Been such a hassle. So I sent in documents for medical hold and now I have to email DCAS for name to be restored to list. Send help!

When did you go for your medical? The list was certified again back in February.

Anyway you can send an email to LMACustomerService@dcas.nyc.gov with your name, title (exam#), list number, and last four digits of your SSN asking to be reinstated.

    Need some assistance

I received the email to come back again for pre employment on 06/13/2023. I came with all documents except my SSN card which recently got lost. I figured maybe since it’s my second time coming to pre employment they could see that all my documents were verified the first time and I would be fine. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case and they told me I would have to order a new SSN card from the social security administration and then when it arrived to call 347-643-8213 or 8219 or email employmentcenter@nyct.com to reschedule another appointment to come in. I’ve called both numbers for days and no one answers. I’ve also sent an email and haven’t received a response. How should I go about this, is there any other contact method

    Go in person.

Can anyone tell me the starting rate for TO?

It's about $39-40 an hour now.

I just got an email to go in for the pre employment process. I’m not sure if I have to take a drug test on my own and bring in the results or will they do a drug test on site.

I literally answered this just a few posts up.

I have a question.. If you are XX and you bid on a job.. and a week or a month later, the person returns. Do you fall back to the bottom of XX? Meaning that within XX if a new employee is recently out of school car and you have more seniority but because you bid on a job and the person returns.. that new employee will have more seniority within XX (Since I heard there's also seniority within XX).

For example I have Sunday/Monday off. If I filled out a preference sheet with PMs and also bid on a job and win. And the person ends up returning, will the crew office honor the preference sheet I filled out before, or do I have to fill out another preference sheet, or will the crew office throw me in which ever “Tour” and “RDO” they feel like giving?

It doesn't really matter. The bottom is the bottom. Though it wouldn't hurt to be on the crew office's good side.

If the person returns, you will keep the tour and RDO of the job you lost.

What exactly is "sick consoliing & control" what triggers them to occur at transit?

You will be counseled to improve your sick leave record after your fifth unsubstantiated absence (no doctor's lines) for the year. On the 6th unsubstantiated absence, you will be placed on sick control and you will be required to provide doctor's line for every instance you book sick.

Can any veterans in here say which Dental insurance is better? The one given out by the Union or the other that comes with the Aetna high option?

I somehow managed to find a decent dentist with Healthplex and didn't have issues when I had to get a crown, but your mileage will vary. Not many dentists take Healthplex and their directory is not updated very well so you definitely have to call and ask the dentists themselves if they still take it. If you and your family really need dental work, I'd probably go with the high option.

Normally you don't get a email about results...at least in my case...if everything goes like it went for me in 2-3 months you'll get a email for drug test

Only going to chime in and say that everyone's experience is different especially depending on where your list number is and when they decide to hold classes. Last hired seems to be around 8000 or so. Amir's list# is 11.5k which means they're going to have to sort through 3500 people before they reach him. Each class is usually 50-60 people and the last known one to be held for now will be in July.

I know someone who took their OPA back in 2018 and didn't hear back for their first drug test until 2019 and then didn't get called for medical until 2021.

Was Medical an all day process? Was it just answering some medical questions and getting your blood pressure checked?

Yes, it can be. You're not the only one that's going to be there waiting to see the doctors and nurses. EKG, blood pressure, hearing, vision, sugar levels, physical signs you may have sleep apnea, etc.

Probably the best thing to do right now is to head back to 180 Livingston.

That's the thing, what exactly is a MTA authorized uniform?

You are to wear the clothing issued to you by Unipro. You can wear the button down, or mock turtle neck shirt all year round. Polos can only be worn during the summer months. To be honest, unless your pants look too different from the issued pants, no one should bother you about it, except possibly during your time in training. We know those pants are not that great. You must must wear your MTA authorized boots or alternative safety footwear signed off by a superintendent. Don't think you can sign on and then change to your sneakers.

In the winter, you have to wear the tie and either hat issued to you. If you decide to buy a third party MTA hoodie, chances are no one will say anything, but you have to wear your uniform underneath.

At the end, it seems like with the allowance, we can order anything on the site, rather than just the selection to the page that was directed to us upon login so if anyone can confirm that, that would be nice to know for next years allownace, lol.

Yes. If anyone gives you problems, tell them it was bought with the allowance.

I asked about regarding planned vacation and take off days before but some said I was most likely sh** out luck.. It is pre booked and paid already which sucks so much because I will lose out on it and take some loss.

Inform one of the TSS who will have you talk to one of the superintendents and have proof on hand that you paid for your vacation already. They might not accommodate you depending on when the vacation lands during your training, but it's worth a shot.

Hi. Does anyone know when the class after may 22nd  is? i was placed on medical hold so I won’t make it in for the class that scheduled on that day. After I submit my documents will I be placed back in line or is there something else that I will need to do or start the process all over again? Also should note that my drug test was taken in march. Will I need to do that over? I had a vacation that was planned for July but I’d love to bump it up for June before the next class if I’m able to get it. Thanks

Next one looks to be in July.

Don't worry. Once u finish probation you'll get your one week PAID vacation. Then 2 weeks, then 4 weeks as time goes on. You also accumulate AVAs (Paid Single Vacation Days). Once u accumulate a few of those and If/when u get to pick a steady Job and you have steady RDOs (Regular Days off) u can make your own little vacations besides the solid week you're given for the first year. For example..if U have Tues/Weds off regularly...U can request an AVA for Monday, you're already off Tues &Weds and request another AVA on Thurs and if you're lucky, you'll get to request and be approved for Friday. Now u got a week off u can plan a vacation. Many of us do that down here.

Just want to make a minor correction. New hires employed for less than a year will accumulate a vacation day per month up to ten days (two weeks). Which means those in the May 22nd class will get seven days of vacation (June-December). They will be able to pick a week of vacation and have another two days as AVA.

Depending on when the July class start, they will either get five or six vacation days.

    *snip*

While I have my own misgivings of the union, there are positives aspects of it as Milano pointed out.

Also keep in mind, the union includes yourself and your fellow co-workers. It's not just the people at the union hall. And unfortunately, people barely attend the monthly conductor (which meets every second Wednesday of the month at 10AM or 6PM by the way) and train operator union meetings. People barely vote when it comes to election time (although there's a valid grievance for this as well). The union executive board sees the low attendance and low voter turnout and realize they don't have to care about RTO. While on the other hand people in other departments such as buses have a strong union presence and it's reflected when it's time to negotiate our contracts.

TL;DR: While we have family and friends to attend to, sometimes you have to make room for the union as well.

I’m wondering, they just sent me a letter to go may 19 for my OPA. I’m a little concerned what are the chances I even get called for the next steps if I’m number 115xx

To be quite honest, I would apply for the next open competitive conductor test and any other OC test you qualify for on June 1st.

That upcoming test and the two promotional exams for conductors at hand means they can't keep pulling candidates from this one. They have to leave some room for those candidates to get hired.

But you never know and at the very least take the OPA so you know how it is.

Hey guys, congrats to all. I see a lot of people asking about these positions. I don’t think it makes a difference on how they are picking, I was 7xxx (it’s been so long I don’t remember my actual number, just that I was in the 7xxx’s). I am in my 10th month now, almost done with probation. There has been many classes since the class that me and Milano was in so don’t look at those numbers to measure when you will get in.

You were in the 5XXX. Which means over 2200 people have been vetted since then.

I have a question for those on the job and what to expect if you pass the training. I’ve been thinking like leaning my head out the cabin and being exposed. I understand it’s very possible someone may hit you or throw something at you. How often have any of you conductors that have been doing the job encountered that? How is it working the late night shifts? Just asking to really get an honest feel for the job and ask at hand and ahead?

Let's just say. If there's anyone who should get that Transamerica disability insurance they peddle at the union hall, it's conductors. Mind you it doesn't happen often, but you will have to be aware of people possibly spitting, throwing something, or hitting you while looking out the cab. Perhaps it's annoying, but wear your safety glasses as part of your required PPE.

List number determines the order of picking divisions, so people that restored their names to the list will be picking first since their list numbers should be lower than the rest of the induction class?

Yes, within the class they're in only.

  16. 1 minute ago, Jsalcedo718 said:

Don't risk it. Don't smoke until you go to your OPA. It IS possible they drug test u that day if they need to quickly fill spots for a class. It says it clearly in your letter that they can drug test u immediately.

If he's just doing the OPA now, then his list number is probably so far back, it won't even matter.

What's up y'all. Im a lil confused. My list number is 57XX. I'm seeing 6000's called and i only had one pre employment back on 11/04/22. Also when i call i'm told that they are still in the 5000's still. How does the list number system work? Also, will i be receiving an email from the same email as the initial or a different one?

I suggest checking your emails to see if you missed one from Transit.
You can search for your name here and see if you're in the latest batch or not.

In the end, I would get in contact with Transit and see what happened.

I did two drug test last one in August  never received  any email to tell me anything

Echoing Comrade, I would email DCAS and tell them you want to be restored to the list and perhaps even contact Transit that you never received another letter or email to come in. At 59XX, you should've been called in awhile back.
