect Park. Runs Three Sections: between 71st and Jay (I'm assuming montague is back up in this scenario) and between 95th and 36th brooklyn, with a single track shuttle train between 36th and 4th/9th. Runs Ditmars-Whitehall and Stillwell-59th brooklyn Runs Stillwell-9th Av, with limited runs to 36th st brooklyn that have to wrong-rail back out of the station, and Norwood-2nd Av. Runs via through Rutgers and via Culver Express to Church then via local. Well, this is ugly.
19. It's cleared now. Worth noting I don't know for sure, but I'll bet it's a follow up from yesterday's incident. Since, well, that's a murder investigation.
20. Yep. Saw the TSS at Greenpoint call on the Yellow phone once our train entered the station. The signal just before the platform is lit so once the train is at the stop indicator the block is clear. TSS at 21st then gives the T/O the okay to key-by. It seems like there might even be a pilot that gets on at one and off on the other, as further redundancy, but this might just be crew shuffling around. Hard to see how that would help. Fun to watch all this when I'm not in a rush, annoying to sit through when I am.
