Hey everyone, I just registered for the new station agent exam. Can somebody tell me what will be on it and what’s the best way to study for the test? What score do you need to get in order to get hired? Thanks.

Please read the notice of examination as it will answer your question better than we can.

I had to withdraw from the NYPD employment process years back , do i need to add that to prior employment termination sheet ?

My Dad retired as a yard dispatcher  A division years ago . Dose that add any weight to the employment process , just  curious.

    1. If you were never employed by the NYPD, then you were never terminated to begin with.

    2. No. Your list number determines where you stand.

Can someone please help me understand. I was told to report to 180 Livingston today 10/31 I was sent all the pre-employment paperwork and was asked to email them back but when I went in today all that was done was a drug test. I was then told to wait 30-90 days. Is that the way the process goes?

Yes. You're drug tested first and then you continue to wait until they reach your list number to be called in for the next class available. Depending on how long you have to wait, you may have to come back to take another drug test or two in the meantime.

Word of warning. The Tier 6 pension does not pay out as well as one may like (I would be more than happy to be corrected on this). Which is why people still try to supplement it with a 401k/other investments. It's also why people try to get promoted to train dispatcher or train service supervisor where their higher salary contribute more into the pension, but depending on when you get hired, you may have to wait a few years to take the next exam and then get promoted from it.

It is a grueling job and it will definitely put you through the wringer. Your chances of having the weekend off and being able to get a day off approved will certainly be much lower than at your current position. From the start, you'll be working at all manner of hours and locations throughout the city that you may find yourself begging to work from home.

Lastly, there seems to be an unfortunate trend of people dying soon after they retire.

I would advise, you stick with your current job and try to work on your retirement portfolio.

  5. The good thing about CBTC: There's less physical signals that you may accidentally hit.

And that's what Transit wants. They don't want to spend money sending signal maintainers out there to fix something that's a hundred years old and they don't want to buy and replace them with new ones that will keep those maintainers busy.

Crap happens when an old signal decides to act up. Crap happens in CBTC. And last I heard there's plenty of senior T/O's on the L and 7 line.

I just got email from MTA.
it saying Conditional offer. Is that mean Im not getting permanent job?

"Accordingly, please accept this letter as a conditional offer of employment subject to successful completion of a medical evaluation."

    I,m really confused.

You will get the job if you pass the medical exam. What is the class date?

Hey I had a question will the promotional exam coming up later this year be open to everybody who works in nyc transit or just for certain people

From a previous promotional T/O exam:
ELIGIBILITY TO TAKE EXAMINATION: This examination is open to each employee of the New York City Transit Authority who on the date of the multiple-choice test:

    1. is permanently (not provisionally) employed in, or appears on a Preferred List (see Note, below) for the title of Conductor, Tower Operator, or Bus Operator; or

    2. is permanently (not provisionally) employed in, or appears on a Preferred List (see Note, below) for, a competitive class title in the NYC Transit Authority and who has satisfactorily completed the NYCT Transit Certificate Program for Train Operator, and must have three years of satisfactory full-time work experience including at least one year of work with the NYC Transit Authority; or

(Note: A "Preferred List" is a civil service list which is only for certain former permanent incumbents of the eligible title who have rehiring rights.)

    3. is employed in a labor class or non-competitive class title in the NYC Transit Authority, and who has satisfactorily completed the NYCT Transit Certificate Program for Train Operator, and must have three years of satisfactory full-time work experience including at least one year of work with the NYC Transit Authority; and

    4. is not otherwise ineligible.

Starting to rethink this whole TO thing.  It's the second week of training and this week has been a disaster. We routinely got on trains late bc there other classes were in the trains or they were in service.  The TSS routinely tells us how we are short of time.  They tell us about all the mistakes the new classes are making such is not surprising consider how much they want us to know.  I've been studying daily and even then I can't keep up. Everything is rushed in terms of teaching.  They will tell us we have to learn something and then next day want us to know it backwards and forewards.

Unfortunately, plenty of good TSS's left school car since the pandemic and never looked back.

That said, keep an eye on your schedule. Knowing your stuff will matter when you get to the practicals and signal exams.

I feel like hiring slowed down around this time last year as well, though I could be remembering incorrectly. Has anyone heard anything solid about classes after the one that started on 10/3? I'm just finishing up my 30 days on the CPAP and was going to email them Thursday to make an appointment to come off hold.

Keep in mind, it's been a year with a lot of classes graduating since then. Sooner or later, the spout will be closed especially when Transit has to consider hiring off of the promotional exam.

See how well you formulated your angry answer to me? Therefore, I'm absolutely certain you passed the opa. It did prompt me to go look at my letter. It took 4 months before I got the letter that said I passed. They actually scheduled me for pre-employment before I got that letter in the mail.

Yea its me being aware of what's going on. So how about you relax 👍. It's called a forum the last time I checked, where you ask about what's going on. You don't like it then don't read the email.

Buddy, you're spamming us expecting us to spend OUR time answering your question that you already asked a week before. You're the one that needs to chill.

That said, coming down the grapevine, Transit will pause their hiring next month to have a better gauge on who doesn't pass schoolcar, quit, get fired, retired, etc. So I would count your lucky stars if you even get a pre-employment letter at all.

Question, if someone needed to resign while on probation, where do you go? Do you give a notice or just go resign? Asking for one of my classmates.

I'm assuming he's out of schoolcar. I would call union and the crew office. Then he has to go to Material Control at 130 Livingston to relinquish his tools and uniforms.

I wonder if people are getting enough operating time with the larger classes and shorter schoolcar schedules. A lot of students have been dropping the handle or pulling it too far and going BIE in service while posting. It's been happening so often a lot of people don't want to take students to avoid the aggravation. Speaks to a lack of familiarity with the master controller because by the time you are road posting you should at least be comfortable with it.

Eh, road posting is when someone finally starts learning how to operate and it's always been where people make mistakes. Maybe people can get a bit more comfortable operating when YX was longer, but it's still nothing like being on the road and road ops has always been a joke.

how do you find ur conductor's name? LOL! i'm laughing cuz i just sign in without looking for my partner's name.  is he/she on the right side of where i sign in or i have to look for his/her name on the sign in sheet too?? just look for my job #?

Um, generally, if your conductor reports the same time as you, then s/he should be above or below your name.....................................

I was called last year for pre-employment screening, I could not proceed forward because of tickets on my license. I finally got them resolved, via through email, was told I had to have my name restored back to the list. I went to the DCAS and got my name restored. Trying to reschedule my appointment through email and phone but to no avail. My list number was 19xx, any suggestions on how I can get another appointment?

If you just reinstated, you're just going to have to wait until they certify a new list to pull candidates from.

From anyones personal experience who’s in schoolcar or already went through schoolcar what would you’ll recommend to bring and have on a daily basis ? Weather it’s a notebook to take notes certain kind of bag to carry etc anything 180 don’t tell us to bring ?? Thank you in advance

Ear muffs to protect your hearing. When the older equipment go brakes in emergency, it is loud in the cab. Also have a water bottle on hand. It's getting cooler, but keep yourself hydrated.

Hi, has anyone failed to give enough urine. If so, what was next for you?

I just went in for pre employment today

did the paperwork, just couldn’t get the urine done. They said to wait on a call.

    list number 64**
    OPA exam 5/21

    pre employment 9/22 (today)

Not sure what you mean by wait on a call. As Comrade96 alluded to and per the instructional sheet they should've given you, you are allowed additional time to drink more water and try again when you're ready.

Another question do anyone think it’s best to invest in a laptop through schoolcar ? Or everything will be hands on and inside of a actual book ? Is it worth buying a laptop ? Or can I make it without one ? I do have an iPhone though. Just thinking

You're suppose to be given physical copies of the rulebook et al as you're not allowed to use electronics outside your lunch break.

You should get a notebook to write things down.
