2002 MCI observations:
2817 has been oos since august last year. i have no idea if its scrap or not.
2823 and 2902 were both last in service january, and the same goes for 2926 but the latter came back to service this week.

does anyone here know which specific pairs from the retired listing are in service given about 100-108 are still active? i can only confirm 3818-19 and 3894-95 as i said earlier.

3894-95 reactivated (was apparently spotted on the two days ago). that brings the amount of active R32s up to 84 (for now).

3488-89, 3654-55, 3448-49, 3708-09, and 3672-73 have been running on the a lot for the past few days this week.

That R-32 list looks right for March 3 but with 82 left not 80. Need a minimum of seven 10- or nine 8-car trains (or a combination thereof) to support the operating schedule otherwise you technically get into equipment "shortage" territory, but the R-32s keep getting sidelined as long as they continue to fail, which is constantly. Looks like one pair has been reactivated, could be for that red line.
what is the number of that reactivated pair?

the R46s from Jamaica are on extremely borrowed time. only about 36-40 cars left (meaning about 4.4 to 5 sets) and about three were out on the during the PM rush today. i think by next week (if not, then the following week) is when the 46s will be out of jamaica.
as for the 32s i do somewhat believe that they will retire by the end of the month, though anything can happen because so far swaps between ENY, 207, Conc, and CI to facilitate this retirement have not occurred yet.

honestly there will probably be plenty of R32s on property even after they retire. 3354-55 and 3360-61 will probably get preserved because they were part of the first R32 run consist with 3350-53 which are also saved.
other R32s will also probably be used for work service and could possibly bump some R33WFs on refuse duty to scrap. it kind of makes sense because the 32s have good bodies and are decent shape while the WFs are in bad condition (rust, missing rollsigns, non-stainless steel bodies, etc.)
and while the 32s can't traverse the IRT the 127s will likely go to the A Division to retire the WFs there after the 32s get placed into work service.
anyways some other things i observed when fanning the R32s recently:
3380-81 is still active, saw it on the today. highly recommend catching it since 3381 has an R30 blind end. 3394-97 are all grouped in consecutive order on the same train (other cars in the consist i saw were 3938-39 and 3432-33).

Consist was 3444-3777, 3818-19, another pair i couldn't identify, and 3834-35.

I agree 100% and they should have ordered more than 300 cars to eliminate the car shortage in the B division and to prepare for increase ridership.
yes they should have but if they did they would have had the same type of bugs as the rest of the 179 fleet. not to mention the fact that bombardier was already years late with getting the order delivered.

also FYI. most if not all of the R42s should still be intact (not stripped of any parts) despite being listed as retired. one set ran OOS on the a few days ago.

this post here should further clarify what was stated by the MTA board in regards to the R32 retirement...
thanks and credits to @MHV9218. (original post in random thoughts thread, quoted it in this thread as it has do with various topics we have all been discussing here as of late)
2 hours ago, MHV9218 said:All that's happening in that board clip is that the board member is slightly misreading the chart. The chart says that by 2023, the 32s and 42s will be gone. That should be obvious according to any plan, 179s and 211s together could do that. The board member is saying shouldn't the cars be retired earlier? And the answer to that is again yes, the 42s were always expected to be retired once the 179 fleet had entered consistent service. The remark about 'phased out' is not the same as 'retired.' Going down to 110 R32s is phasing the cars out; as in, phases. That's a phase done for the first quarter of 2020. I'm yet to see evidence that the entire R32 fleet will be retired Q1 2020, and if anything that board material just proves that the MTA's only goal is to have them fully retired by 2023.

even if cuomo did not interfere with the shutdown as others have stated the 42s and half of the 32s would have still been going bye-bye after the shutdown ended (which would have been only a few months from now). if the 32s retire this spring i definitely would not be surprised given the fact that MTA never learns in regards to premature retirements.
so far about 106 R32s remain in service, however that number could change in the coming weeks. there are a bunch of retired 32s sitting at 207 however i do not have any knowledge on how many pairs have been stripped thus far (besides 3878-79).

after doing a bit of intricate looking:
3376-77, 3442-43, 3446-47, 3500-01, 3718-19, 3818-19, 3444-3777, 3628-3669, 3864-65 retired (not shown on the recent TTMG yard roster update).
3610-11 however is still listed as active according to the roster unless that is an error.

Where can you see the retired R42s and R32s now? Are they sitting idle at 207? If so, are they at the scrap area (by 215th) or are they at where the museum trains are layed up (by 207th).
the R42s are mainly scattered across various yards throughout the B division. coney island, pitkin, east new york to name a few.
the retired R32s are at 207. they are stored on the side of the yard facing the river (or also where the museum trains and all active equipment on the is layed up). nothing appears to be sitting at 215. however i did see one retired consist of 32s sitting in pitkin as well a couple weeks ago.

Where is 5286-9? I had heard something about a 4-unit set of R44s surviving the 2013 scrapping but I never saw anything confirming that. Supposedly they were badly flooded in Sandy as well.
On 2/19/2020 at 3:30 PM, Jemorie said:Someone on Wikipedia last night posted that SIR R44 car 399 is currently stored at the Coney Island Yard but has been stripped of parts and out of service.
Can anyone please confirm (pics, vids, etc) if you guys can?
this is indeed correct. 399 is oos and sitting in coney island as well as 5286-9 (recently took a look at the yard). 3786-87 is also there (that pair is also done for, has been oos since 2009 and is stripped too).
although @R68OnBroadway did show a screenshot of google maps i have some pics of the aforementioned cars.
note: no trespassing was involved in these pictures, there is a small public road that runs in front of the yard (took these photos through the fencing).

Any news on car swaps as of late? I've been seeing that R46s & R68/A have been appearing on the more often than not lately...
so far as of this week:
-the is pretty much 100% NTT at this point (very slim chance to catch an R46 on it now)
-the is about half 46s and half 160s
-the as others stated are mostly R46/R68 tho theres still a few R160s that remain
-the 46s and 68s on the will eventually become permanent when more 160s head over to jamaica
other news:
-a few R46s have started reappearing on the , but only about 1-3 sets of R32s on the as of late
-several retired/mothballed R32s sitting in 207, R42s are all retired/OOS

surprised no one here has posted about this recent bs (despite it surfacing on FB recently). some teenage foamers broke into the back cab of an R188, opened the back door and blew the horn. now that the police are after them, they are truly f**ked.
