  1. I wish all 660 R160B Kawaski cars had the Siemens propulsion system instead of just half of them. It would be cool if the entire (N)(Q) fleet were those instead and prehaps any leftover for the (E) and (F). I love the Siemens motors.

They all have a shitload of flatspots. Hate the Siemens sets.

  2. Should there be an MTA takeover of the B110 or leave it alone?

They've been doing it for a while. Political power is the only reason the franchise is still there. Problem is: what (MTA) Bus would run the route? I'd keep the route, but nearest (MTA) Bus depot is I guess Spring Creek.

  3. A little something from the NY Times, it talks about the B110 and the practice of segregation at the end.

This is why I say the city needs to strip them of that DOT route franchise. They wanna do a private "club"-like service where they force women to sit in the back because their pee-pees feel small if women are equal, go right the f**k ahead. Free country and it's your right if it's a private religious service, but don't get a public route franchise and try to enforce your batshit fundamentalist ideology on it. The only reason religious groups get away with shit like that is that their members are by and large morons who do literally whatever they're told to do and vote out anyone who doesn't bend over.

  4. This is technically LIB, but the buses were bought back during (MTA) control of that agency. Why the hell do the Long Island 1700s have the awful stop-request tape instead of the pulleys and buttons on seat handles? What was the rationale behind that? Was on 1754 today and shocked to see that the only way to request a stop was to lean over a seat for the tape.

  5. I remember you mentioning a B102 a while back, but I don't know what it entailed (off-top) enough to compare this rendition to your original rendition.... But anyway, couple questions....

    - What current riders/riderbase off other routes this route would run along are you attempting to draw in with your "B102"?

(who's current commute do you think/know your route would assist)

    - Is this a service that would simply layer a couple of current routes, or do you have some changes in mind (not yet posted) that'd attempt to fix the network in the affected areas where your route would better tie into it?

I'm not asking this to be snide or dismissive, I actually want to know what your thought process is upon drawing up the route (before I comment on it)..... Because just looking at the map, my thoughts are mixed (to be honest)......

Haha, I take no offense. This route was half-assed. The (MTA) had that cross-town routes thing on their presentations about future routes, so I was thinking along those lines. I originally wanted the line to continue west at prospect park and down Ft. Hamilton Parkway. I don't remember if I posted that one. But yeah, this isn't a well-thought-out proposal.

  6. When NFI eventually wins the larger chunk of this next order, I just hope they don't rush on their buses. The current XD40s are rattly, unreliable shit. Also, too many of them (Ulmer Park ones, anyways) have more jerk in the transmission than a west indies food spot.

  7. Well I sat in my usual last left corner seat and the legroom was nice. I'm 6'2" and I had about 3-4 inches to slouch.

they also sit up higher so your upper back can lay more on the seat... kinda like a mini express bus

here's the photo for a refresh.

Interesting. The upper back support sounds nice. I have the chance to use the B6 now on some days, so I'll keep a lookout for that bus. Would you say these seats are better than the ones the other XD40s and the C40s have?

  8. yup... or maybe just have the Orrin Vs do the s79... because castleton has two routes that run on the bridge too... but at the same time Yukon has the s89.

Are 58 3Gs enough to cover the S53/93 during rush hour peak? Even with 90 of them there, Orion Vs still show up on those routes. I'd do the 58/32 split and keep the 79 and 53 all 3G, with as many as possible on the 93. Freshest buses out there, better to have them on the routes where they can open up on the bridge.

  9. I realized today that with the S79.. the hybrids are having top speed problems...

    I don't normally ride the s79... because I take the 52/53...

but when I do ride the NGs on the S79 I realize that the B/Os won't go above 30mph on the verrazano... at first I was thinking it was because of the incline... but i stood at the front and saw him balancing at 30mph... even when we was going down hill

then today I was on the s93... and we caught up to an S79 before the first bridge tower.. and we bypassed it in the middle lane.. I was on a O7 3G. then when I got off at Fingerboard road the s79 was going through the toll.

now based on these experiences.... it seems as if they don't want the NGs going to top speed for long times

Late response here, but I feel this is one of those things they could've solved by giving Yukon some 3Gs (32 in this case) to be wrapped and Castleton some hybrids in exchange. Routes that run on highways just shouldn't run hybrids.

  10. $1 < $6.

It's an interesting point. The comparison between the van and express bus isn't what it is with van and packed local bus, with the express bus pretty much guaranteeing a comfy seat. I dunno, I guess they have people willing to do it, it is $5 savings.

  11. He was saying "x1 to Staten Island" Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G via Tapatalk 4

The X1 runs pretty frequently, so I'm kind of lost as to what their marketing strategy is there.

"Hey, pay us money to ride in this van instead of taking the big, comfy bus where you get a seat anyways."

  12. 4263 on the S79 was interesting. It was tremendously fast for a hybrid and absolutely hauled ass up the Verrazano, so I assumed it was really well taken care of. It might actually be in shitty condition under the hood, however. It kept making that all familiar pop-off valve sound (I know there's other air release sounds, I'm talking about this specific sound we all know and love), and I've literally never heard an NYC hybrid bus make that sound. Odd. Any ideas?

  13. Today was my first time I ever rode the (G). I rode it from Hoyt to Church, then to Court Square and then back to Hoyt. The ride was very quiet and nice. The R68/68A cars themselves are indeed very quiet trains. The train was generally empty since this was during the midday period. Hopefully, the next time I ride the (G), I hope I get it at rush hour or on during busy times on a weekend when its overcrowded.

Did the set you were on have any flatspots? Those hippos always sound loud on the viaduct with their flatspots every time I'm on a (G). As quiet as they are inside, they're no fun to be around in an underground station when they pull in.

  14. Forgot to mention, the bus driver was a female.

I've taken the B6 a lot during my high school years (Midwood) and there were many cases where I've seen 4 buses bunched up, usually was 2 Limited's and 2 Locals.  This was in one direction, heading towards the Junction from west Brooklyn.  Coming back would be normal 3 bunched up during afternoon rush and such. But of course obviously you can account this for the high school and college kids cramming the hell out of the buses.  Lucky for me the B11 was like a ghost and usually empty for my sake.

I'd guess 86 St stop and traffic bunched them up pretty well in time to reach Midwood. In my case it was heading south, and I'd guess the hub over on Flatbush slowed them down. Couple of decades living in the area and first time I've seen 4 of them back-to-back-to-back-to-back like that; at least that close and not spaced out over a few blocks.
