  1. < And to whoever said the R211's are gonna finish off the remaining R32's, that's not gonna happen.> Of course it will. The R179's will finish off the R42's and perhaps a few R32's. The remaining will be first to go wit the R211, even if some R46's linger beyond the R211's. The R32's will be 56 years old by 2020.
  2. Wider doors likely means 4 fewer seats than an R160. I do not like the diaganol bars at the ends of the benches. Something like PATH or TTC has is better. They could always bump R68's to SIR so as not to deal with a semi-RR version of the R211, that would likely be individually coupled again.
  3. How do they relay trains at Bway Jct without disrupting service given the Fulton el infrastructure at Atlantic Av has been decimated ?
  4. At least for this July 4th weekend, the will be in the Cranberry tunnels, the will be express 34th-Chambers, and the will be running to Brooklyn.
  5. I wouldn't confuse "high opposition" for NIMBY. But the defeat remains in effect, or we would not have King Andrew with his stupid LGA Airtrain from Willets Point.
  6. The MTA seems psychologically opposed to any electrification, whether it be Upper Hudson Line or to Port Jefferson.
  7. I once proposed to the TA sending the Rock Park A to Forest Hills as a local to clean up the 34th Street platform of LIRR commuters. They do not want to do it. Southbound in the PM, it runs on a schedule which people wait for, and they do not want it getting caught up in the inevitable delays on the Queens Line.
  8. I think you need more than just the E as a local to clean up the local platforms at 34th of RR commuters.
  9. I think the contour is much like an M-8. End is more attractive too. I'd prefer orange over yellow.
  10. < Tried the subways yesterday to get to Trainworld in Brooklyn and it was a nightmare. > You'd have had a much easier time getting to sister store Trainland out in Lynbrook. And there are more nice diners out there to have lunch.
  11. I would call the Lefferts A the A, the Far Rockaway one the H, the Rockaway Park the Diamond H. One less letter to deal with. Rockaways means one H or the other.
  12. I think some apartment building landlords threatened to sue the MTA over the Hillside Local also being a Queens Blvd Local having the R with no F option. It was regarded as a service degradation to reduce their property values. People at 179th may not go for it, but further on down the line, they would get a seat on an M. They could value that over 8 minutes more running time from Forest Hills to Queens Plaza, then deduct transfer time from the F to an E or an M - if they wanted direct access to the 53rd Street line.
  13. Other than the M and then L outages, I don't think there is any need to kill J/Z express service just so a relative few can transfer to the G. The J/Z is enough of a schlep as it is. I do think at least some M's should be extended to 179th, though once the R179's and some R211's get here, and the R42's and R32's go away, there will not be enough 480'-capable train sets to cover it, unless the C gets full length trains, which is not needed either.
  14. Little nitpick: the black-colored "West Hempstead Branch" is technically the "Montauk Branch". The West Hempstead Branch ends back at Valley interlocking, where the Atlantic Branch continues east as the Long Beach Branch. Don't be confused by LIRR's silly timetable formatting. With the E train at Laurelton, I do not think there will be any need for a re-established Springfield Gardens station. The station had nil usage when abandoned back in 1979. On the Atlantic Branch, your Guy Brewer station approximates the old LIRR Cedar Manor station, though it was closer to Linden Blvd, abandoned with grade crossing elimination in 1959. Locust Manor station was moved further east in 1959 when Higbie Av station was also eliminated. Locust Manor is of course a 20 minute Q3 bus ride on the Q3 to JFK Terminal 5.
