  1. Just taking an educated guess. Correct me if I'm wrong. Open or pending cases, tickets and failure to resolve them. Inconsistent documentation such as misspelled names that are never resolved. Missing periods or inconsistent work and residential history. Failed or "refusal" to take a drug test. Invalid qualifications or credentials (foreign documents that are not translated into English), expired or suspended license. You hold or held an office or public/private position that conflicts with all the agency code of ethics. Or my favorite, though not official: you appear on the Specially Designated Nationals list. (Known terrorist) Then on to failing the medical ASSESSMENT. That being said, everyone knows that this position's NOE states that passing an OPA is part of the qualifications. Now whether or not they organize the OPS is another story.
  2. Whatever DCAS knows, Transit WILL KNOW. They are willing to give you an opportunity to operate a $20mil consist carrying over 2000 passengers for 8 hours. If you were a parent, would you hire a babysitter that lied on their resume?
  3. Read carefully the instructions on how to complete the 21 page packet. Everything is important, and omitting ANYTHING is the same as lying on the packet. The moment you went to the test site and did your three fingerprints and SSN on that test date notification paper, presume they already know everything about you.
  4. What you share with Transit is your decision regarding medical issues, but most of these physicians at the MAC been around long enough to eyeball problems that might arise. Pre-employment is in my experience always the drug and alcohol test and qualifying prelimary paperwork.
  5. They measure your neck and bmi, ask a series of questions, then make an assessment. Go see your doctor and get tested before THEIR doctor tests you. Get all forms needed to say you are fully capable of doing the job.
  6. As long as it is not offensive and does not reflect negatively on the MTA, you are ok.
  7. From my understanding, it depends on hiring needs. The NOE mentions that the TEH eligibles can also be used to fulfill the vacancies in the signals department. Met a few Signal Maintainers who mentioned they had came out of the TEH list 2 years ago. From the way they talked about it, it seems like they didn't have a choice.
  8. Take the promotion first. Until you are sworn in and started school car, you are not getting paid by the MTA
  9. https://hcm.mymta.info/psc/HCPRD/SELFSERVICE/HXMS/c/HRS_HRAM.HRS_APP_SCHJOB.GBL?Page=HRS_APP_SCHJOB&Action=U&TargetFrameName=None Job 89326 Track Equipment Maintainer Try this position. It may be provisional and you must pass a civil service test to be permanent, but it's another way to get in.
  10. http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcas/html/employees/prr_rule4.shtml Both are correct. Although the links to the Administration Manual might be outdated, the DCAS link summarizes the powers. In particular refer to rule 4.6.1b, and take note of the phrase "or by the head of the examining agency..." My interpretation implies the TA Exams Unit has unilateral authority on tie breaker procedures.
  11. Top pay as of February 16, 2018 is $31.635 The pay scale is illustrated as: Induction year 70% = $22.1445. Annual compensation ~ $46,060.56 2nd year 75% = $23.72625. Annual compensation ~ $49350.60 3rd year 80% = $25.308. Annual compensation ~ $52,640.64 4th year 85% = $26.88975. Annual compensation ~ $55930.68 5th year 90% = $28.4715. Annual compensation ~ $59220.72 6th year 100% = $31.635. Annual compensation = $65,800.80 These rates are valid until May 16, 2019 when the current contract expires and raises will be renegotiated.
  12. According to the NOE page 2, the OPA is a requirement for the job. Skipping the OPA might result in an unfavorable outcome.
  13. Save your receipts, anything you purchase for uniform purposes may be eligible for tax deductions. I strongly recommend spending the money neccessary to be as confortable as possible, after 1 year every job down here takes its pound of flesh.
  14. Station Agents are not issued shoes. Have to buy them on your own. No Sneakers, no sandals, no open toe shoes. They should be SLIP RESISTANT and of a dark color such as black or brown. I would recommend spending some good money on shoes, as going cheap would really affect how you may perform in certain jobs required of Station Agents. Some people buy those orthopedic shoes that diabetics wear that cost a buck. I would start off with skechers work shoes, especially if they have a sale going on. Speaking of uniforms, I would also recommend getting a size that allows you to wear thermals and/or moisture wicking performance clothes underneath. It will be three long years before your next allowance. This includes your trooper hat as well.
  15. Gotta go all in with this job. $25 will become the least of your worries down here.
  16. Plenty of felons down here. As long as you admit your crime, paid the fines, did the time, and are currently staying clean, you will see a positive outcome. But omit or lie about it and they will make an example of you.
  17. Department of Subways is implementing a volunteer project called ICAP. Refer to RTO notice 104-17 or Stations notice 006-18.
  18. 1) No, its just a list of eligibles. Not everyone on the list will pass the drug test or fitness for duty assessments. 2) http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcas/html/employees/prr_rule4.shtml Section VIII Declination of appointment holds your answers. I believe you can restore your name to the list 3 times during the life of the list (Feb. 14 2022). However i recall you might be drafted into signals trainee or become a maintainer? If you become a maintainer, you will make more $$ than a conductor and might have to accept a demotion or resign altogether to accept the CR job. Refer to rule 9 of the book dealing with promotions. Edit-tower operator promo exam is opn to filing on june 8th 2018. Transit electrical helpers in the electrical division (signals and power) are eligible. Just have to be permanent by the time of the TEST according to the 2016 NOE
  19. The radio transmissions down here are all short, quick and use radio codes. Sometimes when the situation is serious, the dispatcher or tss will not have the time to repeat their message. Sometimes control will issue radio silence going into certain stations, so they MUST go with their messages outside of the restricted area.
  20. http://www.twulocal100.org/contracts-taoamta-bus As per 2012-2017 Ratified MOU TA/OA, the wage progression chart is outlined therein, additionally the top pay chart is also provided at the top of the contracts page. However, by the time you reach 5 years in title, the top pay will differe than what you see here, via contract negotiations provided you have not taken and/or not successfully passed any promotional exams. The information contained in these pages is only the surface of what you see, once involved with the TA and being in contact with fellow senior members in said department, you may have opportunities to increase your earning potential.
  21. Keep reading the books. It will all come together after the observation day and the AFC training. Looking back on it, the hardest part for us was trying to get the printer to work.
  22. Plenty of workers down here are still active military. You just need a bunch of forms to get leave for military deployment. When you get called for pre-employment processing, I would suggest bringing the Enlistment Contract/Oath of Officers and informing them.
  23. Just wanted to put up a small snapshot of the 5 year trip.
  24. I know the feeling. No kids, but rent and leaving a stable 12+ yr job with pension and 401k... one of the most difficult decisions of my life. I visit the old office, I see how miserable it is over there now. Don't regret the move. It will be overwhelming at first, adapting to a new culture, but after the first year, I see the light. When you decide, whatever you decide, do it for the right reasons. Get days off when you need them, decent pension, no glass ceiling as long as you apply yourself to the best of your ability, free tutoring for yourself or your kids through the union connections... there are programs down here people don't take advantage of.
