Yeah your right about one thing I’m not offended one bit, I don’t justify anything I also don’t turn a blind eye to the issues of why people fare beat. Most real New Yorkers don’t care for this 2 bit ran system of fat cats soaking up all the money then crying murder. I don’t follow the smoke I rather see where it starts at which is the Top, Not new to anything when dealing with the MTA or New York period.

Well.. When it comes to Kim Jung-Cuomo there is no way to make the system as pleasant, than making it dysfunctional for our fuhrer to get recognized as the man who can make things happen as if he were in a Disney Film. This man is just absurd, he has no regard for the riding public, and rather prefers the system to be in a condition of hell due to the fact that it gives him something to perform lip service on, builds his resume on "achievements" and puts a screen in front of you trying to cover up the truth with some Bullshit. I have read an article this morning which I will post in a new thread, about the new Transformation just looking like a Political Hack. The dirty politics of Cuomo will screw over New York State, man gives 2 flying f*cks about what happens with the (MTA) because he wants to be known as a savior. If Cuomo lets say achieves control of the agency, if he looses re-election in 2024 (New York State has no term limits for Governor) then it leaves his successor with a living hell. Now this Fare Evasion is seriously under control, it is saddening to hear a Board Member Blantantly state that she sees men in suits at Wall St Station Fare Evading, then there is a crisis. Fare Evasion crackdown is being approached in a wrong manner. Officers Plain Clothed and Uniformed should be riding up and down buses, and blending in with normal customers to stop this. But the Fuhrer is in charge, so this is all about him.

They're still showing up (they might be rerouted (2) trains, IDK).

They are (6) Trains, someone caught a picture of one a couple of minutes ago traveling north at 3 Av-149 St via the (2)(5)

I have the picture, how do I post it on here?

Good to know. Do you know if they’re also getting the automated announcements? At least the ones I took don’t have them yet.

Most of them are functional, its just a glitch on Clever Devices' end which have to be fixed. Some of them also have this issue where they work one day, the other they're broken. But most are functional.

I think it was more intentional. Maybe your right about them removing the side ads which peeled part of the SBS wrapping, and they probably then continued peeling it off. The ENTIRE driver side was back in the local scheme.

I don't get why they apply advertisements when they are aware that the wrap used isn't strong enough to be able to handle them. If their intentions was to do this, they should've used a stronger material for the wrap so it would be able to handle Ads. Let alone the adhesive mess left behind from them too.

  5. This abhorrently disgusting, we all need to stand up to this. Cuomo's bullshit has to end ASAP. Splitting Buses and Subways would create a logistical hell, this plan is nothing but a disgrace to New York. These actions behind closed doors are nothing but an embarassment, a disgust, we have to all come together as people in this forum and stand up to this. This can affect employees from the very top executive, down to the cleaners, this is something we have to root for, we cannot waste any time on this and we have to show that we are against this political shit-show, lets get on contacting our Borough President, Council Members, our Mayor (even though its unlikely he'll do squat as he is pandering in running for president), Community Boards, State Legislature's, and even bring this to the courts if necessary. This is something that can pose us the riders at risk from the positive changes that a talented man has done to modernize NYCT. We have to fight as people, we need to make sure that these elected officials see that us as their constituents are highly concerned, and against the big problems that this could bring to us. Andy Byford is ours to lead, the Governor needs to learn how to stop being a baby, and coming from a man who speaks about Trump being immature, and disgusting, I'd also forward that back to Cuomo, because he has held on to power for long, has not given a shit about the (MTA) Until 2016 came around and saw things were plummeting to hell, same ass-hole who diverted funds from the (MTA) to upstate ski resorts that had a bad winter. This man disgusts me, we need to stand up to this, we have to make sure that this does not go through, and seek every avenue of legal protections to make sure Cuomo does not circumvent his nasty and dirty ol' political grooves through the board. Please treat this as an immediate case, we have 29 days to act upon this and every day should count! This cannot continue any longer, and I wish that this state had term limits to make sure something like this would be avoided from a public servant. For now we have to work from the basics, make an alliance, get together and fight this as one team. @Via Garibaldi 8 Already has an Express Bus Advocacy Group, now we have to get together and make an Advocacy Group for this matter, get together, circulate letters to communities, and let our riding public aware of the real situation here.

Jeez, she missed her 15 minutes of fame BECAUSE IN THIS DAY AND AGE THE MTA DOESN'T THINK CAMERAS ON BUSES ARE NECESSARY for safety and other purposes.  FUN FACT: Did you know that all of Target's store cameras are linked, and can have footage pulled from Minneapolis from any of their locations IN REAL TIME, PLUS Target's got their own "CSI" Crime Lab that actually rivals the FBI's? (EDIT ADD: And they actually had that technology [plus building on it since] over 10 years ago? Target [Private Industry]: 1,000,000; MTA: 0, for those keeping score.)

If only that chick had taken out her anger on a subway platform, THEN the MTA flatfoots could've caught her, or at LEAST her pic would've been caught and then plastered in the Post.

Screwed herself because she didn't have her PMS attack in Brooklyn. Only lowly SI.

(MTA) Buses actually have cameras inside the buses. Only new buses have exterior cameras, and a couple of the existing fleet is getting them retrofitted on the exterior.

MTA is out patting itself on the back for swapping out Staten Island local buses, and adding the 50 Express buses.

They also continue to brag about their successes of the SI Express Redesign, notably:

So all you Staten Island Express Bus complainers better get your minds right on this! You like what happened, and everything's much better than what it used to be!

Nice, too, that they admit they're planning the same treatment for SI Local customers. ("The lessons learned from [the Express Bus] redesign will be used for ... the SI local bus network ...")

And don't miss this gem from your Congressman as well:

    Komrades.

"I look forward to these buses getting on the road and showing the people of Staten Island that government can make a difference in their daily lives."

I hope someone informed him that those buses have been on the road a bit before his PR Stunt with (MTA) Brass and Staten Islanders. Plus this order has been scheduled to have buses go to Staten Island for a couple of years now, since (MTA) has determined that Hybrids don't perform well over there. These politicians are such a joke.

I don't think the (MTA) is any position to take over those routes this summer, not unless they get more buses from somewhere, which is highly doubtful.

Yeah... That is a tough case. This type of operation should've been ceased a while ago, and I thought that with the Network redesign it would've been addressed. With the upcoming years the service will die off because as everything is upgrading, customers on the SIM23 and SIM24 are stuck behind, and it gives reason for them at the end of the day to stop using those routes. Hopefully in 2021 these 50 Buses can finally resolve this issue, but as mentioned this should be rooted from now in order to make sure the steps are taken to make sure this can truly happen. Hell... Who knows? It's probably cheaper for (MTA) to operate the routes themselves rather than give an unnecessarily high upfront cost to a private company.

I'm not sure what the contractual obligations are to be honest, but yes, I agree.  I think that's something we'll watch carefully and see.  Just reminded me... I'm supposed to be speaking with a contact regarding the bus stop and bus shelter situation as well.

Well according to Information their contract expires towards the end of this summer, so it be better off prioritizing this and pushing for it now in order to spark major change, because it be worse off being stuck with a contract and having to go through a long process and bureaucracy would later on become a roadblock.

That is just for Staten Island, not Citywide, but we will be continuing to push further, but yes it's a start.

Yeah, you should push for the SIM23 and SIM24 to be taken over by the (MTA) cuz its unacceptable how these issues spiral out of control, and the line starts dying off.

I used the OMNY reader at 28th street a few days ago for the first time and I have to say that it’s very convenient. I accidentally forgot my debit card at home so being able to pay for the train from my phone really helped. Too bad Queens buses don’t have them yet, but hopefully they are next after Staten Island.

This isn't on a borough by borough approach. This will gradually make it onto the entire Bus Fleet by October 2020 if everything is on schedule.

Kinda depends on the route. While it might not be an inconvenience for S79 riders, S55/56 riders would have only a third of service left. So those people would feel more pain. (IMO, I would only count paying customers as riders, so when the service cuts come around, those lines with high fare beating would have service cut.)

Well in reality for Teens it wouldn't do anything, cuz they wouldn't pay on a regular trip anyway.

TAXPAYERS STEP UP FUNDING FOR PRIVATE STATEN ISLAND BUS LINES LOSING RIDERS

Taxpayers will be boosting subsidies to two private bus lines Staten Island commuters call unreliable — and the agency in charge says a ridership drop due to the MTA’s route redesign is to blame.

Board members of the city’s Economic Development Corp. have approved an additional $804,000 for Academy Bus, the Hoboken, N.J.-headquartered company that supplies service along the routes now called the SIM23 and SIM24, according to the minutes from a May 8 meeting.

The newly approved funding brings to a total of $4.3 million this year’s contract between EDC and Academy, in an arrangement to serve the transit-starved South Shore that’s been in place since 2001. Academy took over in 2014 after a previous company went bankrupt, according to the meeting record.

“The redesign has resulted in a significant loss in revenue for Academy due to lower ridership and fewer revenue miles,” the minutes state.

Riders waiting in Midtown Manhattan for their rides home sounded off about service they call spotty — and say it doesn’t surprise them that ridership is on the downswing.

Jay Reyes, 42, said three scheduled buses had simply not shown when he was waiting for the SIM23 earlier this week on 34th Street. At rush hours, buses are supposed to arrive three to four times an hour.

“I can see why they’re losing riders,” said Reyes, a Tottenville resident. “They’re pretty unreliable.”

Two commuters waiting for the SIM24 — which like the SIM23 reaches Staten Island via the Lincoln Tunnel to New Jersey — complained that unlike MTA buses, the Academy routes lack GPS tracking that can tell riders when the next bus will arrive.

“There’s no way to track buses, so if I miss a bus there’s no way to track it,” said Lisa Angelo, a 31-year-old Huguenot resident. “So there are no updates except for from other riders on Facebook, and you just have to keep checking that.”

Angelo and another commuter both recalled the time that a SIM 24 bus broke down in New Jersey during an evening commute last month.

“They break down a lot,” said Ivan Martinez, 54. “I was on the side of the road on the highway and everyone had to get out and wait for another bus to come.”

EDC is about to renew the Academy contract for one year in September, while preparing to hand over responsibility to the city Department of Transportation next year.

With DOT approval, Academy Bus has made several adjustments to the two routes since New York City Transit’s August 2018 launch of Staten Island’s redesigned bus routes. In Manhattan, they once again run along 34th Street to and from the Lincoln Tunnel, after running into snarls on congested 42 Street.
An MTA spokesperson acknowledged that ridership on the two private bus lines has declined since the redesign launched last August, even as the authority reports that bus ridership rose boroughwide.

“The Staten Island Express Bus Redesign has been a resounding success that has attracted riders to new routes, increased reliability, added more service, and sped up trips, saving a significant amount of time for customers and saving resources that we have reinvested into making the service better,” said Amanda Kwan, an MTA spokesperson.

According to the MTA, ridership on the SIM 23 and 24’s previous iterations, the X23 and X24, was on the decline before the redesign.

“We continue to monitor the network closely and keep an open dialogue with all of our stakeholders to improve service, including discussions with the City on how to improve performance on the SIM23 and SIM24 routes so that those customers can also benefit from the improvements resulting from our network redesign,” said Kwan.

Route ridership numbers, released annually to the MTA board, are not yet publicly available for the period following the launch of the remapped Staten Island lines.

Staten Island was the first of the boroughs to undergo a bus-route redesign at the behest of New York City Transit President Andy Byford, a process rolling ahead in The Bronx and getting underway in Queens.

South Shore Councilmember Joe Borelli told THE CITY that he wants the MTA to take over operations of the two bus lines, which service Annadale and Prince’s Bay on Staten Island.

“I’m more concerned that this is still the last place in the city that doesn’t have actual MTA service,” Borelli told THE CITY, alluding to past MTA takeovers from private companies of numerous routes in the boroughs.

Another effect of the private service, he notes, is that SIM23 and SIM24 riders cannot take advantage of the MTA’s new OMNY contactless fare payment system, which recently rolled out on all other Staten Island buses.

“MTA service has been better than private service, and it’s not going to improve much unless the MTA takes over.”

The (MTA) just has to step up and take over the service. This is something they should've ratted out in August 2018 when they launched the redesign. I either see these routes being cut, or (MTA) taking over them in the future. The lack of Amenities, USB Charging, WIFI, OMNY, Bus Time is something that also affects customers who need to be somewhere, and this should be something everyone should be fighting and petitioning for, of course the (MTA) isn't perfect, but it'll be much better than what is being dealt with now. This is something the (MTA) has to step on to the plate for, and they are right on time. Also another factor of ridership decline besides the unreliability is also the fact that under the redesign there's other alternatives and I would understand the people rushing away from the SIM23/SIM24 for (MTA) based alternatives, because someone wouldn't put it with crappy buses, no tracking information, lack of amenities, and sub-par service. This is something that has to be done, it is still early for change.
