  1. Something about the R211s being pulled from service temporarily made every R46 available necessary.
  2. Why would they care at this point? They are on the way out soon.
  3. By my count there are 40 or 41 complete trains of R46 available including the AA sets. This does NOT include the sets that haven't been used since August, which by my count is 3. The count of active + spares above comes to 22 + 5 + 7 + 2 = 36. So, 44 trainsets were assigned, 36 are truly needed including spares, that leaves 8 trains of R46 ready to be retired, cannibalized, or just stored somewhere. On top of that I believe there are 3 trains of R211A on site, with one being put into service today. And of course more are on the way. All this to say, they have to be starting soon to move these. Maybe CI needs some, but maybe not, and maybe some CI cars are on their last legs and should go first. Having been on the A a few times recently though the Pitkin ones are in no better shape, maybe even worse. I'm located along the Q and I see those all the time and they are in bad shape too.
  4. So you want to put a station over an already high station? And this is the "best way to do it"? You're already too high from whatever it is you're smoking. And they are NOT going to spend money on a 5-10 year project to connect it so they can do reroutes and Yankee specials. I'll be amazed if they ever open anything past 125/Lex.
  5. I see a pattern in the numbers and the dates. It looks like the higher numbered 4 car sets have been sidelined the last few weeks where the lower numbers are not. I wouldn't call it a hard and fast rule, just an observation.
  6. From what I read here some of the married pairs are being used for parts. With 7 sets of R211s in service and 3 more sets doing burn in, they'll have to start moving cars out soon.
  7. I look at your list and the 3 sets that haven't run since August could easily just be out for service. There'll always be some that are sidelined in every car class.
  8. Train without signs? Happens all the time on the R46s on the Q. I've never seen an R160 without signs though. Sometimes they aren't right but there is always something.
  9. The transfer at Flatbush shouldn't be that long. The IRT goes right up to Ave H. The stop would be between Flatbush and Nostrand and there could be a short walkway under Nostrand. It takes longer to go through Rogers Junction than it took for Rodgers to get injured. My elementary school was on Rogers Avenue, and I watched the last great Jets quarterback win the Super Bowl.
  10. Kind of ironic that they come to Brooklyn first by going through SI and now have to go back. Is it still possible to car float them back?
  11. I'd just tap my phone or credit/debit card at the turnstile for the subway and get on. No tickets necessary. It doesn't seem worth the effort to save $2.90.
  12. The R44s will be gone in an instant once the R211S arrive en masse. The R46s will linger on until the very end of the order. And of course they are isolated on Staten Island and most of us never see them. But go ahead and list them here when it happens.
  13. Sure. That'll be part of the retirement process.
  14. I'm starting to think that even though there aren't any cars officially retired there are enough R211s + R160s from the M to consider them done. By the time the R160s need to go back to the M there will be more than enough additional R211s to replace them.
  15. So maybe the A-A pairs are NOT being retired yet.
  16. Rode them for the 2nd time today. The first time I was with a big group of people and didn't pay much attention. Today I took 4094 (I think) from W4th to Jay St. It was hard to tell the difference between it and an R179 from the feel. The door lights, FIND systems and lack of seat were the only other thing I even noticed. It was a nice smooth ride.
  17. While I've always known they weren't compatible I never understood why they were built that way.
  18. I was just reading on the R211 thread that it looks like the A-A pairs will go first. And these are the first.
  19. But how soon will CBTC be on 8th Ave, never mind 6th Ave. It'll be a while. In the meantime, exhale.
  20. I wonder if this vandalism incident will mean the retirement of some cars. They need to cannibalize windows from sidelined cars and they certainly aren't going to order windows to replace the ones they cannibalize to put them into sidelined cars. At least I would hope they won't.
  21. If the signs in the R68s are a problem in Astoria, maybe they could take the LEDs out of the R46s and put them in the R68s. This way they can have incorrect LED readings rather than incorrect curtains! I have only rarely seen R68s on the Q with the 96th/2nd reading, mostly they say 57th/7th. And the R46s frequently have the wrong direction displayed. Neither car class is being maintained very well.
  22. I've been on both CI and Pitkin R46s lately and they are both in pretty rough shape. I mostly ride the Q and even the R68s run better on that line. I wouldn't be surprised if they start to retire the R46s even before they build up a spare factor with the R211s so they can stop maintaining them.
  23. It's funny, there are so many combinations on this and yet the roll signs they replaced were so inflexible with only a handful of combos. It goes up to 1245 but a lot of them are repetitive or just variations on each other that convey no additional meaning. There is probably room for a lot more too. The ones I didn't see though were for the M, which is what made me comment in the first place.
