  1. As of April 27 there were 125 cars 8888-92, 9013-17, 8933-37, 8938-42, 8978-82, 8993-97, 9003-9012 and 9018-9102 (9018 & up, all) at Coney Island used on and . The balance (1,165) are at Jamaica (). Same for May 1... No changes are expected until whenever
  2. Out of the Blue. That would mean they are currently laid up?
  3. Reportedly at CIY. At the very least they've been moved from where they were sitting at Jamaica last week. All but two sets were moved to CIY yard on April 11. I think all are there now at least this past week. They're all held aside because of some kind of missing disinfectant process. Don't know when or If they will be restored soon. Keep an eye?
  4. The wasn't suspended until the early evening of the 29th. Prior to that every other Train went local. On another note bunch of those R179s are laid up at 207th Street Yard. Thank you. I gathered that 207 Street Yard must be packed with stored equipment right now.
  5. 3414/15, 3430/31, 3614/15, 3780/81, 3798/99, 3804/05 I get eight cars being prepped. Not sure about 3414/15 and 3614/15. All others are being black-lined as of April 8. AFAIK that means everything else "Must Go!" Would make for such a Torch Party somewhere... How about evolving status for the retired R-42's? No one seems to pay attention.
  6. the C is suspended Did anyone also notice that R-179s 3150-3237 are on ice as long as the is, too. The 8-car R-179s can't be used on the .
  7. So it seems we lost the some time ago. Like starting March 27. That means 3150-3237 are having a long vacation. Can't use the 8-car R-179s on the .
  8. So on Thursday, there were just these two "retired" trains of R-32s back in service...Hmmm... 3501/00-3716/17-3628/3669-3381/80. 3574/75-3376/77-3888/89-3775/74. FWIW, at least as of March 26, 2020 there were (technically and) again 74 cars in the R-32 fleet. Time will tell if this continues. There were still 58 in the fleet on Monday the 23rd.
  9. 1391 was one hell of an unlucky car. According to nycsubway.org, this same car got into another accident 4 years later on the yard lead to 239th Yard. The Canarsie overshoot set (8277-80) was fixed up but it took 11 years. The R46s that derailed in QBL (5742-45) were fixed in 2 years. The 46s that derailed north of 125 (6150-3) however, were half written off, with 6152-3 buddying up with AB pair 6206-7 to make a four car train. It probably wasn’t worth it to repair said cars, as the 46s were at the time 41 years old. If 207 can fix 1391, the Canarsie set, and the QBL derailment set, IMO they could fix 6346-50, at the cost of the set being OOS for a long time (I estimate 3-4 years). Condolences to the motorman’s family for his death on the job. Well if you reread the original posting it already says 6347 is already NOT repairable aka "Toast" aka "totaled " The structural framing is buckled at the #1 end wall and the roof structure also buckled. As a B car the rest of the body is built around that which will completely compromise that car's structural integrity. In short there is nothing to rebuild, unless you thinking about building a whole new body. That even 207 wouldn't be able to "fix." Prove me wrong?
  10. THANK YOU!!! That finishes the R-179 pilgrimage. Woo hoo!
  11. As I understand there were three employees on hand. One was the Train Operator at the north end of the train who was found on the roadbed. The second was the Conductor who faithfully evacuated the passengers as the professional he or she was. Third was the 110 Street station agent, who was misidentified as the media as a "second Conductor." For what that means, the T/O was also showed as "Motorman" or just simply a "Conductor" (generic definition) in other accounts. As a T/O, the fact that he was able to skillfully bring the train into the 110 Street station was superhumanly of its own. It takes and five to seven minutes NB to navigate that deep tunnel under the NW corner of Central Park between 96 and 110 Street. To operate a burning train the T/O had to successfully overcome several curves and time signals, then push the train's power back up, then watch the next speed timers entering the station at 10 mph or a little less on the sharp turn. Again, all of that would have had to be done while not trying to choke all the while. The T/O somehow had the will to get all the way to 110 as the only first place that emergency service would have made the burning train. To stop short under the park could have been a total loss, even if power were to be cut off whereas the interior was actively burning and smoke continue no matter what. The thick smoke must have been incredible. The station agent would have been the first eyes to see the fire itself as it came around the turn entering the station. I would surmise there was quite a smell in advance then thick smoke ahead of the train itself. That's my own 2 cents FWIW.
  12. i believe the other cars in the five-car set leading: 6346, 6348, 6349, 6350 were also damaged. from what i'm hearing it appears the first few cars (maybe the first 5) were severely damaged but the other back half of the train is still intact (don't know the #s of the other five car set at the back) The consist was: 6346/47/48/49/6350-6366/67/68/69/6370 (S). 6347 is not repairable whereas the body frame is buckled in roof and (#1) end wall in the immediate fire area. Much secondary damage as FDNY fought the conflagration. Note the station as well, eh? The station will be down for a bit of time. Possibly several weeks. Not much sense to restore 6346,48,49 or 6350 to service without the "totaled" 6347. Let's hear it for unitized equipment... Does anybody else recall the time 1391 was burned out by a mad individual? 207 Street was able to put it back together. Let's see if the media will reveal when they learn what the full story was aside from the heroism of the deceased (tragically victimized) T/O.
  13. There were 3 sets today, 3929 south motor, I didn't get a chance to see the north motor, since I was on 3805, but I also saw another one while I was heading uptown at 34 St. Two R-32 trains on Saturday, March 21. Zero R-32s on Sunday, March 22. Reason for frequent consist switching is to change-out end pairs when problems arise. It is easy to derive that the R-32s are hanging on by a thread right now.
  14. In other words, still on the for now (28 cars) I learned that for some reason, R-46 5826-29 is back at Jamaica as of March 11. Was in the barn for a few days, then seen on service last Thursday (March 19). Others still the same as of March 23: 5498-5501, 5506-09, 5570-73, 5574-77, 5734-37, 5802-05. All on when running.
  15. Forgive the cross posting (Listing), but I think this is where it probably should go as well: "There were three R-32 trains on both Thursday (March 19) and Friday (March 20). Not quite always the same consists, but overall this week there were 48 R-32s accumulating road mileage. No more official retirements through March 20 so still 58 on fleet. No weekend summary yet for March 21. Time will tell but 48 of 58 R-32s appears very realistic. The other 10 would represent shop and available spares. Lets pick up the tale for Monday (March 23). B. Safe!" With a handful of trains (sometimes different cars and/or drilled in different consist) so observed (well done by the brave!), the R-32s were obviously alive through yesterday (Saturday, March 21). Keep that flame going...
  16. not quite actually. on wednesday i spotted two (maybe three) consists of R32s in service on the . There were three R-32 trains on both Thursday (March 19) and Friday (March 20). Not quite always the sane consists, but overall this week there were 48 R-32s accumulating road mileage. No more official retirements through March 20 so still 58 on fleet. No weekend summary yet for March 21. Time will tell but 48 of 58 R-32s appears very realistic. The other 10 would represent shop and available spares. Lets pick up the tale for Monday (March 23). B. Safe!
  17. There's 10 trains used on the during weekends and (20-something) on the rotation but they are not all constantly on the road. See what you find, assuming you're out there. Might find a gap train somewhere that sits all weekend. FWIW, my money is that you just won't find the R-32s anymore.
  18. Um, as best I can find there weren't ANY R-32s on the at all Thursday or Friday, but am unsure about Tuesday or Wednesday. They were definitely roading on Monday of at least four trains (32 cars). It might already be ovah!
  19. Well if that's the case then it might have been their last trips on Monday, March 16. Just four R-32 trains on the rotation for the morning rush (if that was indeed a "rush hour" LOL). 3928/29-3714/15-3477/76-3396/97. 3841/40-3736/37-3672/73-3646/47. 3727/26-3664/65-3865/64-3857/56. 3779/78-3895/94-3811/10-3513/12. Nine R-179s, Five R-46s and Four R-32s. That could be it!
  20. Thursday, March 19: Is anyone else still out there??? Today, we appeared to have seven (7) R-46s and ten (10) R-179s on . I think there were two R-32 trains in the bullpen from Pitkin but they didn't make it on the road. If anyone actually SAW what might be the last (Wednesday), please sing out!
  21. Still Zero R-32s on as of Monday, March 16. Five R-46s on , four R-32s on . 32 cars (of 58), that's all left in use... 'Course, MTA claims subways ridership is down 60% even so. This rate they won't survive long.
  22. 8913-17 belong at Coney Island. They haven't been transferred (yet).
  23. First weekday I know of: No (Zero) R-32s were operated on Friday, March 13.
  24. First weekday I know of: No (Zero) R-32s were operated on Friday, March 13.
  25. Some nasty planning ahead depending on how deep goes the Force Majeure (i.e. Coronavirus rider droppage). One option is "Forever Weekend" scheduling on subways. Otherwise a long-term subways closure may not be out of question as events require. The need for R-32s seem to be leaving us all! Note that WMATA is already full-time weekend scheduling and MBTA will be following next Monday. Here we go...
